I've visited the Ripley's in Atlantic City, Believe It Or Not! The story behind the picture, located behind the curtain, where you pushed a button, and the face changed, is as such: A King pledged to marry the woman based solely on the painting. When she arrived she looked nothing like the painting. The King had the painter of the picture executed.
FrankieBabesNYC To be more exact it was King Henry VIII of England and the woman was Anne of Cleves. Henry had his advisor Thomas Cromwell executed for treason and there's a theory that this treason was organising Henry's marriage to Anne. I've never heard of him executing the portrait painter but it wouldn't surprise me :)
@@lollberry987 yeah thought that was henry I remember watching some doco about his life and many wives and mistress's and remember the one about Anne of cleaves he was totally furious when she turned up and she was in his mind "an ugly beast" not the beautiful princess in the picture .....wasnt he the one he tried to call off the wedding but he was bound to her to marry ......? he was enraged I remember
I live in Jersey and have been in that ripley's so many times. They had a Marilyn Monroe exhibit once that was awesome. But you should try and go to the Jersey Devil museum, smithville park underground museum and some of the other creepy yet cool museums we have here in the state.
Theres a castle in NJ where they claim if you drive around it in your car three times backwards you'll see the jersey devil. Everyone in Jersey grew up terrified of that tale lol
Great Job!! I have been in that Ripley's many years ago, looks like a lot has changed. If you ever make it back to AC at the end of the boardwalk, just past Taj Mahal there is a free museum on the history of Atlantic city and across from that a changing art gallery. Also free. Last time I was there they had a nice History of Jackie Robinson. Pretty cool. Be safe in your travels.
I used to go there every year! lived 2 hours from there. SUCH A NICE PLACE. I highly recommend seeing Atlantic City!! lol I dropped acid in that museum once
The gallery of people who had weird accidents feels way more in line with "believe it or not!" than painted crickets and portraits made of barbecue sauce.
If you go to lake atsion in shamong, New Jersey, you'll find an old Victorian(ish) house with a dirt road next to it. If you follow that dirt road, it take you all around the deep pine barrens, and there are a bunch of cool ruins back there if you know where to look
The real pine Barrens are so thick.....there are parts of it where man just can't go.... It's where the panthers and mountain lions hide....imagine walls of sticker bushes and sandy mud....it's no joke I've been lost on the edge of it before. ..helpless feeling, the only way I made it out was the suns position which I could barely see
You may like the reruns of the Discovery Channel's "Mystery Hunters" from Canada. They cover a lot of oddities.Stories comparable to RIPLEY'S. Made in the 90's.
Just curious how long has that ripleys been there ? I went to AC in 2002 (Im from New Zealand and that was my OE to NYC for a couple of weeks) -- and AC seemed smaller then didnt have a ripleys :( i remmeber the boardwalk and the casinos etc and some of the buildings unless its grown alot since then or I missed half of it ?
Depending on who you ask the story of the Leeds devil/jersey devil changes so say the child was born with the head and the legs of a house the body of a dragon others say it transformed into it
they have those in every ripleys Ive even been to one in australia many many years ago (Im from new zealand) and they had the disorientation walkway / 2 headed calf / 6 legged pig etc and the worlds tallest man I remmeber I was like 5'2 then and had a look of terror on my face standing next to him for a pic .. Mind u my sister knew I had a fear of wax dummies and kept jumping out at me :'( I was 21 :O
I’m so glad I got to go here before covid. As someone from New Jersey it’s cool to see other people recognize my state
I really like watching your Ripley's vids. I have never been to one and it makes my day to see it through your lens. Thank you!
You should check out the Jersey devil homestead, it's a museum.

That room with all the impaled bodies was absolutely traumatizing as a kid

A rail isn't an ostrich. It's a small bird. Almost duck like.
You should go to San Francisco ripleys
Night at the museum: Ripleys edition
Do you know how to make a shrunken head
Don't know why, but that host reminds me of Robert California from "The Office"
Jersey devil is basically the chupacabra
What’s the most unique item you’ve seen at a Ripley’s museum?
A serial killers head cut in two
Woah!
