For this untouched endeavour of ours, we took the Maruti Suzuki Jimny MT to test its capabilities with four people on board and luggage. Maruti Jimny is that poodle of water which makes one think twice or twenty times whether to step forward or not ! What an uncanny resemblance with the Tata Nano story. People were worried then about "log kya kahenge Nano liya toh" and now they are undecided because of the "Thar kyu nahi liya" dilemma.
What a world. Social stigma is such a pain. Only the brave hearts and the most nonchalant individuals are the ones who will commit for a Jimny. Such is the niche for this car.
I believe only the true blood auto enthusiasts who pay the EMIs out of their own pockets will understand and appreciate what Jimny is offering. The society will keep on blabbering bullshit. Family members might also join the bandwagon. But only the ones who know what they really want will stick to this car. You won't see "Chaapris" is a Jimny but most definitely will see them in Thars.
My two cent rant to defend the Jimny is emboldened by the fact that I own a Nano. I have been burnt by the society for driving a Nano and I didn't give a flying f**k to what anyone thinks. Jimny is a standalone product and I believe it will be owned by the most deserving people; unlike the monstrosity called Thar. No offence intended. Every car has its own fan base. But the over enthusiastic comparison between Thar and the Jimny is obnoxious.
Long story short. Get the Jimny only and only if you have decided on your own. Opinions, suggestions, ideas, demands and expectations from others will lead you in the wrong way. No matter if it is from your better half. Be a man / woman. (I give a rat's ass about non-binary f**k ups) and decide what your priority is. After all, no one is going to come forward to pat your back on purchasing a Jimny. You and you alone will have that unholy grin on your face while driving this damn car. Rest of world will be a blur.
** I SINCERELY wish Maruti would pay me a dime for defending the Jimny. Till date (20.09.2024) I haven't purchased the Jimny but have set my eyes on one. God willing...I will get one soon. That too a MT. Challenge accepted society !!

Great review of the Jimny... However, can you please intimate the overall fuel efficiency the car gave ? What were the occasions to use the 4x4, if any ? The roads didn't look very bad for any other car to negotiate them. Any pictures of the luggage you carried ? Thanks for a great coverage of the destination.
The overall FE was 14.84 kmpl with 4 people & AC running. This included slush driving, steep inclines, & high speed maneuvers. 4X4 was engaged during the incline to Bhopalgarh fort. The trail is halfway cemented & the rest is loose sand and gravel. During our visit it was raining hence it turned into a slush, especially due to the plough caused by tractors.
@@91Wheels Well, ~15kpl is very good for the kind of terrain and weather for this lifestyle vehicle. Thanks for the input, does help in firming up my decision now.
