onion is a taste maker.. you can do without onion..taste will be a bit different.. add some fenugreek seeds while seasoning.. (1/4 tsp while grinding and 1/4 tsp while seasoning,,)

A little amount of jaggery may be added to enhance the taste. Also, jaggery will remove the negative effects of tamarind.

Puli means TAMARIND in Kerala .
Dear friend take a small quantity of tamarind and gently press it and shape it in the form of lemon sized ball.
same puli we usually used to make Rasam..
