I'm in the States, and new to Sovereigns, so this was very helpful to me, I want to get some older ones. I just got the Coronation Sovereign, and the 1/4 oz Gold Coronation coin, both of them are fantastic !!!
I like the scale with the little pan. I too find some of the coins have a slight difference in weight. But other checks usually clear the coin as genuine. Thanks for the Vid. Take care.
Recently bought a 1910 Edward VII weighing 7.89g from Atkinsons which I am sure was genuine but concerned about the weight they were happy to exchange it for me and sent me a 1907 Edward VII weighing 7.98g😊 good service...
There's a link to the ones I got in the description (I have 2 types, this is the more precise set 50g max in 3 decimal places, the other set is for larger quantities but less precise)
Is there anyway you can improve on the sound? It comes across very soft even though I have turned the volume up to the max and still struggling to hear you clearly, tks.
Hi thanks for the feedback, I can definitely look into it although it sounds fine on the different devices I test on before releasing. What are you listening from please? Is it just this video?
@@SovereignSaurus It is all the video you put out, the sound is just so soft. I am watching your video from my desk top PC with wired earbuds. Tks for looking into it.
7.937g any less is under weight and loses its legal tender status. There’s also a reason why some dealer keep the worn sovereigns dirty and un-conserved as the dirt is keeping the coins above weight.
It would be pretty cool if they would make a Sovereign with Goerge on a T-Rex slaying a dragon 🐉 After all, once you buy up all the Sovereigns they may come to Sovereign Saurus for design suggestions.
The oldest 'modern' sovereign as we know it is 1817 which is on my shopping list but also in 1489 there was a different coin called a sovereign though it was a different size and weight to the current ones. I'm researching for a couple of video ideas about the history of the original sovs 😁

Oh, I also got the 1/4oz Coat of Arms, Wow!
Awesome. A lot of people like the modern designs. I like Young Victoria's and George V the best but sovereigns in general are great

Yes I think combining a few checks together is where the power lies. Many counterfeit coins can be detected by a well trained eye

That's good to know thanks for sharing 👍🏼 Did it look badly worn too?
Where did you get the scales from,? such a good one to have...thanks..

Very many thanks for the reply 😁
Question - Back in Victorian times, was a Sovereign the same as a Pound?
It has a £1 face value which has been the case since 1817. 👌🏽

Nice to see the Sovereigns 🙆♂️, btw it always amazes me that they add the ability to weigh coins with such accuracy back in the day!! J
Yes such a simple device but brilliant the old scales
Some old coins here even have clippings because the tax was paid by clipping off a piece of the coin. A numismatic nightmare. 😆
True. I've not come across a clipped sovereign in the flesh I imagine that there are some around though I guess most get scrapped
Nice videos mate, what camera do you use? :)
It's a Redmi Note camera phone. I'm not too clued up on tech, the camera does the heavy lifting

Great information Dave 👍🏽
Half a gram of dirt to the rescue 🤣
That must be pay dirt🧐

Haha yes that's definitely a bit of me
+/- 1% on all gov minted coins is the standard tolerance
Not heard that stat before thanks
Great video mate 👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed
Sound at my end is great 🙆♂️
Thank you for letting me know. 👍🏼
Your sound is too low...
Thanks for the feedback is it just this video or is it some of the previous too?

1st viewer ❤😊
Hopefully not the last 😁
Hey, I'm just wondering, what year is the oldest sovereign? And do you own one? Cheers :)

Cheers. And ya that would make for a good video!@@SovereignSaurus
Kicked down the road a bit? I know you Brits like soccer but I hope you’re not kicking gold coins. 😝
🤣 Some recent proof coins I've seen people share pictures of you'd ask the question
