Problem with Americans is that they believe everything. They see aliens, they see god (mormons), they believe tv preachers. Only in America. They believe Trump. How uneducated and uncritical can you be?

Only that the "evidence" is within each "creature", it's called "LIFE". It's not funny how some use their blessed faculties to dismiss the "Provider" of them. In "researching" one need to be "unbiased", it was easy for me, since I started as a 10 y/o child, rather telling was "the forbidden", "the tree of knowledge", in "believing" man's convenient doctrines, the mind don't engage to let the Divine guide towards where "truth" can be found. Let Bill Maher be, we can only respond for ourselves, we learn as we go, hold no grudge nor take prisoners, the laws of "compensation" functions unabated.

What a wonderfully put together presentation. Never thought Bill Maher would be capable of such gentle mockery and genuine compassion. Arguing facts with cult members rarely works. They have established such emotional and psychological connections with their belief systems that it would take more than just the truth to sway them.

You know, this was probably the most compassionate thing I've ever heard Maher say. He realizes we are going to have to live with these people in our everyday lives. We have to bring them back to reality, and he's absolutely right about it.

This cult was started (I’m editing this to fueled) by Fox News in 1996. My parents and my brother fell into it, watching Fox News from morning till night, and no other news. It was sad to watch and even sadder when Trump saw/seized the opportunity to be the cult leader. The cult was already created, ripe for his bullshit. I kept hoping they would see Trump for what he is, but it never happened. His following actually grew. It's the largest cult that ever existed and it terrifies me as to what they will do next. As Bill said, we just have to keep reminding them who they used to be and that there is a whole world out there beyond their television.
Yeah, and we need to start complaining to the other news networks. I only see stories about how Trump is horrible and about the virus. There are other stories out there. By limiting the news to those two subjects we give the naysayers fuel to point fingers and tell their followers that the main news networks are bias. Just look at Fox News' website and you can see all sorts of stories even if half of them is B.S.
I agree however it was the bias of news networks prior to 96' that gave birth to Fox News.
A more balanced media that separates facts from opinion when doing reporting, would not give conservatives the feeling they are being ridiculed and left behind.
Those sentiments were the bed-rock on which Fox News was built.
And Bill Maher himself addressed the fact that while conservatives argue their case in CNN, liberals won't set foot in Fox News.
Isn't this the truth? Fox News should be treated like "enemy combatants " and carpet bombed into oblivian. Please everyone take one hour to watch "Outfoxed".Although funny in some respects, their ex- employees laid out the strategy for all to see.
Fox(Faux) News isn't to blame for the beginning of the BS that we have inherited. That all started with "The Moral Majority" bullshit in the 1980's when they started threatening even good political leaders, brow-beating elected officials and brainwashing people into sheeple with it's damn commitment to constituency contacts. I was telling people years ago, that this had all the hallmarks of a cult. I realised this when I saw grown men crying when they met Trump. I’ve met celebrities and felt strange emotions they didn’t really deserve. I’ve been pleased, attracted, and indifferent. But I’ve never worshipped a human, or their ideas.

My adult daughter and some of my friends are Qanon. It's a tough nut to crack - to try to get them to see reason. Luckily for me, an elder guy, I'm content being home alone most of the time. Sometimes days without seeing or speaking to anyone, but have adjusted quite well, thanks.

As someone who has been duped into cult membership, I can say that the method Maher is describing is effective. The more people criticized me or the cult, the more strongly I clung to the cult. However, when people showed compassion and through their good examples revealed to me that people outside the culture weren't lost or misguided but rather normal and even good people, it started to break down my conditioning. I would add one thing, leaving a cult is a long process. Indoctrination doesn't go away after a few acts of kindness. It takes lot of time, so be patient. I've been cult-free for almost 7 years now, and I still see the Indoctrination rear it's ugly head and I'm still working on reclaiming the person I was who they tried to destroy. Compassion really is the answer in most situations.

Trump could've given us Medicare For All and Universal Basic Income and his supporters are fervent enough to trust Trump on these policies which would've benefitted everyone. @@traekas7228 Hmm...I don't think anyone watching Bill's shows needs to be persuaded to watch Carlin. I'd check Carlin to be the greatest comedian of all time in any survey anytime anywhere. That is not to say Bill isn't great though. Although even Bill said he was inspired by Carlin at young age, he is not exactly the same as Carlin. It is also easier to make mistakes when Bill had to run live shows every week, comparing to Carlin's extremely well-prepared materials for stand ups.

Can't really make the comparison Bill is a standup comic but more because he likes it not because he's incredible at it. His skill is in political commentary and making that commentary regardless of partisan considerations. Also in bringing guests together from very different backgrounds and allowing discourse without the silly limitations of cable news.
