So I don’t know how cold it gets where you are, but if you are running water through those hoses as frequently as you say, you can just insulate the pipes with foam if it doesn’t get crazy cold. 45 degrees isn’t a big deal if it’s only 35 out, but 45 is a lot if it’s like 10 out, definitely look into the foam pipe insulation if water is your only worry, it may save you a ton of money on heating. If you just want your animals to be comfy that’s also fine. I wish I had as nice a setup for my animals, we have great grasslands but our barn is old and drafty, we couldn’t heat it if we tried.

It does get very cold here at times I would say on average we have a couple weeks a year that get below freezing… we have tried heated hoses in the past which helps however, we are also preventing the water in the buckets from freezing because we don’t have tank heaters… so even if we insulated the waterlines, we still have to worry about the automatic fill devices and the actual water buckets. It’s much easier for us to heat the barn than heat and each individual bucket.

There's also those water line heating strips. In my area of Australia you might get once every 5 years where buckets freeze with an inch of ice. But I intend to barely heat my hot house with 1 or 2 propane lanterns and a circulation fan just to keep it from getting below freezing because some cacti don't like it.
