Love your videos and appreciate you sharing. 👍🏼Just curious why no heat sink on the SSD to help it perform at its maximum capability? May be a dumb question. Just curious…🙂

Hey Dave, thanks very much, I'm happy you enjoy my vids 😀 The NVMe PCIe M.2 Adapter came with two heatsinks which are underneath - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07GDFX3YJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

so where's the part on actually installing the drive?

How did you get the Cisco box to boot from NVME? I can see it as unknown mass storage in the Bios pci settings but not a hdd in the raid config or bootable drive when I hit F6? I’m using a C220 m3 with same hardware you recommended.

Well these override my fan policy and its set to high power as CIMC sees it as a foreign card. Bullshit lol.
Thinking of trying a HHHL pcie ssd but I have no idea what models are supported and wont cause the fans to spin crazy loud.

Have you installed another m.2 in that same adapter, does the server see both?

I have exactly the same qq as the person above, but I have a 240 m4s
Have gone through a bit of settings and some Cisco support forums.
My expansion card is not a boot option in UEFI. Option rom states not loaded.
Have tried with sw raid and without sw raid, but I think sw raid is not picking up the expansion card because there is something else is not enabled or disabled.
Going to go through more bios, but if you could share your experience with booting off of the nvme through your expansion card please share.
P.S.: I am able to install onto it, but not boot off of it.

So I messed with the server more, attempted to just install win10 9n that nvme to see if the system will recognize it after that and within the win installation I got a message that OS CANNOT be installed on my pcie nvme as this may not be supported by the systems hardware. Also the message stated that I may need to enable the controller for that disk.
Now I am thinking I either need to try disabling the raid controller everywhere and try installing then or I wonder if I need to get an expansion card that has a controller on it if that is even a thing and such cards exist.
If you or anyone else have any info to share please do :)

Hey 👋 Yes I had a problem with this as well. I removed all the disks from the server leaving only the nvme m.2 installed. I was then able to install the OS.

Same problem. We bought the same exact card shown in the video. We can install the OS to the nvme, but we cannot get it to be visible in bios as a boot device option. Were you able to accomplish this, and if so, how?

I've been wondering if it is possible to upgrade the bios in the server, but have not looked into it yet

Unfortunately we're on the latest firmware/bios version already on ours, it still won't see the NVMe as a boot option. I'm going to try manually adding the NVMe as a boot device in bios but need to get the proper hardware ID for the OS position first, I'm not holding my breath though. I think we're just going to end up getting a Cisco certified PCI-E raid adapter for it. This has definitely been a frustrating little side project, lol.
