While that is true for the £1500 Porsche challenge, the £1500 944 I’m referring to was Clarkson’s choice of car for a £1500 rear-wheel challenge in 2009 (Series 13 I think) - which featured a Morris Marina as the back up car

I'd LOVE to see an ongoing series to see how far you can get. Whether it be upgrade all the way to high end sports cars or vintage classics. That would be amazing!

I have always loved the 944. Now you've got me thinking about shopping in my car... hmmmm... Haven't watched this channel in a while and frankly I forgot how good it is. It's also given me the motivation to do some bits and bobs to my car that needing doing... Cleaning it, being one of them (special treat for sailing through its MOT today).

Probably my favorite 944 I've ever seen is some mad lad took the 5.4 liter M28/50 out of a 928 and stuffed it in and then somehow mated it to a T56 transmission. If I remember right he built that engine a bit above 500 horses. Absolute mad lad. Loved that car.

As much as I love the 944, I was so upset you guys didn't get the Monaro. They're a classic Australian car made and sold in Australia as Holden's but GM sold them as a Vauxhall over there. Holden has been slowly dying since 2013 when they stopped making their cars in Australia and have just died completely closing doors last year. Since then the price of Monaro's have skyrocketed they go for anywhere between $50k and $250k depending on model and condition.
i dont think i coulda brought myself to get rid of the z4, but that 944 is gorgeous. please make more of these, maybe a longer running series with a rule to increase at least 20k in value or something like that. awesome work guys
There was a Torana of this vintage in Australia that was a similar body shape and came with a "tent" You open the hatch and the tent would attach to the hatch and bumper and make your 3 door into a camper! It didn't take off.
Loving this! - Also a tip for a future "Living with a ..." video: Today I saw a slammed early 2000s BMW 5-series estate, which seemed to have 2mm of ground clearence, skipping like a demented puppy over the un-even street outside my place of work, while going south of 40 km/h, having it's wheels at angles that would suggest total suspension failiure and scraping it's underbelly in the ground every 3 seconds. Looked absolutely rediculous - so naturally I want to know how it is to live with a slammed car? Please - I need to know!
Its terrible honestly. Sacrifice anything for "looks". I bought a sports car that was lowered, not even slammed, I got so sick of constantly scraping on speed bumps, driveways, and all that stuff that I raised it back up to factory height. I couldnt fathom driving something completely slammed.
Absolutely disgusting I’ve got a bagged 535 and a lowered bora pd150 absolutely sacrifice any comfort for looks the 535 isn’t too bad when the bags are up but what’s the point in having the bags up lol
Bought a civic type r EP3 a few years ago, mugen everything and on coilovers. I ended up putting the oem shocks back on. Can't mount on a pavement to park so narrow street parking is a no go, you'll scratch the body on the pavement if you're not careful when parking, ride quality is horrific if it's a daily and not a track monster, handling was impeccable and it looked beautiful, at the sacrifice of comfort and convenience.

Financial turmoil forces one to make desperate decisions.. I feel for the poor guy who owned this car before Alex. I wouldnt want to part ways with something that special.
Because that’s all it’s worth. You could spend 30k on a full strip down restoration but it will still only be worth what the market says it’s worth, you would get a bit of of a jump because of the condition but you will never get your money back. Who knows why they sold it, circumstances change, I emigrated last year and had to sell both of my cars, one I intended to keep the rest of my life and the other I’d only bought 9 months earlier. You never know what’s around the corner.
My first car was a 1985 pre 85 1/2 with the old style gauges. I had a mystery overheating issue, changed everything, could run for hours but once stopped would overheat.
That is the best looking 944 I have ever seen. Insanely clean for the age as well. And I agree this is a great series. It should continue, but I think you should keep the 944 and start a new series called (10 Grand and Up.)

You guys really missed out on not getting that Vauxhall Monaro. These (Holden) cars are now fetching (Australia) upwards of $80k now with really good examples getting into the $100k mark & continuing to climb. Great series of vids, the low prices you guys pay for Euro performance cars in the UK is truly astonishing.

I've really enjoyed this series, you might want to continue with it. Although, don't sell the 944, you'll regret it. I've owned a 944 S2 from my 20th to 26th, 6 years later I still regret selling it, especially when seeing you guys get so excited about it!
Should have got the monaro. They are very expensive here in Australia where they were built. You would have had a lot of fun with the v8 and easy to make power. I have a soft spot for the Porsche too.

Buying a 944 10 years ago was the reason I'm so involved with classic cars now. It's also the only car I've ever sold because every other car I either still own, or was scrapped.
This has been a great series, you've got to keep it going. Maybe some tasteful repairs to the interior, full clean and tidy to the paintwork, followed by a tour (Nurburgring?). Then.... trade up again?

Buying a 944 10 years ago was the reason I'm so involved with classic cars now. It's also the only car I've ever sold because every other car I either still own, or was scrapped.
This has been a great series, you've got to keep it going. Maybe some tasteful repairs to the interior, full clean and tidy to the paintwork, followed by a tour (Nurburgring?). Then.... trade up again?
