Unfortunately, Eva passed away from cancer at the age of 33. Gone way too soon. I would highly recommend "Fields of Gold," "Autumn Leaves" and "Danny Boy." Such a beautiful and emotional voice!
Eva (Eee-va) îs one of my favorite vocalist/guitarist. This is the best rendition of this song I've ever heard. Some other great songs that she did are: Autumn Leaves; Fields of Gold; Time After Time; Oh Danny Boy; What A Wonderful World and many others. Her entire performance at this venue is so awesome. It's sad that she died at such a young age and how she never knew how much the world would come to absolutely love her music.
One cannot call the songs Eva did as covers, because she did her own interpretation into how she wanted them to sound, thereby making brand new songs out of them. Eva was battling a cold the night this performance was recorded, but you couldn't tell by the way she sang. Check out Fields of Gold, Danny Boy, Songbird, or any of the many other masterpieces Eva painted with her angelic voice. As long as we listen to her music, she will live on.
That was such a beautiful rendition of this song. So sad that she is no longer with us. She died at only 33 years of age. I also love the version by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Sadly he also died young at 38 years of age. At least we have their music left as a legacy.
There was such "patience" in how she sang... This performance has so much more emotional meaning when you watch it knowing she died from cancer shortly after... Thanks for the great reaction
Tragically she was gone within a year of this. Those of us in the DC area were lucky to know of her and be graced with her music. But outside of here she wasn’t known. She had a record deal but they couldn’t really categorize her because she refused to be pigeonholed. Sadly, she wasn’t really “discovered” until after her death when a British DJ played her rendition of this song and it charted. I think there have been 4 or 5 posthumous albums released now.
Thank you for your amazing content.. I absolutely love Eva Cassidy. Her covers are always awesome as she sounds angelic and makes them her own. I love her cover of Cyndi Lauper"s TIme after TIme
If you 'd like to hear the range in "types" of music this sweet angel left us. Try to find her belting out "Blues In The Night". She was will always be in my heart .She wasn't feeling well at all here either. She had Malignant Melanoma and passed way too soon.
She was a generational talent who died at 33 in 1996 from myeloma cancer before she was widely known. She does have a few albums on TH-cam to check out. She sang blues, jazz, folk, pop, country, and classics. Check out Tall Trees In Georgia. Stormy Monday, Autumn Leaves, Fields Of Gold, Bridge Over Troubled Water, just to name a few. I hope she is resting in the sweetest of peace. She gave, and still gives, such enjoyment to this world.
She was such an amazing singer. She did her own version of so many well known songs that often now other singers do her version. She did a cover of Sting’s Fields of Gold that Sting said he loved. You should def check out her take on Fields of Gold. Also Autumn Leaves, Songbird, I Know You By Heart, People Get Ready, Wayfaring Stranger, Time Is healer, Wade in the Water. Once you know her music, you will start noticing it all around you. None of her music got noticed much by the general public until after her death. Her voice is one that will endure long after many of today’s stars have long been forgotten.
Eva is probably best known for her exquisite, emotional, ballads. And justifiably so -- I think those are what make us lover her. Below, other people have listed many of those (Autumn Leaves, Stormy Monday, Fields of Gold, etc). And I agree that they are must-listen perfomrances. But her musical mastery extende to many styles styles of music. I'll mention just a few more songs to give you an idea of here artistic range. Oh, Had I a Golden Thread, Blues in the night, Chain of Fools, Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
I've lobbied online for Eva Cassidy to receive multiple awards: a Grammy for (Over the Rainbow, Fields of Gold, Songbird & several others), a CMA Award for (Tennessee Waltz), Jazz or Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for (San Francisco Bay Blues), or a Dove Award for (How Can I Keep From Singing). Something, my God, but apparently the clueless music industry does not know who she is, or either is still trying to categorize Eva Cassidy. It seems simple enough to me for them (music award powers-that-be) to create a "Multi-Genre Artist Award" and let Eva be the first to receive it posthumously. All of today's greatest singers know Eva is the Holy Grail of Vocalist. Even Adele said she used to rush home from school to listen to Eva Cassidy. It's time, people!!!
Eva Cassidy was so incredible what a voice and talent. It was such a tragedy and loss to the world when she died of cancer at only 33 years old in 1996, but her music will forever live on. Some other Eva Cassidy recommendations are Danny Boy, Time After Time, Fields Of Gold, Autumn Leaves, What A Wonderful World, Songbird. Thank you for your reaction.
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 My favorite Eva Cassidy Song is 🎶Oh, had I a golden thread 🎵 Only audio version because she dies too young at age of 33 from skin cancer 🙏 R I P You gonna adore this song too Keep the good work my friend ✌️ 👍🏻 👏
Eva had an angelic and passionate soul. Her voice cannot be reproduced by anyone. She is one of my two favorite female vocalists, the other being Angelina Jordan. Both of these artists had their versions of Fields of Gold published within the past couple of years. There is a mashup virtual duet of both Angelina and Eva singing Fields of Gold together and it is haunting but stunning. Highly worth a look!
One of the very best... To hear the pipes go haywire, listen to "Golden Thread" and "How Can I keep From Singing". She's got about four octaves without falsetto, and it's pure power, when she wants it to be. The soft ones are a different kind of power. As you noticed.
Just before the turn of the century, I was looking for other performances of "Over the Rainbow" to compare with Judy Garland's performance in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). This led to the Eva Cassidy webpage and, eventually, to the iconic "Live at Blues Alley" (1996) music CD. I "went down the rabbit hole," searching for more Blix Street records. The trail ended with "Somewhere" (2008), with a song written by this first class song interpreter. I will have to consider the expanded "Live at Blues Alley" (2022) that is as mandatory for Eva Cassidy fans as "The 50th Anniversary Collection" (1992) is for Jim Croce fans. Blue Note had signed Eva Cassidy but the A&R department couldn't figure what to do with her. (Eva Cassidy: "I don't do that Pop crap!") Saddled with a Jazz band(!), things didn't work out. Lesson learned, when Norah Jones came along, Blue Note "let her do what she wanted" and their relationship has been successful.
This was recorded on the second night of two performances by Eva and the band, they hired a recording engineer to do a live album so they could get something on record and only had funds to record the two nights. The first night was unusable because of a technical glitch, so all of the album had to come from the single take...............and she nailed it.
SOME PEOPLE REALLY THINK THEY KNOW THIS SONG, BUT IF YOU REALLY LISTEN TO THE WORDS THEY ARE SIMPLY A LIFES SONG. MY HUSBAND WAS SHOCKED WHEN I SAID I WANTED THIS PLAYED AT MY SEND OF WHEN I PASS. BLESS THIS YOUNG LADY AND MAY HER VOICE STILL BE HEARD. SHE IS A BLESSING ❤❤❤.
Who wants to hear the same song sung over and over again the same way ? This song is 84 years old, and has been covered hundreds of times. Yes, this is an iconic song, but this is an iconic cover - and is the best. Those who don't want singers to put their own spin on a song are pretty narrow in their thinking - and probably don't listen to very much music.
In life, she was never famous. After her death, a radio station in England played this and the telephone lines blew up with people wanting to know her name, nationality etc. The angelic looking girl with the voice of an angel had already flown home. She and Karen Carpenter are probably singing duets. I can only hope to make it there someday to hear that. Elvis would stop to listen as they sang and no doubt they would stop to hear them.
No way is she in the same class of singing professionals as Judy Garland. She does have a great voice. I am disappointed she didn't sing it better. I can't stand it when people put in their own touches in iconic songs like this one. The only other person I've heard sing this song perfectly was Carrie Underwood when Hollywood paid tribute to several songs from iconic movies. Usher did a great job singing the title song from the movie "Singing In The Rain". His dancing & singing was as good as Gene Kelly's in the original movie.
Unfortunately, Eva passed away from cancer at the age of 33. Gone way too soon. I would highly recommend "Fields of Gold," "Autumn Leaves" and "Danny Boy." Such a beautiful and emotional voice!
I second those choices🎶❣️
Great suggestions 🙂
Great selections. I would also add "O Had I a Golden Thread."
Everything she recorded is great, but Fields of Gold is top of my list!
ditto

One of my favorite vocalists of all times. Tragic such a talent was taken so soon.

Her vocal beauty is right up there with Karen Carpenter and Linda Ronstadt.
Plus Barbra, Lara Fabian, …
Saw your video and went ahead and clicked "Like" before even watching... just because it was Eva. Thank you.
Her version of Danny Boy is life changing!!!
Rip my beautiful lady, fly honey. You'll forever be in our souls
You'll be glad you discovered her. In addition to the songs already recommended, her Stormy Monday is a must.

Yes and all of these were ranked #1 in the UK charts, an achievement apparently only completed before by The Beatles.
Please, please go down the Eva Cassidy rabbit hole. Everything that she did was amazing...and mostly live. Won't disappoint
R.I.P Eva, taken too soon, you have to listen to her version of "danny boy" exquisite..
Thank you for your amazing content.. I absolutely love Eva Cassidy. Her covers are always awesome as she sounds angelic and makes them her own. I love her cover of Cyndi Lauper"s TIme after TIme
BTW it is EEEEEVA lol

Autumn Leaves and Fields of Gold
Her cover if the Willie Nelson song BLUE EYES CRYING IN THE RAIN will knock your socks off. Guaranteed. Enjoy

R.I.P. Eva :( Gone to soon. Please react to her version of Autum Leaves...she did it the same night as this one.

Autumn Leaves! Another blessing to you.
I love Eva! My favorite song from her is You Take My Breath Away.
Mine too!!!
She was magical.
“Stormy Monday” or “Autumn Leaves”.
Meant to be an angel, all along.

check out her version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water", her vocal dynamics are amazing
Check out the Temptations "Papa was a Rolling Stone."
The 7 minute 12 seconds version.
RIP Eva, tragic to lose her so soon 💔🇬🇧
She died at the age of 33 what a beautiful voice
Please React to her live performance of Stormy Monday, just out of this world!!
WOW!! That was beautiful 🤗
Eva’s song for EVER🥹❤️
♥♥♥♥♥
you need to listen to her "Imagine"-version. Lennon wrote the song for her - only for her.
Fields of Gold, Autumn Leaves ... she can do no wrong !
Eva Cassidy does one of the best covers of "Chain Of Fools" By Aretha Franklin ! Thanks Nice Reaction =)

Autumn Leaves next please
Songbird is one of my favorite albums. She was incredible. Check out Wade in the Water. The whole album really. Hard to pick a favorite.
Wade in the water…next please.
Next up, check her rendition of Sting's "Fields of Gold". Another awesome cover.
Transcendent. Consummate.

Eeva
Listen to her version of wade in the water. It's very nice
Check out time after time from her
This song is from the Wizard of Oz..
I just discovered here music and feel sad and angry that she died so young. F cancer.
EEva. If it were "Ava" it would be spelled "Ava".
Please react to her song “Nightbird”. It is incredible and no one does reactions to it.
She died 9 months after singing this .....from cancer
PLEASE listen to Fields of Gold.
Check out, blues in the night, you won’t be disappointed. Total opposite from this caressing voice.
It's E-va not A-va...

Too many changes in the original melody and none of them for the better.
You talk too much. This is one of the most beautiful versions
