The ironic thing is that whatever Greed wanted actually came from Father. So if Father had followed his desires, or his "Greed", he would have made friends like Greed did. It was precisely because Father cut off his Greed that he ended up in this situation of being all alone and getting pummeled by Edward and with everybody cheering for Edward.
@@xorngoh7303 It’s genius really how each of the homunculi indirectly say something huge about Father’s character. Like you said, Greed’s want for companionship is Father’s want for companionship. Wrath’s anger towards humanity is Father’s, Envy’s jealousy of human’s strength and ability to grow is Father’s, etc. Even more “basic” sins work like this. Sloth could represent Father’s waste of powerful potential. Father also just likes to chill in his chair underground too lol
Comes to something when he had enough adrenaline in his system that he could use an arm that's had no exercise for over four years to rip a length of rebar straight out of the concrete.
The thing I find most interesting about Greed and Father is that, logically, Father couldn't have removed all of his greed from himself, otherwise he'd be left with no ambition to become God. More so, I think Greed represents the desires Father thought were unnecessary. Things like money, fame and sex that Greed mentioned in his introduction. Of course, that includes the desire of friendship, which turned out to be Greed's greatest desire and, by that same token, also one of Father's until he abandoned it. I think that also reflects in how Greed, unlike all the other homunculi, doesn't treat humans as disposable or an inferior species. Instead, he actually seems to be fond of them and straight up admits that outside of his regeneration and Ultimate Shield, he's not too different from them. Father meanwhile, due to wanting to become God, treats humans as pawns that are below him. The only time Father ever shows a real interest in someone is when he first meets the Elrics, which is coincidentally while he has Greed back inside of him. Greed might want power and to live forever, but he isn't really interested in becoming God, because that's the one desire Father kept for himself.
Greed'smoment(s) of realization throughout these next two episodes is heartbreaking. So far two Humonculi have actually been their sin towards humans. I like to think maybe they all had a little jealousy, hunger, or anger etc. towards humans. In that case, it's probably a reflection of the Dwarf in the Flask. There are so many layers to this show, I love it so much!
One example is Envy. He sure was wrathful after Mustang killed Lust. They were even saying it to the embodiment of Wrath too, while Wrath was the one being calm.
You guys hit it on the marker for Edward's total rage out, his off the rails anger has been ranged from height based tantrums to blinded by hatred beatdowns. The things he's done to Father would have killed anyone else. We've only seen Edward nearly kill someone before, it was Shao Tucker, a matter of family being betrayed and hurt in such a heartless way. The overarching theme of Fmab is family, community, friendship and willing to do what is needed to protect them even more than that is the namesake "Brotherhood" and Edward just saw his taken away. He pummeled a person with who knows how many hits of concrete, cut the dudes head nearly in half. He's not having a tantrum, he's out for blood. Kimblee would be disappointed and impressed.
My favorite part of that beat down was the terrified scream Father let out just before that giant spear took half his face off; man that was cathartic!
Thanks so much! I got the idea when I got curious how many souls father had left after Hohenheims reverse transmutation, and then after calculating and researching that number I thought having it be a continues “health bar” would be fun!
Sneaking in that blooper was just *_chef's kiss_* What I've always found interesting is how Ed and Al spent so many years trying to get their original bodies back, and yet the answer was right there in front of them the whole time: equivalent exchange. The trade goes both ways. And of course it's Al, the more creative of the two, who figured it out first. Now let's see what Ed will give up to bring him back...
The moment ed was getting cheered on by everyone around him and everyone he's had an impact on solidified it as one of my favorite episodes of this series.
“edward elric, the dude who punched open the gate of truth just so he could yell at his brother a little longer. edward elric, the guy who punched his dad in the face, his dad who’s immortal. edward elric, the dude who punched god, just straight fucking decked him. the Catch These Hands Alchemist”
Hahahaha you switched out the real dialog Hoinheim said with the blooper! Beautiful! I think most of us thought the same thing too. Can’t wait for the bloopers.
no episode of this series ever misses, but this one of the best. We get to see ed get his arm back, father start getting worked, and best of all, we finally get to hear greed admit to what it was he has wanted. It's touching and very powerful lmao but i'm so glad you added that snippet of the bloopers with hoenheim. I can't wait to see your full reactions to that
idk, theres so many good one's to chose from. Envy's monologue admitting to killing Hughes, Wrath going after Scar's seeming lack of faith during their fight (RIP Ed Blaylock), Kimblee and Alphonse's philosophy debate.
The last one about a heart full metal is my moto.... I would face everything again just to be here, where I am, no matter how close I was to give up and how much pain I had to endure, how many losses... I accepted it all now, I love this anime.
I do feel like the scene with Hawkeye and Mustang was done better in the manga than the anime. In the manga, she's literally supporting him as they're fighting, holding him up with his arm around her shoulders as she directs where he should attack. Also, that blooper cut was amazing. Look forward to seeing the full thing! xD
HAHAHAHAAA! Thank you for including the bit from the Bloopers in there, that was totally unexpected, and now I know you've already seen them, so no need for reminders. XD
One thing Ed calling Father a novice is call back to father Cornello who was the first antagonist in manga. Also the translation is a bit strange here (probably so the lipflaps are in sync). Ed said to both "Get up you third-rate (villain), I'll show you what difference between us is."

Its very telling how the regular humans, the non alchemists, have done some of the biggest damage on the strongest homunculi. It was General Grumman that blew the train and halted Wrath, Fu and Buccaneer that stabbed Wrath, and a nameless Briggs soldier that shot him. Then here, its another nameless Briggs soldier that landed the first real shot Our Father (he is also a homunculus). Its these regular men without the power of creation and destruction that are holding him. Because humans are tenacious enough to surpass God when they work together
I watch FMA Brotherhood every couple of months as it’s one of my all time favourites and one of my comfort shows and I never realised until I watched your reaction that Al was mirroring Ed bring his soul back 😢😭😭😭
I can tell you had a lot of fun editing this one totally worth the rewatch on youtube I've been only watching your patreon vids for a few months now tbh
Father told Greed that everything Greed wanted, he wanted first. There are a lot of little character moments that show aspects of who the Dwarf in the Flask was before he severed these emotions.
I love how greed learns from his own limitations and interaction with others. He learned in his fight with Ed that his healing and defense not working at the same time was a weakness enemies could explore. And so Greed explored this same weakness in his father when trying to steal his philosopher stone.
There was a study about teamwork where they quizzed people individually about a survival scenario and then put them in groups of 5 to figure out the same scenario. The individual that scored the highest on the individual assessment dominated his group and their answers were a copy of his initial effort. His group scored the lowest out of any group. I wish I could find the write up, but basically the lesson is if you're not learning from someone it doesn't mean that you know more than them, it means you're not looking hard enough. A group where everyone contributes will almost always outperform any outstanding individual.
Okay so for every blooper scene I had been mouthing the blooper alternative dialogue, and my utter surprise when I said "FUCK HIM UP" only for the exact dialogue to appear on the reaction had me ROLLING with laughter!! Sneaky edit there!!
11:55 this scene NEVER fails to bring goosebumps. This shows goes through a lot of darkness, but nothing feels as dark and hopeless as Father seemingly about to kill any potential hope of the main characters fighting him. Then the men in white come and the horns start blaring that combat flare that brings a glimpse of hope to the fight
My fave part of the latest episodes in regards to greed is that it circles back to what father said to greed “everything you’ve wanted, I desired it to.” So when greed wants friends, THAT circles back to what hohenheim said: “YOU SHIRKED AT THE IDEA OF A COMMUNITY!!!…Did you what a community to?” The visible realization afterwards lends credence to this to
It’s true next episode is my favorite of FMA, and it drives me nuts I have to wait so long to get to it every time when I want to analyze it to its fullest, but this episode is something else. Everyone using EVERYTHING in their power to whittle down Father is just so amazing. Every solution these people have found they found it together. This might be the power of friendship, but this is the variation that works. It’s not like Yugioh or Pokémon’s friendship power which is quite honestly barf inducing once you see this. This entire crew is a family. Everyone here is a member. Made one way or another, this is one enormous family. And Ed will not let ANYTHING threaten this family. But you know who is dearest are the ones he has by blood. All truth moments going forward are singularly the best moments in the entire show. Both versions. We are at the juncture where Brotherhood just can’t even be compared to 03. This is where I say it once more. 03 is a beginning with no end. And Brotherhood is an end with no beginning. And both need to feed off each other regardless how well they work alone. As amazing as this show is, it is a THOUSAND times more rewarding of going through 03’ easy. These sacrifices these brothers make here were ALWAYS on the table. But they needed to come this far to have the will to follow through. I keep thinking to myself how is Father’s 1 soul so resilient. Then it occurred to me he doesn’t have one at all. And that’s just one human’s soul left he has to be using. Which I genuinely forgot because he IS so lively of a non-existence. Even if he shouldn’t have that much. I did mention his worldview is always BENEATH them. But throughout this battle all he demonstrates are the sins he worked so hard to suppress. This is what perfection looks like. Also REALLY appreciate the Hohenheim edit. It was needed. Just 2 more episodes left. What a journey it has been
This anime perfected the art of a final arc. Satisfying pay-offs, multiple character arcs being tied up and tons of emotion. I judge other anime more harshly because of this series. It’s not fair.
"Get up you novice, I'm about to show you how outclassed you really are!" Echoing the words he taunted Father Cornello with all the way back at the start.
So I realized by rewatching this series, the "You Novice!" insult is a reference to Ed's fight against Father Cornello where he said "Come down here and I'll show youwho the novice is"
i kind of want to rewatch the 03 anime. it's not as good, but i have a lot of nostalgia for that time in my life. it was summer break between 9th and 10th grade, i'd wake up at 6PM, play tony hawks underground 2 on ps2 online until adult swim started anime (back when it was on every night instead of just saturdays) where i'd have it on in the background while i was on AIM and in chat rooms. as soon as FMA started I'd go get a bowl of rocky road ice cream.
A little detail that's unfortunately lost in this otherwise near-perfect English translation : the taunt Ed gives Father at the end of the episode is supposed to be exactly the same as the one he gave Father Cornello during the Lior episode, bookending the series between the first (Lior was the pilot chapter of the manga) and the last fight, both against an opponent going by the title of Father. Now, the translation *is* close enough that the sense is preserved ("I'll show you who the novice is" vs "I'll show you how outclassed you are"), but it'd have been a nice touch to have both lines matching. It's nonetheless one of the best dubs - translation and cast - I've ever seen, 9.9/10, and tied for favorite EN dub with Steins;Gate (which I'll be suggesting as a possibilty in your pinned thread) P.S. I know the concern comes several weeks too late, but I hope Kenny's throat is feeling better.
What's really interesting is the fact that up until this point ED has avoided trying to cause lethal injuries because of his moral code, it's only when he lost his brother that Ed stops holding back and is willing to go for lethal hits, Alfonse is his moral compass.
Envy was jealous of human. Greed wanted others to desire him (friendship). Wraith hated humans ability to change (made them unpredictable) Sloth was killed by Armstrong who choose to never again quit in the face of difficulties. Lust was killed by Mustang who had eyes for only the future of a nation. Gluttony was eaten by Pride. Pride was destroyed when he attempted to abandon his pride.
Ok, if Montana don't tearbend at any point during this series I'm convinced Attack on Titan completely desensitized our girl I was sure this was going to be the episode that it would happen
it's interesting that he could him a novice, because the last person he could a novice is father Cornelo (don't know if I wrote his name correctly and I'm not looking it up)
Shout out to the random, unnamed Briggs soldier who straight up shot the god-like Big Bad of the series in the head without warning or hesitation to save Ed and Izumi. One of the many things I like about this series is that it plays straight the idea of friends and allies. In a lot of shonen/action anime, there will be a lot of talk about the power of friendship, how people are stronger together, etc. But when it comes down to the final fight, it's usually only the main protagonist that has the power to fight on equal grounds. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, but I do appreciate FMA:B's approach. Everyone is important, everyone contributes, and if any one of them had been missing, the fight would have been that much harder.

Echoing the words he taunted Father Cornello with all the way back at the start.
So I realized by rewatching this series, the "You Novice!" insult is a reference to Ed's fight against Father Cornello where he said "Come down here and I'll show youwho the novice is"
I spat my drink out, not expecting the blooper to be edited in there.
"GET UP YOU NOVICE! IM ABOUT TO SHOW YOU HOW OUTCLASSED YOU REALLY ARE! THIS FIGHT YOU LOSE!" its soo good holy hell
The blooper took me so much by surprise 😂😂😂😂 LOVE IT
i kind of want to rewatch the 03 anime. it's not as good, but i have a lot of nostalgia for that time in my life. it was summer break between 9th and 10th grade, i'd wake up at 6PM, play tony hawks underground 2 on ps2 online until adult swim started anime (back when it was on every night instead of just saturdays) where i'd have it on in the background while i was on AIM and in chat rooms. as soon as FMA started I'd go get a bowl of rocky road ice cream.
(at 4:50) He's torturing Hohenheim, by using his own people's souls against him.
It's nonetheless one of the best dubs - translation and cast - I've ever seen, 9.9/10, and tied for favorite EN dub with Steins;Gate (which I'll be suggesting as a possibilty in your pinned thread)
P.S. I know the concern comes several weeks too late, but I hope Kenny's throat is feeling better.
>Steins;gate dub
>Good
Sure maybe if you also think big bang theory is a good show.
One little detail people tend to miss is that Ed’s right arm in emaciated and the nails are grown out from not being used in years
Fantastic detail I saw next episode!
Even Father's literal distilled sins were more human than himself.
Wraith hated humans ability to change (made them unpredictable)
Sloth was killed by Armstrong who choose to never again quit in the face of difficulties.
Lust was killed by Mustang who had eyes for only the future of a nation.
Gluttony was eaten by Pride.
Pride was destroyed when he attempted to abandon his pride.
Ok, if Montana don't tearbend at any point during this series I'm convinced Attack on Titan completely desensitized our girl
I was sure this was going to be the episode that it would happen
OMG YES you're going to watch the bloopers !
the person instantly warmed the heart it instantly all AND I MEAN ALL scream ed name ❤🔥❤🔥
21:51 -
Al: Mr. Truth? I don't feel so good.
Now i gotta wait for 24 hours until the reaction is uploaded in TH-cam 🙃
Whelp time to get a box of tissues ready for ep 63, cuz dammit so many feels. Also time to play the song Rain on loop and cry myself to sleep...iykyk
Imagine watching the first fullmetal alchemist show and seeing what happens when you get ahead of the source material
I mean that one was good, but Brotherhood is unparalleled. It is HANDS DOWN my favorite of all time anime
FMA2003 is really good as well. A bit less actiony and more melodramatic but it has some fantastic twists and moments. Also i love melodrama so🤷♂️
"he makes an ornate column on his way to the top."
Anything worth doing, is worth doing with style my good man. 🤠
it's interesting that he could him a novice, because the last person he could a novice is father Cornelo (don't know if I wrote his name correctly and I'm not looking it up)
Shout out to the random, unnamed Briggs soldier who straight up shot the god-like Big Bad of the series in the head without warning or hesitation to save Ed and Izumi.
The soul counter was fucking hilarious😂💀
To this day, when asked about who is the most hardcore unit, any Briggs soldier will immediately respond "Ed", and salute.
Adding hoenheim doing the blooper edit in there was peak
Keep in mind that this is the only time that Ed went for a kill shot.
Oh snap, you're right
I think this is my favorite episode of anime ever
Fmab is a masterpiece
You're goshdang right
aynen abi
Reminder that this whole series Ed has had to hold back to avoid killing people
This fight Ed really shows how powerful he is.
LOOOOOOOOL the bloopers caught me by surprise 😂😂
Glad you watch the bloopers but you need to watch Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood 4-koma theater English too
They also had mustang basically crucified when they did the portal
(At 5:40) So I WAS right. He IS a frog Chimera.
Ah yes, the common Shonen anime way to beat the big bad, also known as the Corvax strategy: group up and hit it till it dies!
