I apologize for my multiple posts here. I thought I should share some of the things that I have done that has made my EM1 more reliable over the 320,000 miles. 1) I change the oil and filter every 5000 miles, using Royal Purple 5w/30 synthetic, substitute one quart with Lucas Oil Stabilizer, and K&N oil filter. 2) When starting the car for its first startup, I drive away after a minute or so of idling, but I keep the revs under 3500 until the temp gauge reaches normal operating temp. 3) When shifting gears, use a racer technique of rev matching BOTH downshifting as well as upshifting . Also, in stop and go traffic, don’t creep along by slipping the clutch. Instead, let a couple or more car lengths gap in front of you, so can fully let the cultch fully out, then fully in…..these two techniques allow me to easily get over 250,000 out of clutches. 4) I add 6 ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil at every full tank of gas. 5) Every 30,000 miles I replace Spark plugs, fuel filter, and clean my K&N air filter. 6) Cam belt, tensioner, water pump, and valve adjustment every 100,000 miles or every 5 years. Doing the above tasks…my EM1 has never been rebuilt, doesn’t burn any oil between oil changes, and it idles so smooth that passengers often ask me if the engine is even running lol.
No need to apologize sir, your story is inspiring. I have heard of Royal purple and also Purol which I would consider premium oil given the price per quart. I similarly don’t rev up the motor high until the temp is at operating condition. Ever since I’ve gotten my Em1, I haven’t done a serious tune up and much needed refresh on the supporting engine accessories, so I think it’s time for that.
The clutch is about the only thing that I may find myself replacing every so often, given that I’ll abuse it hear and there. I bet your passengers are amazed at how smooth your Em1 runs😂 Nonetheless, TRULY IMPRESSIVE the amount of time, money, and longevity that your FBP Si has endured and with that being said, I’m 100% sure it’ll hit that 500k miles with no problem! Cheers Justin! Phenomenal Em1 🍻
I have a bit over 320,000 miles on my 2000 Civic Si EM1, and I’m the original owner, purchased it brand new in 2000 at Ocean Honda in Santa Cruz, CA. My Si is original flamenco black pearl, and no dents or dings anywhere. I added 17” Volk bronze TE37 wheels, and I have performed all of it’s services and repairs myself (I used to work as a BMW/Porsche/Mercedes technician for 13 years), so my Si has never been touched by another technician.
KUDOS Sir! Not only do you own a gem, but a time capsule, congrats. My respect to you for doing all the maintenance, repairs and keeping it mint condition as I imagine. I’m sure you have enjoyed ripping VTEC through the 17 or along PCH.
@@bwcp I love my EM1. I’m completely attached to it after owning it for the past 24 years. I definitely drove it “the proper way” on California HWY 9, HWY 35, and HWY 17….tires wouldn’t last long back then, lol. I’m also an owner of two Ducatis and one Bimota that I would also hustle down those highways on as well, and there were a number of times when I was in my EM1 where I’d pass sport bikes on those twisty highways, and the sport bikes couldn’t keep up. Of course in a straight line, the sport bikes would leave me in the dust, but if the road is twisty, a properly driven EM1 will hold its own.
My em1 is a clean title and was in a fender bender the first year I had it in 2000. It replaced the hood and front bumper and rad support. I have all matching vins except for those pieces
Huge respect bro how you got your Em1 straight from the dealer🤌🏽🔥 yours is upon one of my favorites out there! Despite the minor mishap (just look at mine 😂) I admire how yours looks😮💨 At the end of day, for us it doesn’t matter since we’ll drive it until the wheels fall off!! #vteckickedinyo
Your sun visors and door panels are off and ek3 ek hatchback. My JDM ek3 hatchback has the same visors and door panels. The seats also match the confetti style pattern along with headliner . Clean em1 love it 😎
AT LAST! Thank you for your knowledge brotha👊 I love those little details, makes the car "pop" a bit more interior wise. If you're here in California and there's a meet cracking, bring the Ek3 sometime, I'd love to see it🔥
Damn brother, you don’t know how much this means🫡 humbled truly. For myself, for the culture, for the homies, for Deadpool Z, I need and will bring that Z back. I kept it for a reason. Sticking to the vision and trusting the process.
Glad you have joined the beginning journey with me here on TH-cam bro, it’s team Honda/Nissan for now and whatever other projects may came down the line. Can’t thank you enough and anyone else that sees this in the future❤️🙏🏽
They’re still out there, just that some people are asking prices that will only bring the right buyer. I’ve seen multiple ones with a variety of specs, mileage, color, modifications etc etc. Finding a clean title one that’s been barely modified and well taken care of for a decent price will be hard.
Yea the ceramic coating is still holding up nicely. Prior to that, like you said, paint correction was done👍🏽 so it’s just leftover compound. Thank you for tuning in man!👊🏽👊🏽
I love this car man. I have a "weekend warrior" which is my 2004 Integra Type S. If it wasn't for so many bad drivers here in Cali, I would drive it more. I tend to take it out very early in the morning while all the shitty drivers are still asleep.
Exactly. Sometimes it’s not about our driving that’s concerning, but the lack of care from other motorists out there, “it’s just a Honda”. Just wait till we roll out with an NSX and watch them say the same thing. Trust, if we’d crap Benjamin’s out of our ass, we’d care a little less to replace and pay for repairs etc, but clearly we don’t.
Thank you my boy!!✊🏽 And yea their crap is stupid bad for paint and tree sap as well! The few times I’ve had some bird crap on the car, I’ll get a soft towel with warm water and clean it off immediately 😂
This vid makes me happy cause I got the black em1 and my car is far from perfect too. Car is at 260k miles my headliner is torn, seat is sagging along with the door panels but imma get it back to oem. Also it’s my daily lol
Every car has its story and journey and that’s the beauty about it. Flawless or full with flaws, these cars are always available for repair. Take it to 500k miles bro! With due time I know you’ll take it to an upholstery shop to get the interior in a solid shape and plus I know you’ll appreciate the before and after status of it. Cheers to your Em1 bro and all the future memories with it👊🏽👊🏽
That rubber tube from the valve cover going to your air intake might be a reason why your losing oil. If your throttle body is all grimey and dirty then oil is getting sucked up into it. Also thr leaking oil pan would only contribute to the loss of oil
Mind you that’s MSRP for one right now too😅 so chances are dealers are asking way over. I have a couple homies that still have theirs from the dealer🔥 they recall paying somewhat near that 16.9k price mark🤩
@@justinsorci5998 @gambit_toys6554 well check that out! Current Price adjustment for the time and Honda still selling them at a consumer friendly price.

That’s awesome man, great car to own I’m glad there is guys like you out there keeping them solid
I love the simple interior stylings of old Hondas. It’s what I missed most about my 02 Accord coupe. That was my first car I ever purchased.
It’s essentially all you need. Sure it’s not the most sporty one or driver or integer for that matter, but it’s not too bland either.
Ohh Man! I bet that car was one of the most loyal commuters in your fleet. Plan on picking up another Honda in the near future?
