After Nonsuch I haven’t heard anything more from XTC, I know why now. Then I heard this song on the radio in 1999, I was in my car in a mall parking ,lot. I called the radio station and I said “ That’s Andy Partridge, is he still going by XTC, ?” he said yes, and told me the name of the album. I went into the music store and bought it. I listened to this album for like a week straight. I was glad they were back.
“Best” is such a dead end. I do agree the music of AP 1 & 2 is insanely evolved and delightful. But it’s all of a piece with everything else they did. It’s just a frickin’ awesome legacy.
The levels of understated genius in this album beggar belief and that it's as good as 'out of print' only adds to its mystique. The lyrics to 'Knights of Shining Karma' are the modern day equivalent of John Donne. Thanks for uploading.
I was late to discover XTC music but once I heard it that was played on repeat for months as I drew my Art such beautiful worlds their music surrounds me w.
When I told my very hard boiled ex what Andy said this song was about she immediately started crying. It was surprising and I thought telling about her “great” childhood
“During 93/94 I was going through a bad patch in my life and ‘Knights’ came along as a real comfort, a song to salve my worried mind. It was me crying tea tears at the sink, it was me laid awake fretting all night, hands breaking out in sores and blisters. I needed hugging and guarding in a moment of pain, so I tried to do it to myself in song. -Andy
This album makes me think about how The Moody Blues could have evolved moving on from the classic seven. I think I have to go back and buy some of XTC's later albums now.. Awesome stuff
Spotify does not have this song or XTC’s ‘River Of Orchids’ This is why I like TH-cam at least they’re great at having songs like these wtf z wrong w Spotify
It’s up to Andy, and he doesn’t like Spotify. These are the only two XTC records he owns the rights to so for now they stay on TH-cam, which is a real shame

The last albums aren't even particularly well known, but the music is probably the best they ever made. As for the lyrics.... ♥

It has the same feel as Surf's Up.

So does Chalkhills and Children.
So beautiful ❤
This is their best album! Such a fantastic piece of art! I am so glad I own this! Song after song! GENIUS!
The guitar reminds me of "Julia" by the Beatles
He was playing around with Blackbird when this song came to him, so you’re quite close!!
After Donovan taught them how to do travis picking
