Mmmyeah, that bass is CHEWY, and I didn't remember it at all... But then it's been years since I listened to this on CD (my dad's copy), and the old 240p TH-cam uploads really weren't doing it justice.
This song is beyond comprehension. It’s perfect, is simple, it’s complicated, it’s brilliant…I wish I had the musical prowess to explain this pagan perfection
This track builds from a chill groove till it feels like trance. I never heard this record back in 1999, but I'm sure this track would've long been a favorite of mine had I heard.
Incredible song, probably the best on the album, but I must ask since I don't see anyone else bringing it up -- does anyone else hear Bach's Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring in the part where Andy sings, "And for a million years he has been your lover"? I looked it up, and there's at least s striking coincidence!
A beautifully bizarre combination of modern pop music and a mystic, trancey pre-modern history......how fabulously British!!!
Well said. You nailed it 🙂
Absolutely spot on fp
Thank you.
Thank you.
I usually don't do this, but it must be done: THE BASS LINE!

Seriously though!
Influence of Sir Paul McCartney! ❤
XTC songs are divine.
So many great XTC songs. Each is my favorite, I don't know of any other band like that.
oh i know, right? they're the best-there's-ever-been, man~
Same
Rarely do you hear such amazing instrumentation in a song.
For me, it's the beatles, then xtc, then there's a massive gap before anyone else. Both groups of incredible, versatile songsmiths

This might be my favorite XTC song.
Tribal Epic💚
The thing that makes Andy and Colin great are their genuine attachment to their pagan roots!❤
If Champaign was music. Synesthetic Andy!
the anthem that plays when tom bombadil walks into the ring
Beck would kill for this. No offense.

Perfect pop enlightenment.
