    Drinking from age 16. Went through the lot until age 60.Decided enough was enough. STOPPED. Aged 92 now. Been sober and alcohol free, for 30 very happy years. Best move l ever made.

    I’m 5 days away from being 1 year without alcohol. Here’s one thing that I learned: persistence matters. All those times in the past when you quit for just a day, a week, or a month and then went back to drinking - those failed attempts mattered. You were conditioning yourself for the final separation.

    Sobriety is the best thing you can do for yourself - the clarity gives you an edge over everyone else. The first 3 months were rough but my mental health has improved dramatically since. My highs aren't as high - but my lows certainly aren't as low either.

    Imagine lying in bed: hot sweats, cold sweats, heart racing, all you need is sleep but you can't sleep because if you close your eyes you feel sick, your anxiety is through the roof, your body is crying for water, but every time you take a sip, you vomit so hard, your body aches.... It's 4am, but you need to get up at 7am for work. You're trying not to drink but only a drink will calm the chaos..... And the cycle repeats.

    How I came to stop was my brother died alone. From drinking he drank himself to death. I stopped 6 weeks ago. I was drinking a bottle of wine a night. I could not recognize him. His features were gone. I miss him. His death woke me up. Its so true it's one day at a time. Thanks for your story.

  • @antonkazlouski4307

    I've stopped consumption of any substances 3 weeks ago. The last year I was using pot a lot, before that I was drinking 3-4 times a week. Not necessarily heavily, but at least 1l of beer. Actually, I thought pot might help to relief stress and anxiety. Which is true in a short term. But in a long run it just as bad as alcohol I would say. What helped me a lot even to get myself into this path is Andrew Huberman's podcast episodes about alcohol and weed effects on body and brain. What I've learned is just there is no safe dosage. It's all poison. And even occasional drug consumption affects body and brain in many bad ways. So, there is no point trying to find a way to incorporate any substances in your life, it will fail until you realise that there is no shortcomings. You will have to face your weakness and work them through. If you ever want to feel normal.

    • @crashedBMW
      @crashedBMW 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Huberman got me on this path too. I'm not committed to anything long term but I'm 67 days sober and counting because of his episode on alcohol. My original goal was 90 days. Now I think I might go for 100 days, maybe more. I don't feel "amazing" like a lot of sober people claim, but I feel like I'm clearing my slate and there just aren't many bad days

    • @chrissiecrossan6125
      @chrissiecrossan6125 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@crashedBMW I think a lot of youtubers exaggerating to gain more views. Also, the effect might depend on how "low" you were. In my case I'm seeing some minor improvements in my health even it have been only 4 weeks now since I stopped. But sleep is still bad, mental issues are still in place. Finally I forced myself to contact a psychiatrist to address those issues. I think it is also related to sobriety as now I have motivation to do things (but not like a huge boost).

      I recommend Stop Drinking Expert, Sober Leon and Habits Unplugged here on TH-cam to everyone. These channels are really good at promoting a shift in mindset around alcohol, going to the root cause which is that we are brainwashed to see alohol as a good thing in our lives.

I would warn you about how vulnerable you are when you leave substance abuse, and churches love to pray in people like that. My relative (who still drinks) got a DUI, joined a UM church in Oakdale Pennsylvania, then targeted me for over 14 years. You should see how aggressive and evil these persons are, as it would take to long to tell you what they did to me.

      We all tell ourselves what we want to hear. "Oh, it's not that much" "At least I'm not blacking out" "I'm in control". Even if you are able to manage your drinking to avoid major consequences, you are still poisoning yourself.
