  • The term "Gasser" has been around for decades. But recently, the term has been used in reference to any car that isn't an EV or a Diesel. Here's a look at what an average gasser would look like around the mid 1960s. This was my first attempt at a video of this style and format, so it's definitely a little rough.

Well done mate, I personally get annoyed at the whole modern bastardization of the original class by people who sometimes don't even know why they're called Gassers. As for the raising of the front, it was a crude, but somewhat effective way of using weight transfer. The idea was to get weight onto the rear wheels. My dad was a hot rodder and chassis builder from as far back as 1956 , he taught me about the Gassers when I asked him about one in an old rodding magazine when I was a little kid in the 70's. Funny how I could remember all the hot rod, drag racing stuff but not so much with the scholastic stuff. I'm really stoked to see a young bloke like you educating these Sheep. Also, before the Funny Cars and Altereds were some Effing wild creations called " Fuel Coupes ", those guys needed big kahunas to drive them things. For obvious reasons the class didn't stay around for too long, but I wonder if you could show some of those to your viewers, any old hot rod fans would get a kick out of seeing them. Anyway mate, bloody good and well deserved rant. All the best from Australia, I'm about to subscribe, cheers.

I know and you know what a true gasser is. My question is why should it matter if I call a normal everyday driver a gasser it runs on gas ?

Because that's not what the term was made in reference to. It ain't the end of the world that people use it wrong, but I just wanted to give my two cents.

For the same reason you shouldn't call it a Funny Car or an Altered, or a slingshot. It's a drag racing class name, but feel free to use it and be considered a wanker every time a real car person hears you.
