We are on our second XT5, we had a 2017, now a 2019. We have never observed any of the negative issues mentioned. The key fobs look new, the inside door pulls did not delaminate, the Halogens seem to work fine. They sell LED upgrades for like $150 if you do not like the color range of the halogens. Our 2019 model has LED headlights. Once you have learned the shift pattern/sequence it is seamless, just pull back, no brainer, no issue. We love ours. My wife is 5'-8" I am 6'-3" so I never noticed the seat issues. Maybe they need a little person warning sticker? Contact Randy Newman.
@@johnlabry325 Nothing at all. My wife's only ever complaint about the car was that she wanted dedicated fog lights. Both model years seemed identical; they were both quiet and powerful with decent gas mileage. We did not own the 2017 long enough to do more than one set of front brakes and one set of tires. No warranty or failure issues.
On a long distance trip this is the best SUV I've ever driven in my life Tulsa Oklahoma to Yuma Arizona in one day and I wasn't that tired it's a dream to drive this SUV in the open highway That's my opinion anyway
I love my XT5! I have no issues with headlights, I can see fine. People don't like spending $200 + on fixed LED headlights. Some of them are crazy expensive.
My 2019 xt5 does have LED headlights! Agreed on the shifter but once you get used to it, it’s fine, the seat height adjustment is fine for me but I’m 6’1, so if your short, don’t buy the car, and yes you are being too picky about the materials. I clean my car weekly and haven’t had any issues with any materials.
They have both leather and silicone covers for the fobs. We use one of each to make sure we always have the right one for our driver settings 😊 The only feature I wish our 2018 had would be a sport setting for only the suspension to tighten up the ride and handling a bit - without engaging AWD and increasing the engine rev and response settings. Guessing that could be done although prolly only with a factory mod to the driver settings software.
Hey just got an x5 for my wife and I drove it.. and to switch from manual back to drive all you have to do is pull down again.. same way you went from drive to manual. Doesn't make sense but anyways hope that helps. Great video.

It’s also getting extremely hard to find any faults with these new cars regardless if they’re a top of the line Cadillac or an everyday Chevy. It’s really hard to complain about anything anymore. Had minor lift damage at home. Everything else worked fine..Repair shop, & ins. comp. failed me; settled (didn't want to)... SRX was in stellar condition, no prior problems, still operable, very low mileage..Looked at the 2024 Premium XT5 twice. In comparison, for me; this vehicle disappoints with its smaller size, & overall manufactured cheaper look & feel. So sad...Thanks for the insight!
Ok im 5”6 the reason im buying this one is that i sit to low in my Car and the lights are almost eyelevel. So am i still to short? Im in a Cadillac cts
First off you're reviewing a base model XT5. You're not going to get the better headlamps. There's nooo way you're changing those bulbs just by turning those cap things. The bumper has to come off and you need to remove the headlamps. I put xenons in my xt5 after I bought it. HUGE PAIN to change them out. Also from manual mode you just shift down. back to drive. That simple
John H This was a loaner car, I no choice. The car is still like $60k tho so I think the halogen bulb criticism was fair. You’re talking about going from halogen to xenon which would require the addition of a ballast and other pieces, so yes, you would have to remove the headlamp. BUT, you could have just bought a similar size halogen bulb with higher temperature brightness such as 5000-6000k and then all you would have had to do is replace the bulb through that opening. And yeah I figured that out after making the video! 😂 Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
@@SaraiGarage My car was a loaner too. I also work for Cadillac. The base XT5 is 41k. This is defiantly a luxury model which is the base model. The premium is 65k. Those have leds. Unfortunately there's no way you can change a bulb without pulling the bumper off. I know this because i quote these bulbs everyday.
John H Guess I was wrong then 🤷🏾♂️ I’ve never actually changed the bulbs, I just saw the opening for the headlights there and assumed it was an easy job. Usually if you have to remove the headlight to change the bulb, the access door won’t be that easy to open. Next time I get a loaner I’ll look at it closer haha But regardless if it’s luxury, premium, or platinum, for a premium brand, I still thought it was cheap of them to throw in halogens at any price point when non-luxury brands are giving LED as standard
@@SaraiGarage Your're definitely right about the bulbs. The sticker price on mine is 41k Only options it has are the bose speakers power lift gate and the rear parking assist. The halogen bulbs in it are complete hot garbage. After a week of owning it I had one of my techs change them out. Thanks for the reply.

I hate the auto stop-start on our 2019 xt5, but I found out when you come to a traffic light just put it in manual and it shuts that feature off. Excellent
I HATE the auto stop. I shift mine in neutral when I come to a stop. Then drop it down in drive. I hope to be trading for another Tahoe soon. But I'll miss the gas mileage.
Took some focus and practice to only grip the shifter knob like a cup, otherwise having your thumb on top made it too easy to hit the park button on top when shifting from R to D after backing up. A thin slider (spring loaded) thumb cover over the P button would be handy after safer.
My wife is probably shorter than you and she can adjust the seat properly to drive it. Use the up and forward position switch. Then use the se1 or set 2 to program it. I agree with the cheap rubber covering on the keyfobe though. You have probably figured it out by now. . . Just wanna say, this is the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. I know about the steering assist code you get with the thermostat, don't run out and fix it right away, reset the code or disconnect the neg terminal and allow it to reset. It hasn't come back (so far) and my heat gauge is working properly again without the fan racing. Funky tech = funky problems, some often can be ignored.

I agree with the shifter and moving it to manual to drive, also do not like having to move the shifter over to the left when putting it into reverse. Also didn't feel secure out on the road without a spare tire. The pump with sealant might be OK , but you are never sure of what kind of tire damage you might have.
Have my XT5 PL for about a month. Only complaints are the cup holders are to small. The seat doesnt recline as much as I'd like it to. The electronic shifter took time to get use to. You must be fully stopped before you press park. Even at a half mph and push it, Its a very violent engagement Other than that the car rocks

I agree with all your hates on the XT5. I have one as well and hate most that Cadillac didn't put LED's on ALL their Cadillac's headlights! You're right, even the El Cheapo Toyota Carolla has them! The XT5 definitely is a nice vehicle but Caddy needs to step up their game!
I bought a leather cover for $20 with the emblems. I do hate the halogen lights. I am replacing the headlights. I do hate the auto stop but I love my XT5 and miss my ATS TURBO
What I don’t like is that my rims have been replaced once, at 27k miles because they were peeling, and now at 55k miles, the new rims are peeling as well. 🤦🏼♀️ I love Cadillac, but from all my searching online, this has been an issue for awhile and they have not fixed it.
I just got my first Cadillac XT5 n I agree with everything except the lights mines is white not yellow my truck a 2017 I do wish the seat went up higher

Although the headlights are halogen, they are in a projector lens fixture which provides a much better focused beam with less light scatter than a typical LED headlight. Putting LED bulbs in a projector lens actually provides worse visibility. Halogen bulbs more yellowish color will provide better visibility during foggy conditions. LED's are good but they are not the end-all, be all of illumination.
Led was option... got the platinum. I got everything rear tvs, auto park. Options you pay for. BTW just pull back on the shift you are going forward. Go back it goes from M to D
I am not being rude, but I think before doing the review you should have read the manual, or asked the dealer about how to use the shifter from m back to d. I know a lot of the younger generation doesn't read their manuals that come with the new vehicle. Just a hint next time you get a new suv. I love mine I’m 5’9” and I bought it because it has a lot of room in it the Audi’s were fine as long as no one sat behind me but I have kids. The XT5 leaves them plenty of space behind me. I will agree on the fob, mine looks like garbage. My silicone is trashed, anyone found a reasonably priced way to replace that? I don’t want to buy a new fob!
skill freak If it was my money, I’d buy a Lexus RX350 F Sport over this. Looks more aggressive, will last 3x longer without any major problems, you can have fun without worrying about breaking something, etc. I value reliability over everything else though. Constantly fixing a car yourself or taking it to the dealer doesn’t feel “luxury” to me. The A-Spec Acura MDX is pretty cool too.

Ryan Nerios yes! BMW’s are one of my least favorite vehicles! They are engineered horribly, built with cheap parts, and charge astronomical prices for parts and labor. At least with Cadillac repairs are affordable as many parts are Chevy parts!
I hate the auto-stop that I have on the 2020 model. You can disengage it, but it's temporary and reengages when the engine shuts off and restarts. I don't understand why Cadillac doesn't offer a permanent "fix".
Right there with you I also hate the auto stop on this car if I had one huge complaint it would be that God it's annoying sometimes The fact that you can't easily deactivate that was really stupid also
My girlfriend complained that the seat wasn't comfortable for her back on the trip that we took just a side note I don't Cadillac watches this cuz he's pretty much complaining about everything that I've complained about barring the key fob 😅
How can you do a hate video on something you don't really know about? Read the manual and you will understand how the shifter works. Plus, There is an optional LED headlight upgrade. My XT5 has LED headlights.
I make two videos on each car I review: a 5 things I hate AND 5 thing I love video. It should not be an option on a luxury vehicle when it is standard on economy cars like Hyundai's and Toyota's was the point. You paid extra for it when most people get it for free from other brands. The shifter is still impractical compared to german rivals.

You pointed out superficial issues with this Cadillac. Those cheapie things on the outside is just how things are in the outside. Parts made of plastic that break and wear down. There is a reason Cadillacs are horrible at resale. They are cheaply made. Your points are trivial to what is under the hood and beneath the frame. If you plan to drive it 4 years or a lease, you should not have problems. But after 5 years everything will start to break.
Overall, I agree with what you said. It's no honda or toyota by any means. BUT, don't forget that this is American and most parts are just chevy parts. Chevy parts are cheap as it is and OEM parts can easily be found online for 50% off retail if not more. Not only this, service can be done at chevy dealers as well, drastically reducing labor costs. If you want to save even more, the designs and overall layout is very simple and easy to work on. Step-by-Step videos for everything are also all over the place on youtube and forums from guys like me. I've done some serious work on my AMG motor and this would be a dream to work on compared to that nightmare! haha I agree it's not up to the standards of Toyota and Honda, but for what it is man, I still have to say it's a complete steal and a great car. It should go +200K miles with maybe one repair a year after 5 years. As far as luxury cars go, it's still a much better long term option than anything from Germany. Thanks for the comment though! You made some good points and it was nice talking to someone that has experience! -- ALSO, forgot to mention, I didn't talk about those long-term reliability issues yet because these cars are too new and I didn't want to just superficially judge this car based off of the SRX! I thought it would be unfair. Time will tell if this will follow a similar path or be even better!

I just thought the issues you mention are trivial compared to the major issues with GM/Chevy/Cadillac. I love Cadillacs in the way they look. I love the interiors and exteriors. I have wanted so much to buy one but its not a good long term investment because I keep cars over 10 years. My local Caddy dealer has a used 2017 Xt5 on the lot with only 22k miles for 23k. That is the sticker price which I am sure they would go lower. Used cars have huge mark ups but it goes to show even Caddy dealers know how much they depreciate. In 2 years almost 50% of the purchase price is gone. They depreciate the fastest of any car on the road. Having said all of that. I still think its a beautiful car

We got a 97 4Runner with 298k and a 2007 Tundra with over 300k. Both were but with less than 20k miles! There are so many XT4s and XT5s on used car lots. People buy them and sadly soon realize they are crap. Among other things, lots of electronic problems. Finally, look who their newest ads are aimed at - that tells you a lot.
why are you dropping your key fob it should be in your pocket walk up to the vehicle push the button on the door handle get in push start put in drive push the gas ...it seems like you don't like change
i have an XT5 one key fob is like new the other is like you described as the rubber coming off, I went on amazon and searched for xt5 key fob case or cover they are inexpensive they snap around your key fob and protects it and there are many choices
@@RufusTheRadical not really. This is business. When you make or sell a product, you have to choose a demographic ahead of time. You don’t just make something random and hope it sells. Brands will say things like “the XT5 is for affluent families looking for a crossover with space and higher end fittings” etc. But in reality, they track everything. From income of buyers to age to gender. If you look at the data, women are more than twice as likely to prefer crossovers over men. So logically speaking, when designing a crossover, you should place extra attention to their needs and demands. Women are also on avg much shorter than men. Which was really my main point. I thought the seat should go higher to help out shorter women. In bigger vehicles like the Escalade they kind of make up for this by giving adjustable pedals for the accelerator and brakes. It’s been like 2 years since I made this but I don’t think the XT5 has similar feature. Anyways, this is already too long of a response. I really love the XT5. I would drive one myself. But they should have made the seat go higher. End of story. My opinions were strictly from a business perspective. I don’t care about gendering cars lol
I hate my XT5 I have had it 6 months and it has been in the shop 4 times. Got stuck in cruise control. Finally had to shut the car off to get it to stop! It's a horrible car!!!
Things I Hate Effin Auto Stop Harsh Ride, not as bad with the 18" wheels OnStar, hard to remove The Cylinder Disabling Infotainment System Interaction Paddle Shifters, and the Manual Control. The STS did it better with the Stick I would prefer a Column Shift Lever
Cylinder Deactivation is the work of the Devil haha Terrible on the components and even worse for the mind, having to turn it off every single time is beyond annoying
I agree with what you said. My issue is the navigation system. The map we got on our 2017 is at least five years out of date when we got the car. You can tell when you are traveling and the navigation system says that you are in the middle of a field when the newish road is 200 feet away. There are a bunch of little errors on it like roads that don’t meet. Our 2012 Toyota Venza had a better map system
4:40 my sentiments exactly, but on the new $50,000 Blazers. LED everything EXEPT brake & turn signals in rear; turns in front. I know the decision was made to do that deliberately because the vehicle was all new for 2019. What new vehicle today comes with incandescent brake lights, a Nissan Versa? ONLY General Motors 😣
women 5'-6" is you max......roflmo....my wife has hers and she is 5'-8" Im 6'-7" and don't give two shits about short people. Tall people have much more challenge with things in vehicle fitting. And material on a steering will gets a shit ton more wear than a internal door grab.

The higher trim ones come with LED! This one was just a low trim! I still do find it ridiculous that ANY trim comes with halogens. If you are buying new, I believe they have addressed this in the refreshed models and now all models regardless of trim come with LED. Might have to double check google to be sure tho!
To shift to dirve mode, just need to pull back the handle again , it will shift from "M" to "D" , Not big deal, just get use to it , it's fine.

Use mod podge on the key fob to eliminate fading. Worked great on mine 👍🏽
Shouldn't have to do that if the manufacturer chose more appropriate (durable) material to begin with.
I didn't know it has halogen bulbs, on my xt5 2017 LED. May be it depends on package? Seat - my wife 4.9 feet and doesn't have a troubles with view

I only find out in 3 years of driving, that my Chrysler 300 has manual shifting. You are really smart this days.

I hate the auto stop-start on our 2019 xt5, but I found out when you come to a traffic light just put it in manual and it shuts that feature off. Excellent

I HATE the auto stop. I shift mine in neutral when I come to a stop. Then drop it down in drive. I hope to be trading for another Tahoe soon. But I'll miss the gas mileage.
It doesn't have the button to turn that off. My 16 CTS has the potion to turn it off. You have to turn it off everytime you get in
Took some focus and practice to only grip the shifter knob like a cup, otherwise having your thumb on top made it too easy to hit the park button on top when shifting from R to D after backing up. A thin slider (spring loaded) thumb cover over the P button would be handy after safer.
Our new CPO 2018 has the deactivate button thankfully.
If these are the main issues with any vehicle, buy it..these complaints were trivial! Geez!

My wife is probably shorter than you and she can adjust the seat properly to drive it. Use the up and forward position switch. Then use the se1 or set 2 to program it. I agree with the cheap rubber covering on the keyfobe though. You have probably figured it out by now. . . Just wanna say, this is the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. I know about the steering assist code you get with the thermostat, don't run out and fix it right away, reset the code or disconnect the neg terminal and allow it to reset. It hasn't come back (so far) and my heat gauge is working properly again without the fan racing. Funky tech = funky problems, some often can be ignored.

I agree with the shifter and moving it to manual to drive, also do not like having to move the shifter over to the left when putting it into reverse. Also didn't feel secure out on the road without a spare tire. The pump with sealant might be OK , but you are never sure of what kind of tire damage you might have.

I agree with all your hates on the XT5. I have one as well and hate most that Cadillac didn't put LED's on ALL their Cadillac's headlights! You're right, even the El Cheapo Toyota Carolla has them! The XT5 definitely is a nice vehicle but Caddy needs to step up their game!

I bought a leather cover for $20 with the emblems. I do hate the halogen lights. I am replacing the headlights. I do hate the auto stop but I love my XT5 and miss my ATS TURBO
What I don’t like is that my rims have been replaced once, at 27k miles because they were peeling, and now at 55k miles, the new rims are peeling as well. 🤦🏼♀️ I love Cadillac, but from all my searching online, this has been an issue for awhile and they have not fixed it.

It has to do with the frame rate of what ever he's using to record the video.

Although the headlights are halogen, they are in a projector lens fixture which provides a much better focused beam with less light scatter than a typical LED headlight. Putting LED bulbs in a projector lens actually provides worse visibility. Halogen bulbs more yellowish color will provide better visibility during foggy conditions. LED's are good but they are not the end-all, be all of illumination.
I switched to led headlights on my '15 ATS.....the best $75 I ever spent!
As soon as you pulled the shifter towards you (back) it went back to drive. You solved your own problem.

Led was option... got the platinum. I got everything rear tvs, auto park. Options you pay for. BTW just pull back on the shift you are going forward. Go back it goes from M to D

I know a lot of the younger generation doesn't read their manuals that come with the new vehicle. Just a hint next time you get a new suv. I love mine I’m 5’9” and I bought it because it has a lot of room in it the Audi’s were fine as long as no one sat behind me but I have kids. The XT5 leaves them plenty of space behind me. I will agree on the fob, mine looks like garbage. My silicone is trashed, anyone found a reasonably priced way to replace that? I don’t want to buy a new fob!

skill freak If it was my money, I’d buy a Lexus RX350 F Sport over this. Looks more aggressive, will last 3x longer without any major problems, you can have fun without worrying about breaking something, etc.
I value reliability over everything else though. Constantly fixing a car yourself or taking it to the dealer doesn’t feel “luxury” to me.
The A-Spec Acura MDX is pretty cool too.

Ryan Nerios yes! BMW’s are one of my least favorite vehicles! They are engineered horribly, built with cheap parts, and charge astronomical prices for parts and labor. At least with Cadillac repairs are affordable as many parts are Chevy parts!

I hate the auto-stop that I have on the 2020 model. You can disengage it, but it's temporary and reengages when the engine shuts off and restarts. I don't understand why Cadillac doesn't offer a permanent "fix".
Right there with you I also hate the auto stop on this car if I had one huge complaint it would be that God it's annoying sometimes The fact that you can't easily deactivate that was really stupid also
My girlfriend complained that the seat wasn't comfortable for her back on the trip that we took just a side note I don't Cadillac watches this cuz he's pretty much complaining about everything that I've complained about barring the key fob 😅

Read the manual and you will understand how the shifter works.
Plus, There is an optional LED headlight upgrade. My XT5 has LED headlights.
I make two videos on each car I review: a 5 things I hate AND 5 thing I love video.
It should not be an option on a luxury vehicle when it is standard on economy cars like Hyundai's and Toyota's was the point. You paid extra for it when most people get it for free from other brands.
The shifter is still impractical compared to german rivals.

Emre - Yes but this one starts ripping and peeling and then never stops. A scratch or dent is one thing. A never ending peeling problem is another. It feels super gross when it starts peeling too!
@@SaraiGarage I have an 18 premium luxury,my shifter has reverse to the left.bothered me for 1 days.I like it now.if someone tries to steal it maybe they won't figure it out.And going from manual back to drive I just judge the level up.love it.As far as the fob,I have a leather cover & a nice clip to keep it on my belt loop at all times.I have the 20" wheels so the ride is firm as are the seats.I live in Florida so the roads r good but u feel the fitness over speed bumps.
You pointed out superficial issues with this Cadillac. Those cheapie things on the outside is just how things are in the outside. Parts made of plastic that break and wear down. There is a reason Cadillacs are horrible at resale. They are cheaply made. Your points are trivial to what is under the hood and beneath the frame. If you plan to drive it 4 years or a lease, you should not have problems. But after 5 years everything will start to break.
Overall, I agree with what you said. It's no honda or toyota by any means. BUT, don't forget that this is American and most parts are just chevy parts. Chevy parts are cheap as it is and OEM parts can easily be found online for 50% off retail if not more. Not only this, service can be done at chevy dealers as well, drastically reducing labor costs. If you want to save even more, the designs and overall layout is very simple and easy to work on. Step-by-Step videos for everything are also all over the place on youtube and forums from guys like me. I've done some serious work on my AMG motor and this would be a dream to work on compared to that nightmare! haha I agree it's not up to the standards of Toyota and Honda, but for what it is man, I still have to say it's a complete steal and a great car. It should go +200K miles with maybe one repair a year after 5 years. As far as luxury cars go, it's still a much better long term option than anything from Germany. Thanks for the comment though! You made some good points and it was nice talking to someone that has experience!
-- ALSO, forgot to mention, I didn't talk about those long-term reliability issues yet because these cars are too new and I didn't want to just superficially judge this car based off of the SRX! I thought it would be unfair. Time will tell if this will follow a similar path or be even better!

I just thought the issues you mention are trivial compared to the major issues with GM/Chevy/Cadillac. I love Cadillacs in the way they look. I love the interiors and exteriors. I have wanted so much to buy one but its not a good long term investment because I keep cars over 10 years. My local Caddy dealer has a used 2017 Xt5 on the lot with only 22k miles for 23k. That is the sticker price which I am sure they would go lower. Used cars have huge mark ups but it goes to show even Caddy dealers know how much they depreciate. In 2 years almost 50% of the purchase price is gone. They depreciate the fastest of any car on the road. Having said all of that. I still think its a beautiful car

We got a 97 4Runner with 298k and a 2007 Tundra with over 300k. Both were but with less than 20k miles! There are so many XT4s and XT5s on used car lots. People buy them and sadly soon realize they are crap. Among other things, lots of electronic problems. Finally, look who their newest ads are aimed at - that tells you a lot.

i have an XT5 one key fob is like new the other is like you described as the rubber coming off, I went on amazon and searched for xt5 key fob case or cover they are inexpensive they snap around your key fob and protects it and there are many choices

You don’t just make something random and hope it sells.
Brands will say things like “the XT5 is for affluent families looking for a crossover with space and higher end fittings” etc.
But in reality, they track everything. From income of buyers to age to gender.
If you look at the data, women are more than twice as likely to prefer crossovers over men. So logically speaking, when designing a crossover, you should place extra attention to their needs and demands.
Women are also on avg much shorter than men. Which was really my main point. I thought the seat should go higher to help out shorter women.
In bigger vehicles like the Escalade they kind of make up for this by giving adjustable pedals for the accelerator and brakes. It’s been like 2 years since I made this but I don’t think the XT5 has similar feature.
Anyways, this is already too long of a response. I really love the XT5. I would drive one myself. But they should have made the seat go higher. End of story. My opinions were strictly from a business perspective. I don’t care about gendering cars lol
I hate my XT5 I have had it 6 months and it has been in the shop 4 times. Got stuck in cruise control. Finally had to shut the car off to get it to stop! It's a horrible car!!!

I agree with what you said. My issue is the navigation system. The map we got on our 2017 is at least five years out of date when we got the car. You can tell when you are traveling and the navigation system says that you are in the middle of a field when the newish road is 200 feet away. There are a bunch of little errors on it like roads that don’t meet. Our 2012 Toyota Venza had a better map system
At least it comes standard with Apple CarPlay so you can always have up to date Apple or Google maps for free!
About the unpainted cheap plastic on the bottom of the car exterior? For 50k i would expect same paint like the body like jeep cherokee

I know the decision was made to do that deliberately because the vehicle was all new for 2019. What new vehicle today comes with incandescent brake lights, a Nissan Versa? ONLY General Motors 😣

This one was just a low trim! I still do find it ridiculous that ANY trim comes with halogens.
If you are buying new, I believe they have addressed this in the refreshed models and now all models regardless of trim come with LED.
Might have to double check google to be sure tho!
