But as time went on they became more leaning, allowing humans to step up a bit. This kind of fight is what I expected Billy in the first movie to do when he whipped out the machete lol.
Predators will only do this if they respect the warrior. The Predator thought he was a worthwhile challenge and decided to give up his advantage to show he viewed this one as more than simple prey.
Somehow I think the respect and honor was mutual. It's established in the earlier predator movies that they hunt purely for sports as an honorably tradition. Hunting common, defenseless rabbits can become boring and pose no challenge in the long run.

Melissa - Nah, sorry Melissa, I do not agree, the Predator immediately took out Billy who only had a Bowie knife on that bridge to defend himself. You heard Billy scream almost immediately as Dutch was carrying one of his men along with help from the native woman in trying to get to the "Choppa" LOL. Then the Predator was immediately upon them killing his wounded soldier and then wounding him has he fired back at it. The Predator with that long protruding double blade immediately knifed Billy like he did to Apollo Creed earlier. LOL But in the fight with the Samurai who is a much more experienced fighter with a well crafted powerful sword, it had a real battle.
I admire the Predators sense of honor, like they will kill without question, unless your injured, ill, pregnant, too young. But if your willing to stand up to them, they will show you the same level of respect. If you stand up to them with a sword, they will lower themselves to your level and fight you fairly. And should you win you are rewarded with respect as a warrior, and should you fall, your still honored on some level by becoming a trophy, and while that seems terrible, it does show that this was an opponent that posed a threat and a challenge and will be remembered.

this particular predator did respect and honor the code. he was willing to battle to the death on an equal plain field with his opponent. that shows respect.
The leader of this particular hunting party, the Berserker, later showed that he has no regard for the Predator Honour code when he faced the Crucified Predator in solo combat, using his Plasma caster to disorient him before decapitating him.
I like how this is the first Predator vs Human fight scene. In Predator Billy stood his ground but was killed off screen, Predator 2 King Willy also challenged the Predator and was also killed off screen. Finally they actually show an on screen fight scene.

There's just something so blissfully amazing here. A bad blood predator, a killer amongst their own kind and dishonored by his choices facing a yakuza, a criminal, fighting a proper duel. Through the whole movie the sense these predator's are different, dishonorable hunters only hunting for the sport and the game and nothing more, until we get to this moment, where honor is all that matters. It's amazing to look at it and see these two equal one another in a fair fight, death's that were earned and likely something that truly redeemed this predator and yakuza.
it just comes to show. even if there bad guys in the world. some in heart still have some honor in them. this movie is a example that some are not 100% evil.
My favorite scene from this kick-ass movie! The original Predator will always be the best but this movie is veryyy good and extremely underrated! Love when Hanzo stops running and decides its time to man up one on one. He knows the predator is trailing them and most likely everyone will die so he gives the others a chance by standing up to him. Gotta love the sense of honor that the predator has, as cruel and strong it is. And the setting of the scene with all the tall grass gives a strong vibe of one of the duels in the old duel movies. Quite a well done scene this is.
It's a show of dominance and to see who is the superior warrior. The predator let him get up to score honor points which would make his trophies worth more as it would have been won through fair 1v1 combat and not through trickery. However if you see the movies the predator almost always dies because of human survival instincts and tricks.

I know a lot of people are mixed on this movie, but I really love it. It had a lot of call backs to the original while also adding something new and building on it. The characters are fine, but if they were more iconic, I would even go as far to say this is the "Aliens" of the predator series.

I can see just how inspired the motions are by more of a Kendo match than traditional duel. Which makes sense, because modern Japanese find Kendo extremely popular and the few that master kenjutsu commit their lives to it, so a Yakuza fighting with a sword using Kendo techniques makes plausible sense and explains why the Yakuza is getting struck in the back after his attacks, because they don't train to strike their opponents back as they run by, but come out of range and turn around for the next exchange.
The eye for an eye technique. The only way to get to the enemy with a swift strike of death is to make your self vulnerable. In this instance, he payed with his life for the life of the predator. True samurai art.
I always was interested that Billy was apparently still no match for the predator. He seemed to be in touch with nature and uniquely with the predator in the way Billy chose a sword as his weapon against the predator, and how he cut himself down the chest as if to draw the Predator in. I was disappointed he didn't do some damage to the Predator. But then again maybe that would have been cliche.

Wish they did this kinda thing more often in movies. In Red Sun, a Charles Bronson flick a Samurai fought an American Indian. Movie was based in the 1880's I think. Really kool to see different cultures go up against each other.
Though not literally, Hanzo avenged Billy Sole and King Willie in spirit by not only having his melee fight shown, but was able to defeat a Predator head on in a fair fight with human weaponry. Dutch, Royce/Isabelle, and Naru all used traps and cunning to their advantage, Harrigan was able to severely weaken it with conventional firepower before defeating it with its own weapons, and Nikolai used a mine in a suicide maneuver, but Hanzo actually managed to hold his ground against a full-strength Predator armed with only a katana.
LOVE this reference Billy and King Willie would be proud. Billy, and King Willie both knew the predator was around before anyone else. Both knew they were being stalked and when confronted the predator they drew out weapons. Billy his machete and Willie his cane sword. Finally we got to see a battle like this
I've always been curious if the predators admired the ancient samurai's or ninjitsu warriors. Because all of the predators melee weapons and some thrown weapons look like weapons from asia. Throwing stars, wrist attached blades, spears, nets etc. I guess predators found their match. If humanity wants to defeat the predators, train an army of samurai warriors or ninjitsu artists then send them after the predators. Samurai will fight up front, ninja's will hunt the predators like they hunted humans. A few poisonous darts and shurikens should do the trick. They call ninjitsu the art of invisibility.
I was thinking that as well when I first saw this movie and remembered that the Japanese took a lot of care and really focused on quality when crafting their katanas.
Coolest scene in the movie. Both sides got their honourable and fair trade counts. I guess this is why the Predators like to hunt us, for the ones who dare challenge them and offer a good fight (I can think of some knights, vikings, samurai, etc in the past, even modern soldiers maybe in different way than pure one-on-one sword fight).

With the success of Prey, I am now hoping to see a Predator film during the Age of Samurai in Japan.
Most likely representing a Sengo Muramasa era blade (yōtō "cursed katana") Muromachi Period 14th through 16th centuries.
Moreover this may be the Fujiwara Masazane sword called Inoshishi-giri "boar-slayer", as Masazane was a disciple of Muramasa.
Muramasa blades have to draw blood before they can be returned to the scabbard, even to the point of forcing its wielder to wound himself or commit suicide in the process. Thus, it is thought of as a demonic cursed blade that creates uncontrollable bloodletting to those who wield it.

I know a lot of people are mixed on this movie, but I really love it. It had a lot of call backs to the original while also adding something new and building on it. The characters are fine, but if they were more iconic, I would even go as far to say this is the "Aliens" of the predator series.

I can see just how inspired the motions are by more of a Kendo match than traditional duel. Which makes sense, because modern Japanese find Kendo extremely popular and the few that master kenjutsu commit their lives to it, so a Yakuza fighting with a sword using Kendo techniques makes plausible sense and explains why the Yakuza is getting struck in the back after his attacks, because they don't train to strike their opponents back as they run by, but come out of range and turn around for the next exchange.

I always was interested that Billy was apparently still no match for the predator. He seemed to be in touch with nature and uniquely with the predator in the way Billy chose a sword as his weapon against the predator, and how he cut himself down the chest as if to draw the Predator in. I was disappointed he didn't do some damage to the Predator. But then again maybe that would have been cliche.
Michael Zaloom but that predator that killed Billy didn't fight him. He was probably cloaked and just killed him. It doesn't really show.
Yeh the predator wanted Dutch more so it chose a dishonourable way to kill billy which pissed me off love that film would of been good if they had an intense duel where billy weakened the predators

Wish they did this kinda thing more often in movies. In Red Sun, a Charles Bronson flick a Samurai fought an American Indian. Movie was based in the 1880's I think. Really kool to see different cultures go up against each other.
Though not literally, Hanzo avenged Billy Sole and King Willie in spirit by not only having his melee fight shown, but was able to defeat a Predator head on in a fair fight with human weaponry. Dutch, Royce/Isabelle, and Naru all used traps and cunning to their advantage, Harrigan was able to severely weaken it with conventional firepower before defeating it with its own weapons, and Nikolai used a mine in a suicide maneuver, but Hanzo actually managed to hold his ground against a full-strength Predator armed with only a katana.
One of my all time favorite scenes in movie history.

Billy, and King Willie both knew the predator was around before anyone else. Both knew they were being stalked and when confronted the predator they drew out weapons. Billy his machete and Willie his cane sword.

I've always been curious if the predators admired the ancient samurai's or ninjitsu warriors. Because all of the predators melee weapons and some thrown weapons look like weapons from asia. Throwing stars, wrist attached blades, spears, nets etc. I guess predators found their match. If humanity wants to defeat the predators, train an army of samurai warriors or ninjitsu artists then send them after the predators. Samurai will fight up front, ninja's will hunt the predators like they hunted humans. A few poisonous darts and shurikens should do the trick. They call ninjitsu the art of invisibility.

I was thinking that as well when I first saw this movie and remembered that the Japanese took a lot of care and really focused on quality when crafting their katanas.
Its a modern Katana. Modern technology allows us to make stronger swords than those made hundreds of years ago.
Coolest scene in the movie. Both sides got their honourable and fair trade counts. I guess this is why the Predators like to hunt us, for the ones who dare challenge them and offer a good fight (I can think of some knights, vikings, samurai, etc in the past, even modern soldiers maybe in different way than pure one-on-one sword fight).

By far one of my favourite fights in the Predator franchise
I’m shocked this bad blood predator even chose to duel this guy. Cause bad bloods are all about hunting and no honor and respect.
I love this part not only because it's badass. But also as a compensation to us from the 1st predator movie who failed us to deliver Billy's one on one fight with the predator.
