for those trying to study kungfu by video,
    Tip 1
note the position the technique starts for both sides.
    Tip 2
build your foundation and practice stepping forward from feet together and from when foot behind another/ stepping or in front of another person's foot.(the practice of stepping is to know your range as well as being able to gain an estimate of the other person's range. In addition to arms.
    Tip 3
Ground yourself and keep your self centered, if you can't do a stepping position standing upwards without falling over, your alignment is probably off, remember you aren't two images/holograms that can overlap into someone else space, you both take space -> keep your balance and any of your alignment is off then start from the core and notice what isn't in line.
    Tip 4
Relax. Practice having someone grab your wrist or arm and relax and releasing your tension, take a few breaths like you just stepped in a shower. This will help you fight against the fight or flight state.
Just a few tips for those starting to practice.
1 MORE TIP, one of the MOST IMPORTANT TIP things you can know is how to get your arm/hand/leg out of someone else's grip. Everything stops when they catch your hand or foot. Knowing how to go out can save your life, if not save the match.

Kung-fu is not my martial art so maybe I can't comment. I like following this because it informs my sense of history, and I like the interesting applications of the movements. eg, i saw posture 1 and immediately thought of an implied move that would be disgusting, played it over and over, until when looking at the thing itself... The first five postures rely on the attacker stepping forward with the right foot and attacking with the right hand, which is about as weak an attack as you can get. Especially aiming head-height. Above the defender's head in some cases. That attack only happens when lunge-punching someone on the ground, or someone is coming in for a big swing. In either case the defender's footwork is wrong? irrelevant? inappropriate? ridiculous? Something like that anyway.
Am sure I'm going to get some hate for saying that, but I stick by 1 - the attack is terrible in a variety of ways. 2 - the defenses only just work under those extremely set-up circumstances. As suggestions for realistic methods of self-defense they look massively irresponsible to me.
    Nice music though.

the first attack? where the old man circles his momentum and spear hands the attackers throat? that can be done just about any angle with both hands. the attacker stepping forward does not matter, he could be just standing also. he steps forward cause his arms are shorter. it can be applied to a hook or uppercut or a kick. I've been studying kung fu for quite some time now and teach in my free time, if you have any more questions I'm happy to help clear things up. an older student at one on the schools I addend said kung fu schools are a revolving door, cause it can be confusing to some and takes a long time to move up in rank. I would say its confusing to most...that's just what I've noticed. peace

Charles Johnson these moves are said to some of first kung fu moves every invented so they going to be a bit archaic but with any arts there is always a deeper understanding as you progress and study the forms

Lian Shou Duan Da is a Northern long-fist form, it is not Shaolin. but the techniques overlap. so i put these for people to just learn the techniques.

Charlse you seem you don't know and real you don't understand what shaolin Kung Fu implies.Find the experts or even me if you are able to meet me ,I shall teach you the real shaolin to understand ,.Believe that shaolin is the MOTHER of the all martial arts in the world.

Kılıç Özgür No it's not! The so called East Indians stake there claim that Kalaripayuttu was the mother of all martial arts, then the so called Romans stake their claim that Pankration is the mother of all martial arts. None of these cultures have no proof at all! But, I can say one thing that Kung Fu change the way how we perceive and express movement in a combatic sense!!!!!
