I'm glad they're remastering it. Some of the scenes were clearly drawn by another studio and most of the characters between the post-Eurasia/pre-space battle scenes were off-model and it bothered the hell out me because I was not expecting this movie to be plagued by the same animation problems the series faced.
Lacus next to Ingrid in the original looked better too. It's one of the rare times, we see her angry. Yet, Fukuda is trying to pass her off as a saint who emphasis with even her kidnapper in the special edition.

It's pretty common in the anime industry to go back and touch up scenes for the BluRay after the theatrical or broadcast version. The animation is done on a pretty tight schedule for the initial release, usually being developed along side multiple projects, so the quality standard for theatrical/ broadcast is a bit lower since it prioritizes the release deadline. It's less about taste or quality control and more of a different industry standards compared to Western film studios.
Second video I've seen from this channel. Constantly switching which side is "original" makes it unclear if you've made a mistake or not. And your idea about the MSF particles being reduced to show a struggle is quite off base. The energy used for the disruptor and the electric field comes from the attacks it blocks, the particles. The particles arent produced by energy, they produce energy.
The special edition’s so called “cuter” redraw looks worse. The original looked better in many cases. Especially for women. The special all look like dolls not people.
It's still different to me compared to the wokes we see the hollywood. It's just giving off the vibes of Nazi idealogy due to ties to superioty based on genetics
