    It seems to me that the bunker's habitability depends upon electricity, which is the first thing to go in a disaster that would require a bunker for survival. Otherwise, this bunker seems to be, functionally, nothing more an elaborate and quirky underground holiday cabin.

    • @OldManGripStrength
      @OldManGripStrength ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure they are meant for long term habitation, just until a disaster passes. I notice some of them have a generator but would imagine that a lot of fuel would be required to stay down there long term. Could easily pack enough canned or dry food packs to last a while but from what I've seen a supply of water is always going to be an issue, especially if using the bunker in an NBC environment. However. it does make a cool place for weekends away :)

    I have worked with metal all my life, and believe me a acetylene torch with a cutting had would take off that lock, and if you had a little portable generator and use a plasma cutter couple minutes. If someone planned to get in that bunker they could get into that with not much damage only to the lock, but I would agree it is a really good deal on the price,

    I see a lot of videos on TH-cam that are about people finding and raiding hidden bunkers and whether or not you realize it, your stealing other people's property and endangering their chances of surviving a situation and I'll just say this, I want to see the videos of the people who die because someone had the foresight to arrange Protection on their bunker entrances.

    One vital item you need to pack in your bunker is either a cyanide capsule or 500 painkillers and a bottle of whiskey, because if it all kicks off and you're down in your cool bunker and then after 6 months of no fresh air and no sunlight severe depression kicks in and the others you're down there with start going mad and then you develop root canal toothache and realise there are no doctors or dentists around, it might be time to sign out ;-)

      When there's an outage the family gotta camp In the trees, no fires just raw nuts, veggies and fruit xD I'd rather do that than risk running a generator, if no hills or mountains are above you then well hidden solar would work in a high up tree so reflections don't show but that's a shit place for maintenance in a situation with no hospital should you injure yourself... Gotta balance the ransack/rape/pillage prevention measures taken to hide yourself and the risks in harming yourself added to each upgrade if any...risk to guerilla camo ratio, guerilla methods involving cliffs for example being the last option if an option you should accept at all unless a serious emergency you know could lead to famine otherwise like if there's hydro for oxygen, Clean air and fresh food durring winter months...but you need solar and heat to stay quiet still should main system shut down from natural disasters or something then hopefully a backup solar and heat panel ...but if it's gotta be on a cliff using clever uncommon tricks of the eye or precarious tree then I'd say the risk worth it to have them for that emergency situation...but not if they can be spotted from anywhere, and if you notice anyone or group with balls has taken to hot air balloons or gliders and don't fear bullets from cannibals or looters who want an engine or the materials from a hot air balloons fabric and carriage

      That is the first time I thought about that! I had always thought about the fact that to change the filters you would have to take them out IN THE BUNKER and carry them through it, up the stairs and contaminate everything along the way. Sure you can put it in a bag or 2 but you still have to take it out inside the clean space.

    I have noticed several things worth mentioning, in my opinion.
    That lock is better than a Masterlock but it still can be picked in under 5 minutes by an average person. There is enough space available to get to the lock with a set of lock picks. Look at using Abloy or similar high security locks.
    I would also cover the vent pipes with thin, unpainted steel. Spray it with salty water once in a while and let the steel rust to make it look like it's a part of an abandoned structure. I would do the same thing with the hinged shelter access plate. Make it look unattractive, old and abandoned.
    Also, God forbid, if the shelter will be used to escape nuke fallout, the filter will trap radioactive particles that will produce high levels of Gamma radiation. Being in close proximity to the bed, it will expose the owner to that radiation. Perhaps it can be shielded with a layer of bricks or relocated? It's just an observation.

Then they might have their security in place. Now who’s getting the lead lunch? During cold war, CoE "planted" thousands in back yards all over LA county, all abandoned, still very serviceable. Power was supplied via dedicated DoE underground emergency grid, or in some cases, shared underground power stations that are still in use to this day. While not DoD bunker, it's doable.
