The rothco hat is part of the m51 gear which didn’t show up until the war was almost over.

There’s multiple references for that particular hat in the Chosin Reservoir. Difficult to spot sometimes but it’s a fairly common item throughout the Marine forces. It’s mainly a mix of the pile caps, hbt caps, and those

Your videos are always a feast for the eyes. Regarding the M1 chinstrap: I read somewhere that the straps on the early helmets were too short to tie them together behind the helmet. Only later was it possible to use longer chin straps. It must have been like this after 1941. Since masses of WWII equipment were used in the Korean conflict, there were certainly many M1 helmets from 1941 at the start. In order not to be injured by the closed chin strap in the event of a pressure wave, the straps were left open and dangled around. Best regards from Germany and keep it up. 😃👍

Yes the early war fixed bale helmet chin straps were impossible to hook up to the back of the helmet. But sometime in 43 the swivel bales came about and you can now hook them to the back. and then really late war came the T1 green painted hardware chin straps which made it even easier to do it as well.

The chinstraps on the early helmets were the 1917 straps that's why they were shorter and that's why when the later ones came out no one noticed that the straps could be strapped to the back because no one did it especially the vets that had been there since the canal campaign.

Well I pretty much have all the field equipment I need for the Korean war including a original 1951 McCord helmet. Just need a Garand and the uniform. I do own a pair of OG Double Buckles in my size.

Standard field jacket pretty much, but for extremely cold weather they wore a m47 parka lookalike

      @@pepsiboi3798 it's not a lookalike it's deadass just a longer issued M47

@@pepsiboi3798 I just don't know what uniform the Army would have used early war though. Would the M37 pattern have been used though because the later postwar pattern uniforms are harder to find in repro.
