    So what do y'all think - does my specialty match my personality? If not, what specialty do you think I fit with best!?
    If you're applying to residency in the US, I hope this helps - I know it's all so confusing. But you can do it, and I'm rooting for every single one of you!

    Hi Madalyn!
    I just discovered your channel 3 hours ago, and I already binge watched your 15 first vlogs 😭😭😭
    You’re a gorgeous and inspiring woman! I’m really happy I found such an interesting med vlogger!
    I’m not into med, I’m a fifth year food engineer, but f*ck I’m sure I’m gonna regret not trying out med school... here in France the system is pretty different (undergrad, med school, res) and I feel like it’s a lot less exciting than the one in the US! So I really love following your journey through residency!
    Thank you for doing what you do! 💃🏻

      This is only if they match into an advanced program while they're doing their intern year, because they'd have to wait a year before starting their advanced program. @@DrMadalyn I mean...not really. IMGs (international medical graduates) have a few more hoops to jump through. Applying and matching is much harder. They generally will not match into big academic centers (with few exceptions), and have a much harder time matching in competitive specialties...like derm.
      Great channel! But the process is significantly different for IMGs. Ive got too many IMG friends and relatives not to comment.

    • @Sexdewana
      @Sexdewana 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ympro2b I’m an img and the PROCESS is the exact same. We take the same USMLE board exams. The only difference now may be with CS being canceled due to Covid, many imgs have to take an alternate route. Otherwise we still complete an eras application and interviews and use The Nrmp match system. Of course it’s harder for an IMG but if you work hard and have decent board scores you should be ok as an IMG.

      @@Sexdewana obviously the exams are the same. But how you prepare for the exams, where you take the exams (more IMGs take it in Houston), shadowing, clinical exposure, research, letters of recommendation, visas all very different. Great video, but the comment about four years of medical school not being enough to practice as a physician really rubbed me the wrong way... You have PA's and NP's with only a couple years of specialized schooling - many programs are fully online as well - and very few, if any, standardized exams, running around playing doctor right after graduation (with MD/DO supervision if the patients are lucky). Yet, four universally rigorous years of medical school with multiple STEP exams are somehow not enough? No one else in the healthcare team gets this much formal medical training as physicians, plain and simple. Please do not downplay the knowledge and expertise of your fellow physicians

      Hey I think she was referring to the fact that medical school graduates still have a lot to learn in residency. Book learning and rotations are way different from being a resident with your own patients and having the ability to make serious decisions for your patients. Lots of physicians say they don’t really know how to be a doctor come residency. I don’t think she meant to offend you in any way Dizzy Lizzy.
