I just replaced my wife's battery today in her 2017 Cadillac XT5 and when the new battery was installed everything was saved and worked great. I did not have to hook up another battery with jumper cables. There must be a backup battery or something.

Wow! I'd imagine some of the components may have their own battery, but the fact that no settings were lost actually surprises me a bit. How did the overall install go for you? Hopefully my video was somewhat helpful.

Unfortunately, my radio hasn't been working properly since then. I just simply replaced it. It works once and then it doesn't. Can you help?

They use nonvolatile memory, I just replaced ours, without keeping it powered and the only thing it did wrong was losing the state of the rear hatch, once closed it is all normal now. 10-02-2023 Ron W4BIN

You say the batteries are connected in series. If you had them in series there would be 24 volts nominal and you would really screw up! You have them connected in parallel + to + and - to -) and voltage averages out to 12v nominal.
