L'Or Barista Coffee And Espresso System ... Can L'Or Beat Nespresso At Their Own Game?

  • L’Or and Philips combine efforts to produce the L’Or Barista Coffee And Espresso System. Being compatible with Nespresso Original Line capsule sizes along with their own larger coffee size capsules, is L’Or beating Nespresso at their own game? We get into the details of the machine and share our thoughts in this Seven Minute Review.
    Here is a link to the Ninja Espresso and Coffee Barista System review we did recently as well:

    This unit looks nice and reasonably priced. I may purchase one. I've given up on the Nespresso Vertuo and their customer service lunacy requiring video troubleshooting of machines for repair or replacement. My replacement broke within a year as did my original purchase. Barcodes, laser and water mixed with coffee is a bad combination. I agree with those who say the Nespresso Vertuo line is junk.

      Hey Jim. I know that feeling all too well. Make a purchase, newer product that’s a little more appealing after a few years. You have a good product in the Vertuo machine. I’d say use it till it dies, then see what’s the best product for you at that time. In the mean time, thank you for viewing and supporting our channel.

    I'm looking to buy a espresso machine. One thing I'd like to know is how loud are they?
    It would be good to hear the noise of the machine without having music going over the tip.

    • @sevenminutereviews
      @sevenminutereviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your question. The machine is about the same loudness/volume as other Nespresso machines. I wouldn’t consider it loud, though it is a little louder than say a drip coffee maker. Hope that helps. Also, thank you for the suggestion on hearing the coffee maker’s volume vs placing music over it. We will take that into consideration.

    Do you need to use the larger pod for a 2.7 oz espresso? Or does it work with the normal espresso pod?

    • @sevenminutereviews

      The 1.4, 2.7, and 3.7 oz are the size options with standard espresso capsules. The larger capsules make 5, 8, and 12oz sizes. Hope that helps and thank you for supporting our channel.

    thank you so much for your review. when it comes to Nespresso original vs L'or, which machine do you think produces rich in "flavorful" when used the same type of pods, and comparing side by side?... I have bought (sadly had to return) Nespresso Pop (too loud, and machine seemed faulty), but whatever coffee pods were left, I opened it and used it in "single serving" in my Ninja, and taste IS NOT THE SAME! IT LOST quality of the coffee. so now I'm back shopping for the "expresso" machine, with knowing there's an option (two sizes) on Original Nespresso.... but also this caught my interest! I wonder how the coffee taste side by side from this and Nespresso Original. have you tried it? thank you in advance :)

      Hi Iryna. I truly appreciate your question and comments. I have found the L’Or to be on par with the original line Nespresso machines with respect to quality of the shots. I really like the versatility of the L’Or with respect to the larger size capsules L’Or offers which can only be used in the L’Or machines. I will also say that if you like milk based drinks (lattes, macchiatos, cappuccinos, etc), then the Nespresso Creatista models by Breville really bring those cafe style options to you from a Nespresso machine. But, if you go with any Breville product, I would purchase an extended warranty. We’ve had issues with more than one unit in the past, though we do tend to use them a lot. I like Breville’s features, but reliability is questionable. But if milk based drinks aren’t that significant, this L’Or machine is very good. L’Or does have a unit that comes with a milk frother as well, but this won’t give you the same cafe quality results as the Creatista units will. Thanks for supporting our channel.

    Please, how can I change the volume of water (in espresso and coffee modes) in a specific size key in the L'OR Barista machine?

    • @sevenminutereviews
      @sevenminutereviews  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi and thank you for your question. Here are the directions directly from the manufacturer site. This is from the Australian site, so keep in mind where it says “double shot”, in the US versions that would correspond to the “coffee” capsule sizes as opposed to the espresso capsule size.
      Instructions to adjust the amount of coffee
      1. Turn on your L'OR Barista Coffee Machine and wait for the machine to heat up.
      Note: If there is no On/Off button you can ignore step 1 and continue to step 2.
      2. Fill the water tank.
      3. Insert a capsule and push down the lever.
      Note: Insert a double shot capsule when you want to adjust the coffee volume for double shot capsules.
      4. Press and hold the recipe button you want to program and release the button when it starts flashing rapidly.
      5. Your coffee machine is now making a coffee. Press the button again when the cup contains the desired amount of
      coffee The selected coffee variety is now programmed to your liking.
      So to program the coffee or the espresso capsule size, insert that capsule. The machine should program the drink based on the capsule size you insert.

    Do you know if there are reusable pods for the L’OR coffee espresso/coffee machine?

    • @sevenminutereviews
      @sevenminutereviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Roxy. That is a great question. There are several options for reusable capsules/pods (mainly aluminum) for the original line Nespresso size capsules. I haven't used any of them myself, so I can't really recommend a specific one, but several options can be found on Amazon with pretty good reviews. I would expect these to be compatible with the L'Or machine as it accepts original line Nespresso capsules. I haven't yet seen a confirmed reusable capsule for the larger L'Or coffee sized drinks. I hope this answers your question and thank you for your support of our channel.

    I recently received the L’OR Barista Coffee Machine for my birthday. It is very easy to use, but I have found it doesn’t heat the milk to a satisfactory temperature. I have to microwave it for a desired drinkable heat. Any suggestions? Is it supposed to be nearly cold?

    • @sevenminutereviews
      @sevenminutereviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations on receiving one for your birthday. That’s quite a gift. And happy belated birthday. I believe you are referring to the model that includes a milk froth frother. We haven’t reviewed that model as the one we reviewed is the standalone coffee unit. I do know that the frother can do both hot and warm milk froth and can do milk steaming. I’m assuming you know that and are not running the cold frothing setting. But I thought I’d throw that info in just in case. Sometimes putting too much milk can be a reason for insufficient warmth in the milk. The product description says a maximum of 3.9oz for milk frothing (hot or cold) and 8.5oz for milk steaming. I would try within those parameters to see if that helps at all. Thank you for your question and for supporting our channel.

      They’re trying to save themselves from people suing them for burning their tongues. Just like you, I microwave my milk and still use the frother for that crown on the coffee.

    I have the Dolce Gusto due to the variety of flavours they have such as Chocolate, Latte , Americano and others, would the Dolce Gusto pods be compatible with this model? And if not, how can I go about finding Latte pods for the L'OR as I can't seem to find them

    • @sevenminutereviews
      @sevenminutereviews  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi DonReality. I just checked and verified that the Dolce Gusto capsules do not work on the L'Or Barista System, and they don't work on any Nespresso system either. As far as latte pods, the L'Or machine uses espresso capsules/pods and coffee pods. For a latte, you would need some type of a milk frother or something similar. L'Or does offer a milk frother now, though you can use any milk frother of course. The coffee size pods are readily available on Amazon.com and will say coffee pod, whereas the espresso capsules will say espresso capsule. There isn't a specific latte capsule or pod. For a latte you would likely want to use one or even two (for a double shot) of the espresso capsules, or maybe a small size coffee from the coffee pods, and then use your milk frother for the milk part. Also, remember for a latte with a creamier mouth feel, pour the coffee in the cup first then the milk. For a macchiato type drink where the coffee taste is more prominent, pour the milk into the cup first then the coffee into the milk (it keeps the layers of coffee, milk, and foam separate that way and has a stronger coffee taste). Try both and see which you prefer.

    Is the machine any good, sturdy, well built? will it last 1 month? is it noisy? Is it possible to adjust temperature and quantity? any flaws worth saying?

    • @sevenminutereviews
      @sevenminutereviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your questions. I feel it is pretty well built, but I just received a comment by another viewer that their’s stopped working after 90 days and they are working through the warranty process for it. Of course that can happen with any machine, but something to note. Philips is the manufacturer for the L’Or machine and I expect Philips to make good quality products. As far as noise, I would say it is about the same as other Nespresso machines I have used. Not very loud, and no bean grinding which usually makes most of the noise in whole bean to cup machines. The temperature is not adjustable, though I’ve found the drinks to be nice and warm. I feel the drinks are even a little warmer than some of the Nespresso branded machines. Volume/quantity is adjustable for each button and each capsule size (for example you can set the volume/quantity for any button using an espresso size capsule, and also set the volume for a coffee size capsule for the same button). I hope that answers your questions, and thank you for supporting our channel.

    I'm not sure where you got your misinformation from, but OG espresso machines from Italy produce espresso at 8 bars of pressure, not 19. The machines you mentioned including this one in the review aren't really capable or producing proper espresso since they rely on creating pressure by having the water go through a single point on the capsule. This is the method that cheap espresso makers on the market use, since it doesn't require a high quality pump to push out high pressure.
    For auto coffee makers you're much better off using a superautomatic, which grinds your fresh coffee beans and gives you not only a better cup but a cheaper one as well, something like Gaggia Cadorna.

    • @sevenminutereviews
      @sevenminutereviews  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Daumex. You are absolutely correct on the points you made. My intention with stating that the Nespresso original line machines and the L'Or machine are similar to a traditional espresso machine by using 19 bars of pressure to pull the shot is that they work similar to an espresso machine by using pressure to pull a shot. I am comparing this mainly to the Nespresso Vertuo line machines which use a centrifugal technology to produce similar results to espresso. Basically, our goal here is to help the understanding that the Nespresso original line results will be more similar to a true espresso than the Vertuo line. Agreed that neither is going to be exactly a true espresso, but I do feel the original line gets pretty close. It's interesting you mention the Gaggia Cadorna because we have been using the Gaggia Magenta Plus which is very similar to the Cadorna but has a few less features. We will likely be reviewing the Magenta Plus soon. And you are right, the per cup price on using whole beans beats pretty much any capsule or pod system.
