I only discovered Merle Haggard within the last year. I’m so sorry I did not know him years ago so that I could have attended his concerts. I am 86 years old and come from a country music family. I can tell you that Merle was absolutely the greatest song writer, story teller, singer of the last 50 years! I have never felt this way about a singer!
I have tears in my eyes. God Bless You Merle. Thanks for all the Great Songs. God, Country Music just isn’t the same without all the greats who are gone. RIP.
Sometimes when I am up north at my cabin in the woods I sit on my deck and listen to the wind. It brings back memories of times gone by, friends who have crossed over, good times with old friends so this song really hit me.

Merle Haggard is probably the only other person that has brought that feeling to the forefront.....songs like this and those beautiful words and music.....he had so many, so masterful....a true old soul and a man with a message.....God Bless you always Merle! I'm so sorry for your loss! It has always amazed me how a song can instantly take you to another place in time, open old wounds, or instantly bring someone to mind.
I suppose any memory that can so easily be conjured out of thin air, good or bad, is probably one worth keeping whether to teach us, heal us, remind us of roads we have slready traveled and dont want to go back down, and most importantly, at least for me, it can remind us that even where there is loss, the pain only exists because we were lucky enough to have known something beautiful enough in our lifetime to grieve for it... to me that in itself is an admission that that sort of beauty exists in life. Which is reason enough for me to carry on and seek out new beauty. I suppose I am with the old saying it is better to hurt than feel nothing at all... I wouldn't trade it, loss has taught me how to live, and reminded me how fragile and fleeting people and things we love can be... love with all you have and dont go out with regret...

No question Merle was special. I did not appreciate him as much as I should have when he was alive. I hope others do his works. Not many are the whole package Singer, song writer, and performer.
You were the best of the very best, ol' Merle. Thanks for all the songs you wrote and sang with such soul - you could move someone out or into a mood with a few lines sung with that incredible voice. You will live with us forever.
More talented than most will ever know Claudie, as George Jones once said (The greatest country talent of all time). He had 286 songs that he had wrote but never put out, look for Ben to do some of these songs in the near future. R.I.P Hag!!

Just love this man, wish he was still around. Country singers need to listen to him and learn. Not only did he write great songs but his singing was spot on! ❤❤
Thanks Terry, I really needed this one tonight. What a long, sad day today. I know he was real sick and Ben said he called himself that his b-day would be the day. I can only hope that there is one helluva concert going on somewhere in this vast universe where he is catching up with long lost friends. I am really going to miss you, Hag. You were my country music hero.

Listening to the wind

Thank you Merle Haggard for the many years of great songs, you were a part of many young lives who loved great country music. I did so enjoy your songs, when I was a young married woman, we had music by radio mostly.

Love the way that Merle Haggard sings, and love his voice.
