Its been a month since i last watched an update on the war and i am indeed surprised by how much the russians advanced in a month. In the terms of this war this is a lot. Also they have 3 promising breacheads. But it is sad to see that the kharkov operation is still a faliure, i mean it did made ukranians pull out units from donetsk but volvchanks is still not Russian even after 5 months. I think it is impossible for the sovereign Russians to base their tactical actions on discussions among their enemies. This is an exaggeration of their importance.

The Russians have been perhaps inadvertently smart in making it so that actually any Ukrainian advance is only really a PR victory as their strength is so spent to some extent any Ukrainian advance is because the Russians have allowed it. Indeed if Russians fought harder they could stop Ukrainian advances in say Vovchansk but as Dima eludes to, its hardly worth worrying about Vovchansk given its condition while there are still several other hot areas. Long term its actually better for Ukraine to do organized retreats and assume strictly defensive positions as they could rely more on solid infrastructure of which there'd still be countless buildings etc. in Ukrainian territory to use as defence. Of course they are now gradually wearing down those possibilities also.
