    At end of a week of work I sat and watched this video and was immersed with the beauty of the environment you shared. In fact I felt same on your previous video last week. Your enthusiasm of being 'at one with nature' is decompressing. Namaste .

    That snack van on the Kylesku Bridge is so good, one of the highlights of the trip.

      I've seen it many times but never bought anything from it. I'll make sure I do the next time I see it. I guess it's only there for the tourist season as I haven't seen it for a while.

    Thank you Dean for taking me to a place l love. We stayed in Kylesku and loved seeing the bridge appearing in the landscape as we drove down to the hotel was stunning in the late March light. Lovely video, thanks again.... Alioban

      Its a great photo location - I think so anyway. Altho' I've had a few people on my workshop not like it all. Which I found strange. Thank you for watching, it is very much appreciated.

    when its a Dog Kennel. Before the Kylesku Bridge was built 1984 ther was a ferry, which was an little adventure; been going to the area since the 1960s so to me the bridge is very new . Some day i should dig out old photos of the ferry .

    Hi Dean, I stumbled across your TH-cam channel about a week ago and have found your videos inspiring: spectacular landscape images, beautiful lighting, clearly explained compositions, interesting perspectives, and breathtaking drone footage. Thank you so much for sharing your photographic knowledge. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos and your enthusiasm. Ed

    Mate just terrifc. I have two weeks in Assyt this April and these videos are gold. I use the 65x24 ratio quite a bit it works a treat for so many landscapes. Well done.

      Hi Wayne….thank you for your comment. I hope you have a great time up here in April and pleased you found the video useful. This "cinematic" crop is certainly an interesting option which I am finding an exciting one to use.

    Cracking images Dean and a timely vlog for me. I tried to book your workshop but it was full so I’ve booked a hotel in Ullapool on February. I was intending to shoot the Elphin Bothy but wasn’t sure if I’d get to Loch Stack but after watching this Vlog I’ll definitely make the time. Thanks again.

      It is a really beautiful place to live…..altho' the midges test my patience in the summer months. Thankfully, the Highlands summer doesn't last long.

    Your advice regarding slowing down and thinking about the composition is spot on. My only concern is about the ' Vlevia-esque ' colours of the stone hut and the distant hills. Why?

    • @deanallanphotography
      @deanallanphotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching this episode filmed in Assynt and thank you for your comment. I have photographed the "Elphin Bothy" many times in a multitude of weather conditions over the past 7 or 8 yrs. On this particular day, I tried the Velvia Film type on the menu of my Fuji 50GFX, more out of curiosity and nostalgia, as it was a film type I used back in the days when I was a fashion photographer. I obviously drew out the detail in post processing to get the final result. I appreciate it is not to everybody's taste and to be honest it is not in keeping with my style of portraying the Highlands in a bleaker way. However, I fancied doing something different on this particular day. It is not my usual style but occasionally I like to mix it up a little. I hope this helps to explain my rationale of the velvia-esque colours and I appreciate your comment. I would welcome any further comment you would like to make and hope I can answer any questions you may have. Thank you for watching this episode. It is very much appreciated.

      @@deanallanphotography Thank, Dean. I am glad my old eyes were not deceiving me. It is a valid image, no matter how one looks at it. It has been many decades since I last used Velvia. I used to prefer the good old Kodachrome 64 Pro. Take care.

    Great photography. With the relatively long exposures how do you keep the foregraound elements like grasses from bluring? Are you stacking exposures?

    • @deanallanphotography
      @deanallanphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scott….thank you for watching this episode and taking the time to comment. So, this image was taken at a shutter speed of 1.5 sec with minimal breeze there was very little movement in the grasses. However, if the exposure was longer, let's say 30 seconds, I would have taken 2 photographs so as to give me the option of exposure blending - stiller grasses. But that said, the grasses in this image are not the main character of the photograph. I want the viewers eye to travel through the image to the building and therefore blurry or soft focused grass will help this. Pin sharp grass may have the effect of stopping the eye before it reaches the building which is not what I wanted. Therefore, I would've kept the grasses at the 30 sec exposure so the eye glosses over them. I hope this helps. If you would like any further information, please don't hesitate to ask. Dean

    A fine set of winter images. How do you manage to get the 32-64 to shoot at 30 and 31mm? :-)

    • @deanallanphotography
      @deanallanphotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well spotted Andrew…..the fuji lenses are great, but not that great! Human error I'm afraid, my mistake. All taken on the 32-64mm lens with a focal length that should've said 32mm. I'll make sure I don't make the same mistake again (hopefully). Thank you watching, it is very much appreciated.
