How To Change Cabin Air Filter - 2015+ Subaru WRX & STI

  • The cabin air filter on your Subaru STi gets dirty quick- I'd recommend changing it once a year, or around every 10,000 miles. Keeping it clean will reduce musty smells from your cars A/C and heat as well as keep dust to a minimum inside your car.
    Here is the link to the cabin air filter I used: www.amazon.com...

    Went to the dealership to get an oil change since i get 4 free a year. They came to me while i was waiting and showed me my cabin air filter which was dirty to be fair, and he says “we can have them change it for you. Its gonna be like 80 bucks” i said no its ok. I went to their parts desk 5 feet away and bought one for 20. Wasnt sure where it was so here i am. You just saved me 60 dollars my friend, thank you

    Simple, straightforward, to the point. This is how all how-to videos should be. Well done! We don’t need 8 minutes of self-promotion or mind numbing, unnecessary verbal clutter.

    Thanks! Went to change my cabin filter this morning, and had a stumped caveman moment at the arm on the right side. All of my prior cars were just pinch-and-drop. Thank goodness I didn't break it!

    First time doing this at 20k miles, I should have done it a bit sooner to say the least. But great video, made it super easy and take 5 mins.

    Great instructions!! Now I’m ready to do the change on my 2020 WRX and the wife’s Crosstrek when it’s time.
    Nice tip using the pliers at the start to move the first part to the right.

    I need to do this myself soon, too haha!! Do people add a small spray of air freshener on their filter or would it be too overpowering?
    Great video man, subscribed :) Keep it up!

      I had a VW before my WRX and that was easy. It was in the passenger side foot well. Nothing to remove or get out of the way. Just take a peek in the top part of the footwell, pull it out, pop new one in. That’s it.

    Thanks, I found this very helpful! I have a 2018 WRX limited, and I find rattles are coming from various interior plastic components. Maybe when I'm in there changing the filter I'll see if anything is loose.
    Does anyone else have issues with their late model WRX and rattles? I will say my 2018 rattles less than the 2017 that I also bought brand new. Really the only disappointing thing about this car so far. Hard to believe I bought two brand new models and both o f them rattle.

    Do you have an Accessport? You should make a video explaining how dangerous and terrible the stock tune on the ECU is. The factory tune tune gets worse every year to make that 15 year old engine meet emissions.

    • @ThatWhiteTesla
      @ThatWhiteTesla  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stock tune isn't smooth and has its issues for sure, but calling it dangerous is a bit overstated.

    • @Pro60modman
      @Pro60modman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ask any tuner, it gets more dangerous every year. Stick a wideband onit
      with the stock tune and floor it. It will stay at 14.7 AFR for almost 3
      seconds. The open-close loop switch is the main problem. The stock tune
      will beat the rod bearings out of the engine because of the lean
      running. COBB and MAP recently made detailed articles about it actually.

    • @ThatWhiteTesla
      @ThatWhiteTesla  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Pro60modman I've released the articles. The stock tune is less than ideal given emission standards among other things. But saying a car manufacturer is sending out cars with "dangerous" tunes is just not accurate. If they were truly dangerous Subaru would address it. They wouldn't want to warranty all the engines exploding if it were truly that bad.

    • @Pro60modman
      @Pro60modman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yet they do. It's a known fact EJ257's beat the rod bearings out of themselves or break ring lands on the stock tune very quickly when driven hard due to the exaggerated lean AFR's thanks to the closed/open loop switch and primary OL table calibration. I've seen it happen over 20 times on stock STI's with less than 20k miles in my local area that were brought to my shop. Take the engines apart and you'll find beat rod bearings and or broken pistons. Look at the stock ROM and you'll see the issue. Plenty of manufacturers have sent out new cars with unsafe tunes. The EJ257 is 13 years old and the bottom end has hardly changed other than a nitrated crankshaft. It's not costing Subaru much money.

    So $25 labor? WTF!
    All along I knew the price but just wanted to check, i got mines at Lithia Subaru for $17!
