The reason Greylock has so many static effects is because the creator actually puts the videos on ACTUAL analogue tapes and then corrupts them and re-records them before uploading. So yeah, this is the most genuine analogue series.
I mean, the reason the first Vita Carnis episodes were so repetitive is because it’s a format. Just like how we format sentences in specific ways that are made to be repetitive and orderly, the episodes are made in repeating segments in a certain sequence to keep things on track instead of every episode being so drastically different it feels like someone else made it. Otherwise, amazing video!

I actually think the formula of the first vita carnis episodes works really well. It’s just so human to me. It feels like the kind of boring documentary that would play in a science class to fill in time, which I think makes perfect sense in universe. The format is so familiar so that we are better able to understand and process what we are being told. It wouldn’t work in my opinion to have found footage instead of a documentary. Vita carnis is a story about creatures we think we understand but really don’t. We need to actually learn what people think is correct before challenging that narrative. I think too many analog horror series accidentally fall the other way, not explaining the threat enough. I get mystery is a big part of it but there needs to be enough to base the mystery on. Sure it doesn’t have to be a full documentary but i like it when we get some explanation about what the threat actually is. It’s a nice change of pace to see a story where the monsters seem to be understood but honestly kind of aren’t. I’m not saying over explain though. I think vita carnis strikes that neat balance of giving us just enough information to keep us interested and feeling like we know what is happening before pulling the rug out from under us to reveal there’s a much bigger story here. There’s conflicting information on how to deal with a mimic encounter, we don’t actually know where these things came from despite our assumptions that they are unique to earth, all that kind of stuff. Anyway thats just my take because vita carnis is my favourite analog horror series and the way it’s presented works extremely well in my opinion. Also the art for the documentary is absolutely amazing and one of my favourite parts of the series.
Yknow, what you said about vita carnis… is literally what I and every fan of the series admits. Even the creator Darian quilroy hated how bad the mimic encounter tape went due to the terrible pacing of it and apparently the costume for the mimic was really bad. Other than that, Vita Carnis is pretty fantastic in all other regards. Just needs more time to cook in the pot. And by that I mean more time to release more of the episodes we like.

The monoliths do mess with technology but more in the same vain as an emp, the flavor enhancer is actually the spores generated from the host of influence both because of it’s similar appearance to the what’s said in the documentary video on them and because each secondary video lines up with the featured creatures informational tape with the host’s initially not seeming to have one until you factor in the flavor enhancer video. This is why I slightly disagree with how you viewed the first videos because while they are in fact repetitive they do build/set up connections that we as viewers are shown in later entries in the series as a whole whether it be basic world build or an addition to the progression of the overarching plot within the story. Feel I must call out Bored Oranges for not doing his homework. While the documentary part of Vita Carnis is "boring" to him, it does provide context to these creatures and how they act. The first of which is that if you look at each video after the documentary, you'll notice that they line up with the documentary videos: Cooking with Crawl with the video about the Crawl, Taking Care of Trimmings with the Trimmings doc video, etc. In addition the Mimic attack video in the second set adds some extra context to an overarching story for the second set of videos with a story about a boy coming home to find his father dead in a brutal way, but the police rule it a "sewer slide". That being said, the Monoliths are stated to have EMP capabilities which disable nearby electronics and attack anyone who comes near them; the flavor enhancer is theorized to be made from the spores of the Host of Influence, who's spores have a hypnotic effect on people who breath in the stuff. tl;dr - Bored Oranges probably should have paid more attention.
The concept of Analog Horror or Found Footage fascinates me. The quality of the product is good, even great. When the creator labels something as Analog Horror or Creepypasta already breaks the immersion for me. As well as implementation on bringing it to us. "This Analog Horror Creepypasta Found Footage was found in another dimension that no one has ever been to that no one witnessed." Well how did the "found footage" get out if no one has ever been there? Knowing that it was created by someone also really breaks the immersion. By the end, I want to be asking myself what in the world is this, what did I just watch and what in the world just happened? The stories are pretty decent, don't get me wrong, but it's partly why I don't watch horror movies, they're just kind of dumb. I love being creeped and weirded out, but the presentation is what rips me out of that headspace. Don't get me wrong, I love Local58, Gemini Entertainment and Minerva Alliance, but I look at those like I'm going to play a video game with jumpscares or going to a commercialized haunted house, not jack with my brain afterwards quality.
