- Demonstrating preferred Master Setting Rings vs Master Setting Fixture and possible errors and remedy also in the video groove with yet another editing program mentioned by a viewer I am off to a great start on errors today calling out .005 as .0005" but a Master Ring Gauge always stays the same.
Thanks Dee Dee I learn a lot from all of your videos
Nobody goes over this on TH-cam. Great to see.
dee de here, old channel malfunction, I will try to load part 2 on Don Dyar @dondyar
Thank you for another great talk you help me a lot
You are so welcome!
NICE SHOW, ALWAYS A GOOD TIME
We would use "Jo-Blocks" along with a Brown&Sharpe set of Jo-Block "accessories"! This B&S kit included a precision base with different length dedicated "clamps" for different length Jo-Block stacks, and a precision "top block", which you wrung onto your Jo-Block stack. This same added accessory block protruded over the top of your uppermost Jo-Block, to establish an accurate clamped "gap" between it and the B&S "base" for accurately setting your bore gage!
This B&S gage block accessories kit also included certain blocks with an accurate top radii on it's top, that you could clamp on the top and bottom of your Jo-Block stack, and use the total calculated added together stack up (including the B&S radius blocks) as a GO/NO GO gage to fit (or NOT) into a finished bore size.
There were also various other B&S gage block accessories in the kit. For example for use as a height gage and or scriber with a selected Jo-Block stack etc.
I think Fowler may still offer a similar kit. Thanks!
There is a real "feel" to using those telescoping gauges. I've had to practice with them to get to the point where I can feel confident using them to measure a job. But once you get it, they can get you pretty close. I definitely have to double and triple check myself when using them though because it's so easy to get a "less than perfect" reading.
dee dee here, I find that when I get a consistent reading, that does not mean it is accurate as may be needed with telescoping auges, thanks!
I always have a hard time setting my bore gage to measure the housing bore for main bearing on engine blocks. You gave me an idea of making ring gages for the mains, and honing them with the sunnen hone to the size called for in the bearing book. Thanks Don
That is what I did for the odd sizes on vintage motorcycle engines, I made the rings out of prehard 4140 and they held up fine saving time. dee dee here from new channel!
Great Stuff Love It.
Interesting to see how to use these guages correctly. Cheers dee dee
Channel had been hacked, posting on Don Dyar Machining for the time being, thanks!
This is dee dee, it appears my channel hhas been hacked, I have a new channel Don Dyar @dondyar, it may not be possible to continue with this channel
