As a former metal worker.... This was actually horrifying to watch. Watching a baby seal getting clubbed is probably less horrifying.

Using a worn 3 jaw chuck is a recipe for certain run-out. Nor did he use a DTI to test for axial alignment. Misalignment would cause an increase in torsional vibration and risk crankshaft failure. The flywheel would also need re-balancing.

In many parts of the world people don't seem to have the resources to use a new replacement part. In countries without mandatory technical inspection and testing of vehicles, such repair methods are probably a cost-effective repair option. This is also possible in many states in the USA, for example. Western standards are comparatively high, but also very expensive. It is helpful for traffic safety. In Germany there is no general speed limit on the motorways. At 160km/h and more, a vehicle must be in perfect condition otherwise it can quickly become dangerous.

Ok Apu, here's the flywheel, you see it broke off for some reason.
Yeah, material quality was not a problem...
Like I said - no reason. And don't mind the huge crack across it, just fix the center.

@@hasturm1232 Yeah, but all that does it turn a repairable vehicle into a less repairable one. Instead of needing a flywheel, it needs flywheel AND crankshaft/block.

The flywheel is a non-breakable part, but the broken part is special,
and it seems more economical to replace it with a new part than to repair it by welding.

Wonder how bad that flywheel vibrates, from lack of balancing. But then again he is a machinist, and clearly lacks any specialized flywheel balancing machine as that’s another shops job. But I imagine the conversation to sound much like this: Hey Punjab! Hey Naser! Feel like fixing a flywheel Naser? Sure Punjab! As you keep me in lots of work, so I do not have to work over at the call center scamming filthy American’s out of their money as a fake IBM service tech! Punjab: Yeah Naser. I do not care for that either, as selling reconditioned automotive parts that are faulty pays better, I just hope the truck this goes into does not hit me when it breaks again.

Seeing that you are re-posting the exact same video under multiple names.
Just another "click Bait" headline as this "Flywheel never broke on an engine.
The actual flywheel itself was scrap given the huge crack across the clutch face.
The "Break" was deliberately done using a press, as is clear to see from the actual "break".
Now they will show you a pseudo repair and all the mugs will post positive comments about how wonderful they are.
Look closely. He is facing off the screwed / glued in steel insert. when facing off this insert the cut is only at the bottom of 1 bolt hole but is 1/2 way across other bolt holes.
These bolt holes have not been drilled in their correct position.
he is facing off the steel insert and you can clearly see that the centre boor of this insert is not concentric to the flywheel.
there is the lovely sound of the cast iron cracking as the "Weld" cools down.
you can easily see that only part of the flywheel face has been ground clearly showing how out of alignment the flywheel is.
As initially stated this is yet another bodged "Repair" that will never be fitted to any engine.
This video is the text book example of how never to repair a cast iron flywheel.
