As someone who’s normally terrible at sniping and never had fun trying to snipe in any game, Battlefield 1 was an amazingly fun experience when you play with bolt actions. It was just so satisfying!
The first thing I noticed about this game is how incredibly intense it is. It’s got just the right balance of standard fps movement and Hell-Let-Loose esque slowdown to keep you on edge. The battle cries are absolutely phenomenal and really drive home a feeling of adrenaline that other games like the CoD series don’t. My favorite memory was bunkering down as a machine gunner to hold one of the massive turrets on the Italian front and seeing the tremendous metal doors that kept the enemies out just get blasted off the hinges. Some games could just let the door open, but this was a full scale breach and clear, the door even killed a camping teammate as it bent open violently.
When Operations games were close there was really nothing quite like it. Seeing a group of randoms really rally together to take or defend a point at the death and make progress or win the game was fantastic, espeically if you were there leading the charge, reviving people, spawning people in, destorying vehicles whatever... it was stunning! Fine installing it again right now hopefully some of my favourited servers are still up did give it a good replay a year or so ago and it was still fantastic as long as there are active admins banning cheaters and stuff.
This is the only game where I preferred iron sights snipers. The lack of scope glint combined with the satisfaction of hitting snipes with irons made it extremely fun. I think the iron sight Lebel Model 1886 was my most used gun in the game. If it was close range I'd use the Gewehr M. 95. It was good because of the straight-pull bolt, which meant you didn't have to un-ads between shots, and it re-chambered very quickly.
@@campaignslayer I really enjoyed the Martini Henry not only for the one-shots but the sound. Hearing the sound of that gun was like a reward every time I left-clicked. BF1 has the best sound design, atmosphere, and immersion out of any game I’ve ever played.
Sniping was so well done in this game. Having different sweet spots for the different rifles in order to one shot to the chest was such a great addition to the game. On top of the classic marksman bonus that gave you points for how far the target was on a headshot. Truly a missed feature in bf2042
Not only was the sniping great but many of the tools you had contributed, the strength of the pistols in bf1 meant I never felt like I was hamstringing myself if I wanted to be more aggressive. Plus the normal recon gadgets alongside the k bullet made you a real valuable part of the team. Truly an A+ design
Never played the game, I was very surprised with the bayonet charge and how effective it looked, it honestly seems like the best thing you can do is to be a sniper, looks so fun, is going in guns blazing as interesting? from some videos I saw it looked kinda lame compared to this

Bad Company 2 is my favorite for sniping. Everything in that game just felt heavy and had a loud impact noise. On top of it just feeling good to do the animations for cocking the bolt back on any sniper was like the character was trying to rip the bolt off which just added to the sound of the shot; it felt like even the weakest sniper was loading a cannon ball.
Also most of the full auto guns in the game had pretty limited range and accuracy so it made snipers feel much stronger then other bf games, where ARs could reach out further

The sweet spot mechanic is an amazing way to make the game feel more realistic in a gamey way I love it. You get the chance to get one shots making it feel more realistic without making it annoying and overpowered by locking you at certain distances that determine your effectiveness and capability. It's a great satisfying mechanic to play around with and always keeps me switching around sniper rifles and moving from spot to spot trying to get the perfect distance on a conquest zone or against another sniper, I hope to see more of this!
Something I hadn't thought about until this video for some reason, imagine getting like 50 battle/war strategy experts to draw trenches for a map, and then have the game randomly pick different trench setups each match.
Your videos are always so chill and fun to watch. Dont take this the wrong way because it's not intentional but I could fall asleep listening to your gameplay and comms, so chill and fun. Not chaotic and obnoxious like most "youtubers"
I've gotten back into the game a week or so ago and I must say, the graphics, animations, and gameplay are still really good, even for a 6 year old game.

Hearing about BF1s resurgence and seeing your vids reminded me of one ofy favorite moments a few years back playing the game, possibly my favorite of all the battlefield games I've played: So I don't remember the name of the map or what team nation I was on, but me and a handful of other players were by a partially destroyed house and we were pinned down by suppressing fire while hiding behind a log from on top of a near by hill. I was playing assault and was running a shotgun and I think AT gadgets with the huge ass gasser revolver. After a couple minutes of me and this squad peaking to try to take out the group of like 5 on the hill, I lost patience and just charged the enemy position by myself. Hoped into the trench or whatever they were hiding in, unloaded all my shells into the group, killing them all then running back to my buddies to reload. We then ran off on our separate ways. It was my favorite mechanic in that game. There could be SOME validity to this mechanic. Rounds from rifles are designed to expand in the target at certain velocities. It would be plausible that up close the bullets are either expanding too early to penetrate deeply enough at close range and at long range they are going too slow to expand and end up drilling holes without expanding.
you got it partially wrong. 1: too close, the bullet is too fast and just drills a hole and expands only once out on the other side of the body. 2: right range, the bullet expands at impact like it's supposed to. basically acts like a long range shotgun. 3: the bullet hasn't enough velocity to expand anymore so it just drills a hole. acts like a regular bullet from a hand gun. 😉
i would argue the the sweet spot mechanic isnt fictional at all. If you shoot someone with a high caliber weapon at point blank, sure its still going to do serious damage, but it penetrates to quickly to dump all of its energy into the target. whereas, a hollow point at close range will stop in the target and dump all of its potential energy into said target.
Imo- best sniping was in Bad Company 2, on hardcore servers. It was so rewarding hitting targets that are a whole kilometer away. And getting that sweet sweet headshot bonus points. The higher the distance the more points
Realisticaly, this mechanic it's just a plus because most of the time people and including me run around sniping CQB for headshots if not just change to the pistol and finish with one shot, I did this alot with the martini henry, 90% of the time the people won't react in time and will die, and when they do if they don't shotgun or headshot me, the random spray of the bullets mechanic or the 2/3 shot from rifles won't make time and they will die anyway. So for me this mechanic it's just a plus and didn't change the way sniper was used since BF 3 as I remember, I played a little BF2 and I can't confirm and BF1942 I played it alot but bots only, Bad Company 1 didn't played it but Bad Company 2 I played the heck out of it and with the aim assist and quick scope, it was easy land headshots or 1 hit kill in the torso.
My favorte sniper mechanic i have ever seen was on a roblox game lol. On standard issue, snipers where slow and when aiming had a lot of shake, until you held your breath, then your screen would slowly zoom in on your scope, and the shake would slowly go away. It made it feel like you where really lining up a shot, but at the same time you couldn't hold your breath for long so you couldent camp with it. Combined with wind and a good amount of drop, it was challenging but very fun
I love the weapons in this game, i was super into guns as a kid and was reading about all of these guns. Then the game came out, and I was hooked because I knew about them irl. Thanks for the vid
That’s why I sniped, plus another reason is that it was faaar easier then any other game, as you said the spread made it much harder to get suppressed as a sniper, the velocity on the rounds made it super easy to pop heads, and the sweet spot system made it so you didn’t have to even headshot half the time. Truly the easiest sniping has ever been except maybe Bc2.
One thing I truly love about BF1 is the fact that sidearms are powerful and can be used as well as SMG's or shotguns when done properly. I loved playing as scout with an iron sight rifle and I usually used a revolver as a sidearm, which is almost always a 2-shot kill, and that allowed me to push up and take objectives with my team as well as fighting at medium to long range. EDIT: The versatility of melee weapons also help. 1 shot with a revolver followed by one hit with a heavy melee weapon and you have a kill.
I was looking for video with exactly this title, I even thing it had best sniping from all games I played (except sniper games ofc), and while watching this video it doomed on my why, it was cause sniper rifles had visible tracers behind bullets so you could figure out velocity/trajectory quick. Btw hope you still read comments my man
It does make recon very viable, almost overpowered. During the early days I remembered dying a lot to snipers. And the vanilla maps being very open with little cover, people like me who were grinding for other classes just had to accept death. In my opinion, the perfect spot DICE found for recon is BFV. Not too hard like BF4 nor easy like BF1. The bullets were fast but no 1-shot torso kill, I think it is the fairest.
Finally back to fps games after hiatus and decided to bought bf1 because it’s 4 dollars right now, I heard about how good this game is back in the day and after about 40 minutes playing I agree that this game is pretty good. It just that my first experience with this game is ruined thanks to cheaters. About the mechanics, personally I like the sweet spot between realistic and arcady.
The "sweet spot" gets rid of the "ghetto shotgun" of some of the previous games, but at the same time isn't too far out to discourage PTFO. (The added bullet drag mechanic also ensures such by slowing the bullet down drastically over range.) The M1903 Springfield and M1917 Enfield have the furthest out "sweet spot" ending at 150 meters. It takes about 25 seconds to sprint that distance. Meanwhile, it takes about 33-34 seconds to neutralize and capture an enemy objective (enough extra time to regroup). So, the whole idea of Scout is to provide overwatch for your teammates, spotting and/or eliminating enemies, as they advance onto an objective, and then to regroup with them as it's basically cleared. For thiese reasons, sniping in Battlefield 1 is the most well thought-out within franchise history.
Neat feature of the scouts in BF1 is when you start getting a kill streak you character will start counting your number of kills under their breathe in their language.
The sniping in battlefield 1 and battlefield V is some of the best sniping in my opinion, there's just something more rewarding about hitting shots in battlefield compared to something like call of duty
I hate I didn’t play it a lot when it came out first but iv made up for it this last couple weeks, and I gotta say, it’s awesome. No game does the battle score quite like bf1. Just rushing a point with bad ass music playing hits the spot
This mechanic also keep scout player somewhat not too far from the warzone, so there won't be 32 camper sitting at max range and shoot at nothing, which I appreciate a lot. I always run M-Henry or SMLE, trying to be in mid range and it's fun.
Only a couple minutes into the video, but a few things to address. 1. Ever since Bad Company 2, the unique sniping experience that Battlefield offers has been a main driving force behind why the games are popular in the first place. My fellow Refractor-era veterans may like to postulate about how it's the large scale battles and combined arms combat that makes the series popular, but the reality is that the old games had that experience too, but averaged only 2mil sales per game. It wasn't until BC2 removed the render fog (that artificially limited the range of snipers in pre-BC2 games) and introduced bullet drop that everyone started taking notice of the BF franchise and the games started averaging 6-10mil sales per game. The sniping is what put Battlefield on the mainstream map, which in turn makes the people who complain all day about servers being too full of snipers ridiculous imo - the sniping is why 60% of the playerbase even plays the game and just as there are players who are only interested in vehicle gameplay, there are others who are only interested in the sniping. Removing sniper rifles wouldn't force those players to play another role or PTFO, it'll result in them leaving the game entirely and player-numbers dropping off substantially (as we see in every custom server with hard limits on number of snipers; they end up 1/3rd of the way full most of the time) 2. BF1's Sweat Spot mechanic is actually more realistic, not less, than how the other games have handled bolt-action rifles. While it's true that the bullets are moving the fastest when they leave the barrel, and they don't speed up over a certain distance. , at the speeds sniper rifles fire their bullets, a point blank shot would pass through a soft-target dealing minimal damage - it's not until it starts losing speed and tumbling through the air that a bullet has the opportunity to deal the most damage.
personally, i love running the bolt action carbines and using them at mid range. gewehr m.95 is basically just a slow medic primary. also the general liu can be switched to be bolt action if you didn't know
I think the bump in damage is realistic. Up close the round is travelling the fastest so it will pass right through tissue living a small hole which is more likely not to be lethal. As the bullet loses energy, over a larger distance, and slows down, it can stay inside the body transferring all of its energy to the surrounding tissues and causing more damage.
I think this game was someone's dream at EA/DICE. I'm a Refractor era BF player, mainly Vietnam and BF2, the latter had crap sniper mechanics. They had plenty of other issues too. BF3 and 4 were meh at sniping, and the weapon sets were questionable at times, but as a whole BF1 fixed their quirks and I wonder if BF3/4/3.5? was made with similar basis as 1 nowadays how much of a beast those games would be. BF1 was clearly an evolution, limited only by the era it was set in, if a standalone WW2 expansion pack had been developed it would've been light years ahead of 5.
the mosin infantry was the best long range sniper i used in the game, i don't know why but it's irons just work so perfectly for 200-300 meter headshots for me, and anywhere below
From what little gaming experience i have, I can say without a shadow of doubt in my mind. That Battlefield 1 will always be the best battlefield (In my opinion) From the voice lines, the weapons, the maps and above all. How quickly they fixed issues with broken guns and weapons. My only gripes with this game is that the stationary guns (both machine guns and artilery pieces) did not play as big of a role as i would have wanted. This made Assults a main stay on most battles, seeing how they had the vector and a abundant arsenal of Anti tank weapons, that worked just as well agianst people as they did agianst tanks..... But by far my most favorite moments was the intense action you had playing with friends. From the horses with sabers to the giants behemoths that could dominated the whole match if they had the right support.... In the end, all i can say is. Ea dropped the ball not bringing the systems from this game further...P.s.s.....I miss Back To Basic.
Honestly I like the idea for its FPS game realm. In super run & gun types of FPS honestly it wouldn't really be relevant, but with more team focused games like battlefield or rising storm it would certainly keep the realms seperate so that people actually have to play the game & objective instead of just doing a cheytac noobtoob to 420 pwnzor some clowns. Rising storm it wouldn't matter too much because you can get killed easily by anyone. Regardless, for a FPS game focusing on team oriented gameplay it's a great idea to actually have people use their playstyle & find the skill within.
i stopped playing BF when Hardline released. all my 360 friends hopped on it, but i could smell the dumpster fire before anyone else even entertained the flames in their eyes as the approached it. needless to say, they came back for BF4 after a couple of weeks. Hardline was more like, and should have been, DLC. 3 years in between BF4 and BF1, and it was a closed casket. Mind you, my first introduction to BF was BF2142, on a friend's PC because mine was for "rEaDeR rAbBiT..." i did however manage to get BF2 Modern Combat on PS2, but it paled in comparison. i stuck to RPGs, and action based games for a good while, when we finally got a 360, and i just happened to pick up Bad Company 2. best decision i ever made. i made a genuine group of friends that were military vets, and i was some young man, ripe age of 19, had a girlfriend that i'd been with for almost 3 years. they formed a group/clan that evolved and spanned over platforms, where the main formers stuck with the originals, like myself. Bad Company 2 was where i was introduced to "the aggressive sniper," i can't remember the TH-camr, he was so influential to my change of gameplay. if it wasn't for him, i wouldn't have been able to impress and keep these new vet friends around. played, BF3 & BF4 with them. eventually migrated to PC, and tried getting back into BC2, but never realized that the whole time i played it, i was stuck to forward sprinting only, and DICE changed the movement so insignificantly with BF3/BF4, that it was impossible to go back. now it's, Squad, Arma, DayZ, Rust but i haven't picked up a BF game since Hardline. and since seeing 2042's release, it's disappointing to say the least. maybe i'll eventually give BF1 a try. good video as always Drew.
A more realistic way to nerf bolt actions indoor is obviously to make them cycle slower but for a BF/COD like game its just the best solutions i ve seen so far.
You are correct, Its so unfair the servers for battlefield 1 is dead in my country , and playing on 180 ms is just not fun ,i miss playing this game so much
I feel like the sweet spot is slightly realistic. Bullets the slow down and expand and bounce around are more likely to kill, so a bullet the goes straight through does less damage. Still more for gameplay, but there's an explanation
Scout was the worst class in the game and ruined it for everyone else. If there was a lot of scouts in the lobby you were also forced to play scouts. Scout was the only class without bloom so it was guarenteed to hit its shots while other classes just had to get lucky. Maybe just me and my friend's unpopular opinion but i feel like it made all the other classes less fun. It also kinda ruined operations and made conquest the only choice because it was impossible to move down field in OPS.
i like it in CS:GO more. For example with the awp you lose less damage on range but you move slower and preparing your next shot takes a little while. While no-scoping is incredibly inaccurate and based on luck, and scoping on less distance is hard
I think another thing that makes BF1 sniping feel good is the bullet velocities aren't set like nerf dart speeds. I cannot stand modern games when you have to lead shots at like 20-30m by like 20ft in front of whoever you're trying to shoot because the bullets move SO SLOW. Or when someone has enough time at like 100m to see the bullet coming at them and to move out of the way. On top of that the ADS times for scopes aren't all jacked up. Another thing so many modern games do to try and prevent 'quick scoping' but it just ends up making sniping garbage. Oh and last but not least is no scope glint. Nothing ruins sniping worse than taking away the only real advantage a sniper has which is concealment. Man I forgot how much I actually like BF1 sniping.
I still play it daily, there are basically 2 servers in South America, at this point I know every single player I play with, I wouldn't trade it for anything, it's the best triple A shooter ever made

Drew and his friends out here giving callouts in bf like it’s a mil sim
I love the weapons in this game, i was super into guns as a kid and was reading about all of these guns. Then the game came out, and I was hooked because I knew about them irl. Thanks for the vid
i think another reason sniping was so popular in bf1 was because all the other weapons had such crazy random bullet deviation.
Your pronounciation when you were mocking your soldier's voice lines was seriously quite good! 🤣
Hey man, just a quick reminder that I enjoy a lot of your content and keep up the good work! 👍😁
To me that is a solid mechanic that manages to both balance the game and preserve fun.
holy shit thats actually a really good mechanic! Cool too that they bothered to give bolt action sniper rifles ranged damage advantage
becoz of you guys, i am coming back to the game. awesome game!
i miss when this game first came out
Finally back to fps games after hiatus and decided to bought bf1 because it’s 4 dollars right now, I heard about how good this game is back in the day and after about 40 minutes playing I agree that this game is pretty good.
Dude you're not wrong. I always knew that something in BF1 made sniping for so long so satisfying. This was it the whole time.
Watched “All Quiet on the Western Front” and immediately re-downloaded BF1, glad I’m not the only one who gets the itch for it
Neat feature of the scouts in BF1 is when you start getting a kill streak you character will start counting your number of kills under their breathe in their language.
never heard this in BF1
I love the SMLE. Have almost 400 kills with it after using it for a month or two. I prefer the iron sights, hbu
@@naturalbadger5258 Red dot for precision or iron/radium for immersion. Both effective enough even for a average player like me.
That damn headshot ping is the most satisfying sound in all of gaming.
Removing sniper rifles wouldn't force those players to play another role or PTFO, it'll result in them leaving the game entirely and player-numbers dropping off substantially (as we see in every custom server with hard limits on number of snipers; they end up 1/3rd of the way full most of the time)
Yep, as a kid I was lured into the franchise via Firestorm long distance M98B sniping in BF3
personally, i love running the bolt action carbines and using them at mid range. gewehr m.95 is basically just a slow medic primary. also the general liu can be switched to be bolt action if you didn't know
I think the bump in damage is realistic. Up close the round is travelling the fastest so it will pass right through tissue living a small hole which is more likely not to be lethal. As the bullet loses energy, over a larger distance, and slows down, it can stay inside the body transferring all of its energy to the surrounding tissues and causing more damage.
Great mechanic. Anything that promotes more interesting/realistic choices or positioning is a big win
The glory days of the battlefield franchise… sad how it went all the way down the sewers after this masterpiece 😢
I've just bought the game a week ago and this game is so unique in its own way ^^
Battlefield 1 sniping was criticized by BF4 diehard fans that thought sniping and getting killed by an smg at long range was actually a good thing.
Ironsights were always the best for me, I love this content.
the mosin infantry was the best long range sniper i used in the game, i don't know why but it's irons just work so perfectly for 200-300 meter headshots for me, and anywhere below
yeah because snipers are so OP that make anybody look better than thay are 🤣 .. my record is 63 kills in conquest.
Got bf1 during steam autum sales now i have over 50 hour play on this epic game, also it gave me ptsd on the campaign mode lol
Ea dropped the ball not bringing the systems from this game further...P.s.s.....I miss Back To Basic.
ayyy new drew vid
Since you’ve been playing a lot of Stalker recently and enjoy immersive survival games, you should definitely check out Project Zomboid
Sniping sweetspots were definitely NOT a good addition.
I gotta re install this one, been playing only Insurgency lately, wouldn't mind switching it back up
i stopped playing BF when Hardline released.
all my 360 friends hopped on it, but i could smell the dumpster fire before anyone else even entertained the flames in their eyes as the approached it.
needless to say, they came back for BF4 after a couple of weeks.
Still remember when this game came out and I grinded every challenge
I think the best part about getting kills in bf1 is the sound. Sooo satisfying
People don't play bf4 or bf1 on ps4 server often anymore..Guys if there's ps4 players please play!
You are correct,
Its so unfair the servers for battlefield 1 is dead in my country , and playing on 180 ms is just not fun ,i miss playing this game so much
I feel like the sweet spot is slightly realistic.
Very well played!
I love you’re videos and wouldn’t be able to life if you stopped uploading ❤
I can’t believe they didn’t bring this mechanic back it works so well
Didn't know that about bf1.
Probebly part of the reason I still play it all the time.
M25 Gewher on Hardcore server's back in the day was 🔥
I love the Russian trench lever gun, or pretty much any iron sights sniper
BF4 hardcore mode. Threw game balance out of the window, but could kill with chest shot on most snipers at most ranges.
I still play it daily, there are basically 2 servers in South America, at this point I know every single player I play with, I wouldn't trade it for anything, it's the best triple A shooter ever made
