YAPUNG UI , an agricultural ritual of Apatani community

  • Apatani Community of Ziro Valley, Lower Subansiri District of Arunachal Pradesh, India is well known all over the world for their Paddy-cum-Fish cultivation and dexterous utilization of land, unique cultivation with primitive tools, scientific way land and habitat management.
    Being agrarian community obviously, they have numerous agriculture related rituals. This video is about one of those agricultural ritual called Yapung Korlang.

    Rana sir thank you for making this video. But I think you can talk a little more deeper into the Yapung Beniing like the direction in which the Nyibu stands and the name of the spirits who are invoked plus their names like for example the Uii who are invoked in Hija lemba by my teacher Nyibu Pura Pai are Su Myoro, Suchi Myoyo and others. Also maybe another video talking about the structure of the Chant by the Nyibu. Plus the important fact that Danyi Piilo Meder Nello's in Ziro valley doesn't perform this ritual.

      I completely agree with you, this ritual is a bit different from simple yapung Ui. In Hari specially Dusu clan they yearly perform "Yapung Korlang". At the time I had not yet researched on the subject you might have seen my recording tools with Nyibu it is only a process of my research. The video is only to record the performance of ritual event. Hope fully I will try to give video and talk divulging in depth into the Yapung and Yapung Korlang rituals in future.
