His remains, and the remains of his wife, infant grandson and his family companion Hélène Demuth were exhumed and reburied in the present plot on 27 Nov 1954. The original tombstone was incorporated into the existing monument. Later, the urn containing the cremated ashes of Marx’s daughter, the writer and union campaigner Eleanor Marx was deposited in this new tomb. In February 2019, the grave of these five individuals was twice attacked by fascists, and very sadly irreparably damaged. The stupidity of fascists knows no bounds.
