Bought this model of Islander watch after a lot of research, e.g. looking at SKX's, Orient dive watches, etc., and it's just a fun, well-made watch. No misalignment. It's running about +1 s/day fast. Looks classy on the jubilee bracelet, and it's an absolute strap monster, also looking so nice on dark leather, NATO's, elastic, etc. No, I'm not trying to sell or advertise these... :D
I think this horology historic value is pure marketing and can be just BS at some times. I would love an original SKX013 for it's size, but at the prices they go for these days, it's just insane for a budget watch! I'm going for the Islander with better specs. We need to just fall off the cloud where some watch enthusiasts are and come back to reality. Newer versions of the 5KX are very cool too! I would go for one of those as well but no 38 or 40 mm versions! Just not fair! Orient Kamasu is an awesome value! I have that one and it's beautiful and cost me less than an Islander and in my opinion better design. All in all I think Islander watches are a great option for people that want an actual tool watch, not a historic horology timepiece. A good beater watch and also aesthetically pleasing! Good value watches!
They are all great ones that happen for a reason, SKX is economical diver, a kind of Seiko’s submariner, 5KX and Islander are SKX’s evolution, and to me, Kamasu is a kind of Orient’s seamaster 300m. The only two that will potentially become a classic is SKX and Kamasu. SKX design is honest and minimal approach to economical diver solution. Will Kamasu become classic like SKX? I think that is possible, its design has both quality like the SKX. Let’s wait and see.

Is it possible to replace the dial from original skx013? Are they comparable?
I have 2 modded SKX013...my interpretations and I love them .
