    you got yourself a sub. too many "tutorials" are just speed level designs without explaining anything. especially with lighting and post processing. very well done! loved it.
    im doing a challenge where ill try to make a speed level everyday for 30 days to try to get better. will definitely be using the tricks shown here.
    Quick question, do you set a color in your lighting settings or just use the skybox for lighting in the lighting settings menu?

    Amount of talent man! Thank you for this. For environmental design would you prefer unity or unreal?

    • @sketch3436
      @sketch3436  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks, I really appreciate it 😊. If you asked the question about environment design a few years ago I would have said Unreal due to its superior lighting system and graphics in general, however, Unity has really stepped up their game in graphics and with the release of HDPR I wouldn't say Unreal has the advantage anymore. You can create stunning environments in both, so, I would recommend picking an engine off which one feels easier to use in terms of interface etc.
      I haven't used Unreal too much but what I have found is that Unity's asset store tends to have more free assets that are actually good, which is always great for level designs.
      Hope this helps.

      That bug you have sounds very strange, I haven't had anything like that before. However, I assume there is some conflict or missing file somewhere which is causing the terrain system to stop working. I would recommend to reimport all assets by navigating to Assets > Reimport All.
      If the bug still occurs check if it still occurs in a different project if it does it is likely an issue with the core Unity files and you probably need to reinstall Unity. Hope this helps

    • @sketch3436
      @sketch3436  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That does sound strange, you should make sure that all your layers are selected on your light (the layers tell the light what objects it can effect). If that is fine it is likely that the project is broken in some area and you should try to re-import all assets to fix any issues: Assets > Re-import All.
      Hope this helps :)

    Hi, I just created a new project, but there's no green terrain there (like at min 0:28) : how did you set it up? Thanks Matteo

    • @sketch3436
      @sketch3436  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      All you need to do is create a new terrain (GameObject > 3D Object > Terrain), then navigate to the paint texture tab on the terrain and select create new terrain layer, this will bring up a window where you can select a texture, if you place in the grass texture as your first texture it will automatically fill the terrain with that texture. Hope this helps :)

    @xWolfDukex 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    When I try and use the Rocks/Grass in the download given to us, it doesn't show the texture. It just shows an pink color.
    How can I fix this?

    • @sketch3436
      @sketch3436  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A pink texture indicates that a file path is missing. This doesn't necessarily mean that the file is missing but just the reference for the particular thing is. I would check to see if there is a grass texture present, if there is you just have to re-assign it. If not than the file is actually missing and perhaps try to re-download the project again.
      Finally, this could just be something that happens with the new Unity versions, after-all this tutorial was done on one of the 2018 versions.
      Hope this helps :)

      To fix this go to lighting - compression - select uncompressed ( before it should selected to Auto)

    You should've changed your color space to linear and on tonemapper use ACES. You will get nicer results with color grading. Nice tutorial by the way.

    Hi. Can you show how to open the Rocky Hills Environment - Light Pack you gave as here after i import it from the store?
    for some reason i cant open it.

    • @sketch3436
      @sketch3436  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you import from the store it should be automatically added to your project, there are no additional steps to open things etc. To check that it is in your project or not click the import button again from the asset store, if you see blue ticks in the package preview it means those files are not in the project.

    I noticed that you didn't make the objects static for the built in renderer. Is this a better way for the game to run? Or is making all objects static hard on your cpu? Thanks for the video.

    • @sketch3436
      @sketch3436  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Setting objects to static will improve performance, however, if you have static objects the lighting cannot change. I didn't set my objects to static since I didn't want the video to turn into a performance video. Hope this helps :)

    Hey Sketch, I'm trying to follow along in 2019.3 but the procedural sky settings have been completely changed. The unity wiki still includes atmosphere thickness and stuff as features in 2019.3 but my inspector only shows sun tint, sun strength, atmosphere tint, ground, HDR exposure, and render queue. I've extensively messed with all of them but nothing makes it look the way it does here. Help?

    • @sketch3436
      @sketch3436  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just tested it out with 2019.3.7f1 and it seems to be working the same. Are you using standard Unity or HDRP / URP?

    • @Anigmus_
      @Anigmus_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sketch3436 I'm using 2019.3.11f1 (not sure if that's any different I'm pretty new). I'm just using the standard 3D. Interestingly, I downloaded an asset pack that had a procedural skybox as a material, and when I dragged that on to the sky it had all the options like atmosphere thickness, but not the ones I talked about above. I followed your instructions by creating a new material, changing the shader to skybox>procedural, but then I get the same options I was talking about earlier without what you're getting. Also, if I open the shader that gives me the options that you see that came with the asset pack, and then go to change the skybox to procedural again even though it already is procedural, It will change to the procedural skybox I don't want.
      Also my scene is significantly darker than yours.
      Thanks for the help I really appreciate you taking the time. I'm really enjoying this creative process.

    • @sketch3436
      @sketch3436  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Anigmus_ That is strange behaviour. Does it happen in all projects? Reimporting assets usually fixes any strange behaviour with assets, just navigate to Assets > Reimport All.
      Also, if you want to lighten up your scene you can just increase the directional light intensity or increase the post-exposure in post-processing (colour grading).
      Hope this helps :)

  • @jeremiahmcelroy2726

    pro tip, painting with the trees works now! Also the skybox shader is super broken, so what you need to do is go to you lighting settings, change the world the skybox procedural, and then edit that one. It won't let you create new instances at the moment. If anyone finds a fix let me know, but I can't find shit.
