    Eric Schmitt such a great host, rare u hardly see a billionaire with so much humor.
    2- If philanthropy fits into any category of Nobel Sal deserves.
    3- you don't need bag full of money to learn, just need to have a broadband plan and a laptop and u can rock the world.

    I have to join the group of people who are of the opinion that the interviewer is treating Mr. Khan very rudely.. He is constantly cutting off his sentences and not letting him finish his thoughts on the question HE has askes and all the people in the auditory (including us viewers) are interested in. Moreover he emphezises Google's impact on Khan's whole journey and how impossible it all would be if Google didn't found them. Even if this is the case there is no need to repeat the same thing over and over again. I believe we all understood that Mr. Khan was invited to GOOGLE TALKS and was greatly supported by the company (as mentioned at the beginning). So please Google, do us a favor and instruct your Google Talk interviewers to set the spotlight on the GUEST instead of on YOUR accomplishments. Thank you!
    Going to read Khan's book soon. He definitely is a rolemodel in the education sphere of today.

      You know? I totally agree with you, haha. This guy was cutting Sal off constantly. The reiterated propaganda of Google was a nuisance. I mean, we get it that it was Google but hey, Google isn't for not-for-profit and instead Khan Academy is. So, yes. I wish, they were a little more modest.

    Salman Khan,
    You are successful because you have taken the most valuable thing you have, and given it to us. Become more valuable, ask google who is as free as you are to forever put a link to the khan website on their web page. If google and khan truly care about giving the world free education you both will do it, and you will both win. As a result we all will win

    I didnt feel distracted by Eric Schmidts demeanor, thought his questions were well chosen, clever, sincerly interested and felt that they got the conversation rolling at a good speed. If you wanted to watch sal khan repeat the same talk he has held several times before go watch that, theres plenty of that on yt. If you think asking questions during an discussion is rude, thats a problem. Also the "he is rich yadda yadda yadda" comments are just petty.

      Picked the words right out of my mouth. In contrast to news anchors, who BTW are always trying to oversimplify and sensationalize things, Shmidt here is asking really relevant questions

    • @diedonner299
      @diedonner299 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very few people know how to interpret nuance and sarcasm today. I find this deficiency particularly emphasised in the Pacific Northwest for some reason. Eric Schmidt has an east coast demeanour wrapped around his attempts at humor, and people don’t know how to handle that.

  • @Ghost572
    @Ghost572 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Totally agree, I had a few learning difficulties when I was smaller and it has a knock on effect in what type of education you get. That also applies to many other people. The schools teach out of books and the teachers don't really ever think about how to approach diffrent areas of there subject there meant to know any diffrently. I'm studying now and I'm doing really well, says alot about the school system, atleast from my point of view.

    This university style does already exist absolutely successfully: Problem Based Learning System at Maastricht University. Never learned as much as during my undergrad there!!!!
    implemented by the former Dutch minister of educational affairs. This is the best system, seriously! and I still don't get why other uni implements it....

    kahn academy should eventually provide an accredited college education
    that would be awesome
    you could study more than one subject/major instead of taking just one where you're forced to take classes you aren't all that interested in

    Salman Khan says that teaching was viewed as a performance art and that's where the value is - but he uses this performance art /pedagogy in everything he does. for example I wonder how successful he would be if he spoke in a thick Bangalore accent? And he speaks about and around cultural capital all the time but never interrogates its origins...

    There should be the option to separate education and credentialing. People should be allowed to learn using whatever methods they choose and then be allowed to gain a nationally recognized credential after taking an in person, standardized exam. People shouldn't have to mortgage their futures in the form of taxes and student loans to consume education that could be obtained in more time and cost efficient ways.

  • @alfredcrossable
    @alfredcrossable 11 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    You definitely DON'T NEED TO DO THAT!!! Let Khan continue his work but KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF IT!!! Politicians are not to be trusted with educating anyone or with the regulation of that area of life. Period.

    • @Muhammad-me4du
      @Muhammad-me4du 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even though this comment may be 7 years old, I have to say that I agree. Politicians know nothing about 21st century classrooms and do a terrible job regulating the education system.

  • @IrregularPineapples

    It's a non profit organization. "Buying" Khan Academy is out of the question. Google supports Khan, but isn't the only one. The Gates foundation is also a huge supporter. Supporters in terms of money, that is.

    The way the school system is set up right now is in a way where future "cashiers" and burger flippers are slowly weeded out. Instead of helping these kids, the school system chews them up and spits them out. Coming from a poor neighborhood, this theory is relevant x10.

    I have to watch 15 lectures a week and do all the adjoining homework which is graded on Khan for Intermediate Algebra at University of Alaska SouthEast. Then my additional homework is on WebAssign. At Khan our teacher has been linked to us so that she can see how we are doing. Plus we have to pass each section of Khan, we must stay at it until we understand and do the 5 problems correctly in a row! I paid $633 for the class, $75 for WebAssign and Khan is free. Thank God!
