In our 1950’s farm community, we knew everyone by the tractor brands they used.
We were fortunate to have several good dealerships nearby, so you could realistically own anything you wanted. We were Oliver (the other green tractor) and MM folks, but lots of farmers owned Case, AC, IH, JD, Ford, and even Cockshutt.
Later in the ‘60s, we even had a British Leyland dealership nearby. I remember my dad liking them.
Honestly, I believe they were all good tractors if maintained.
I once broke through the pond ice with our MM diesel, sinking her to seat/tank level. Got her pulled out with the Oliver and Minnie started right back up!

in the central valley of California, the ground water can be a little salty, so they plant eucalyptus trees to drink it up , which normally eucalyptus is planted for a wind break, especially along the coast in ventura/Oxnard areas where they grow strawberries.
The greatest compliment I've received from you Texans was at a bar outside of San Antonio was " are you sure you were born in California? you seem more like a Texan "
I thanked them for the kind words
and replied " yes I'm quite sure of where I exiled the womb, and you know what , for easterners, you people are OK in my book "

Lots of good fishing down here if that's something you enjoy. Most of our water runs down from east Texas through our area so we normally only see brackish water really close to the coast. I worked in a tractor dealership. I was just amazed at the amount of "stupidity engineering" that went into the design of these tractors. Case in point, the muffler is at the bottom of an open exhaust stack. It collects rain water and rusts out the base of the muffler. That part is wicked expensive if you can get it. We had a customer to took his out and filled the bottom with concrete. It lasted for years and didn't drive him nuts with exhaust noise in the cab. They use plastic for fuel tanks, plastic for water tanks, plastic for oil tanks and these tractors sit outside in 110 degree days and sub freezing nights. The plastic get brittle. They crack. They are wicked expensive to replace.
