Well, Ms P, this standby horror was YOUR recurrent training in NEVER being sure of getting on a flight, even on Wednesday, statistically the slowest day. As for weight and balance, maybe it was cargo, since it is definitely possible to go with a full load of pax - unless the weather conditions of heat and humidity could have been bad enough to affect the lift with a full load. I have flown on legs with Singapore where they would move groups of us aft for balance during takeoff. And afterward, we could go back to assigned seats. This was on a Narita to SIN leg and a 747-400. But the aircraft had already flown a leg to NRT from LAX full pax load. Probably they loaded extra cargo at NRT. But heat and humidity do reduce lift, and I know of situations out of Houston where at certain times of year, certain numbers of seats just would not be sold because of the probabilities of having lift problems during takeoff. Girl, take an overnight bag next time to ATL😀😀❤️❤️ Herman

I still mask for the reasons you mention. I did standby once not by choice. Never again.
