    This is a good video. I've always wondered about that Dr. Phil interview but I could never force myself to watch it. I hate the idea that he exploited her and I don't like seeing that happen to people. She didn't deserve that at all.

    • @tankardoftales4645
      @tankardoftales4645  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      100% agree! Shelley didn't deserve to be exploited as well as any person who was in the spotlight for years and retires.
      I never wanted to watch the Dr. Phil episode because I don't like the "Jerry Springer" platform/freak show, but I was forced to watch it because of this Rob Navarro conspiracy. And a few youtube channels annoyed me because they were "referencing the Dr. Phil episode" as proof that Stanley Kubrick messed her up, so I had to rewatch this Dr. Phil episode 3 times! And there is NOTHING on that episode that Shelley calls out Stanley as being very mean to her. And only to her.
      It's a rough episode, don't recommend it.
      And while digging up the OTHER Shelley Duvall mistreatment rumors I'd learned that 99.9% is internet made up stuff. My wife thinks there has to be something I'm missing but I'm not finding it. And I don't think it exists.
      I do think it's interesting to find out that Shelley was injured in Time Bandits (sounds like she had a concussion - which seems like a huge deal in sports). I hope she had that taken care of but I'm not finding any other stories of the injury. And most likely in the 1980's - she brushed it off.
      Thanks for watching.

      @@tankardoftales4645 I might get into this in my upcoming Coffee Break. But it just seems like there's a lot of Kubrick hate going on. A lot of unsubstantiated stories that he was a bad guy, with absolutely no evidence to back them up. Something is up! I'm thinking his movies pissed off the establishment and they're just now realizing what he truly revealed about them. That's why these analyses are important. I think people like us need to keep an eye on this. Something is waiting to be revealed, IMO.

      @@theobjectofart Seems like something strange is happening. I think Cancel Culture is looking for another target and Stanley Kubrick has a bullseye. I think it's a unfair cancelation because the original sources (stuff that Shelley said were taken out of context) are not hard to find. It makes me believe those jumping on canceling Stanley Kubrick are reactionary from an earlier besmirching video.
      Did someone from the establishment started the rumor? Maybe John Kim has a good idea? He seems to know all about the establishment connections.
      I think it's the snobs in the Oscars that started the rumor. Shelley's comment was aimed at the movie critics and the Oscars. She was hurt by the razzes nomination.
      I'm excited for your coffee breaks. Just don't worry about rushing the videos. This silly video took almost a month for us to make.

      @@tankardoftales4645 the me too movement generated a lot of stories for the media. They might have been trying to manufacture a narrative just to get a good story, or it could have been something more nefarious. I have come to the conclusion that in an interview that is going to be broadcast/ published, one should treat it in the same way as you would if you were giving testimony in court. You are being tried in the court of public opinion, and the interviewers have an agenda, just like a prosecutor would.

    • @victoryak86
      @victoryak86 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This whole Shelley narrative is so silly. She herself spoke very highly of Kubrick and said she did indeed have a very hard experience making the Shining but not that she was “abused” in any way. She did say she went through a breakup and indeed SK is a very demanding director (as most great directors are). She said she grew more as an actress during that year than on any other film. So yeah, this is all people making up stuff for their own reasons. Whatever her problems have been in recent years it’s a huge stretch to say it was due to her experience on the Shining. Unless these people know more about her than she herself knows which is preposterous.

  • @TheStockwell

    A pinch of salt about "poor, pathetic Shelley Duvall!" and what Kubrick - the vile beast! - did to her: let me see if I have this correct: she was so damaged by working with Kubrick that she went on to do another 19 films over the next twenty years. During that time, she created and executive produced a string of television series, acted in over two dozen television films, and hosted several television shows - which she also occasionally wrote for.
    Wow - Kubrick really did a number on her! He destroyed her so badly it took nearly twenty years for his cruelty to exact its toll! Dr. Phil showed us! During her post-Kubrick period, she was so traumatized she wound up with two Primetime Emmy nominations, a Peabody Award, and seven CableACE Awards (and 14 nominations).
    No doubt about it, working with Kubrick - the vile beast! - ended what could've been a successful career. He has a lot to answer for, the swine! Thank Goodness that finally, with decades of hindsight - and people repeating the same stories thanks to Dr. Phil - we've been able to reduce her entire career to a cliche! I'm glad Kubrick, who died in 1999, is being punished for his entire career. Burn the films! Die, monster, die! 🙄

      @@TheStockwell I think Kubrick and Shelley are victims for this strange hoax.
      Do you think this hoax was created by the establishment? It sounds like it. When I was digging into the mistreatment mystery I came to the belief that somebody partial remembered the 1980 Ebert Interview and assumed it was in context to Stanley making it hard on her, I would believe this was pre internet days (Mid 1990's or very early 2000's) where people don't know how to find the sources because they are not in the internet. But I would believe after 2008, people have found and read the 1980 interview and find out that Shelley was talking to the Movie Critics for overlooking her hard work. So maybe somebody is purposely pushing a false narrative? or maybe we just got too many people wanting to cancel Stanley Kubrick because they are mindless trolls.

    • @TheStockwell
      @TheStockwell 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tankardoftales4645 My guess would be the final possibility you offered mindless trolls. We live in an age in which people think rewriting, reinterpreting, contradicting, or totally trashing known history and people is some sort of respectable activity.
      As soon as something happens, you'll see people saying that isn't what happened - or that the truth is being withheld by Sinister Forces or some other spooky thing.
      You name it and it's bound to be a conspiracy attached to it. The weather, the death of a well-known person, anything political, food, leash laws, a new album by Taylor Swift - it's all the work of the mysterious and powerful Elites. When it's *not* the mysterious and powerful Elites, it's the work of our shape-shifting Reptilian Overlords!

    To be fair, I believe they also very idiotically gave Stanley Kubrick a Razzie for director so they were just stupid!
    Y’all have to remember, this was late 70’s, early 80’s so things were different

    • @tankardoftales4645
      @tankardoftales4645  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was different. Agree. I think Shelley Duvall really hurt by the razzies nomination. The Ebert interview was her way tell critics like Ebert that she worked very hard to play Wendy and all they did was focus their attention of Stanley Kubrick.
      Where they stupid? I think heavy influenced by Stephen King bitching about the Shining and a jealousy of Horror was a very popular genre. In the late 1990's Siskel and Ebert said they should never gave reviews of horror films because they viewed horror differently.

      Talking about the Dr Phil Show? I agree it's a very hard show to watch. Although, my attraction to the show started with all the "robotic TH-camrs" seemed to connect Shelley Duvall mistreatment of Stanley Kubrick to the Dr Phil Show. And naturally, I saw nothing in the Dr Phil Show that connects Shelley's Issues to Stanley Kubrick. Then I had to find another version of the Dr Phil Show just to make sure what I'm looking for was not edited out. Then I watched a 3rd time, this time to prepare for my video.
      I do not recommend anybody with a conscience to watch any of the Dr Phil Shows, it's one of the worst exploitations shows around.

    I think thr behind-the-scenes shows a clear picture of events. Kubrick was bullying her a bit but she was being a bit of a whiner, too. The multiple takes are crazy but I don't think he mistreated her anymore than any other taskmaster, misogynistic boss did in 1980.

      I've watched/read ton of Shelley Duvall interviews. She highly respected Kubrick. I think to the point that she changed from an actress to a movie producer/director/filmmaker. There an interesting 1998 interview she's plugging her new horror series and credited her experience in the Shining.
      I'm not sure as for the motive for making Kubrick a monster, it does make the conspiracies that he was assassinated for Eyes Wide Shut is a possibility.
