    I’m curious why do you stress them too pupate instead of just sifting them out?

    • @spacecoastmealworms
      @spacecoastmealworms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They only pupate under stress or isolation. My trays aren’t large enough to isolate them, so stress it is!

    Do you put food in the 2oz cups?

      Nope! The goal is to stress them out, not make them comfortable.

    Thanks for the Video. What do you give them as a water source? Some cost-effective water source? Also, how often do you provide them with a water source?

    • @spacecoastmealworms
      @spacecoastmealworms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here is a great cost-effective option. I make a big 5gal bucket of crystals and use a bucket lid and distilled water so it doesn’t get moldy.

    Hi, maybe its a stupid question, but why you give the big Worms in the little boxes instead of leaving IT in the big tray?

    I'm new to this. Just wondering, do you need to put a air hole in the cups?

    • @spacecoastmealworms
      @spacecoastmealworms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nope. The goal is to stress them out. If they haven’t turned after 10 days they are too small and need to go back to the bins to grow larger

      It was to minimize exposure to frass, since I have developed a pretty severe reaction to it. I had a perpetual rash on my fingers and knuckles for a couple years, and it went away completely after I sold off my farm.

    Why do you use bran for super worms? We found damp peat moss worked best

    • @spacecoastmealworms

      I guess because finding damp peat moss is harder than finding wheat bran. Whatever works though, right?

    What do you use for bedding when it comes to breeding meal worms? I used oats and I ended up with mites...

    • @ISeeDeadGamers

      Wheat bran from your local feed store. throw the bags in a deep freezer for 3 days no more mites.

      michael I use wheat bran from a local feed store. You can buy a 50lb bag for $12-20. Bran is also great for sifting, compared to oats.

    What about the fresh worms that are too small and fall through?

    • @spacecoastmealworms
      @spacecoastmealworms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the small worms aren't ready to be turned into beetles yet, so this helps separate the mature from the younger worms

    I don't have to individually cup the pupae ready mealworms with your pupae tower anymore, correct?

    • @spacecoastmealworms
      @spacecoastmealworms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regular mealworms don’t ever need to be cupped in order to pupate. Do you mean superworms? My tower isn’t designed for supers. You can use the tower to sift out your largest superworms, but they should still need to be cupped in order to pupate.

  • @klumenatiklumenati

    You should use smaller cups to increase the numbers of worms that pupate.

    • @spacecoastmealworms
      @spacecoastmealworms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol but that means I have to increase the number of worms I have to put in cups! 😂😂😂

    • @klumenatiklumenati
      @klumenatiklumenati 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@spacecoastmealworms I think you misunderstood. This way every worm you put in a cup will definitly pupate.
      If you use smaller cups, the worms have to curl up in order to fit in the cup, therefore my pupate rate is 99,9%
      You can even use those red partycups (mini shotglasses). Those make the worms curl up even better in the bottom of the cup, the are also tall enough so you do not need to cover them.

      He's forcing them to pupate so he has a new generation of beetle breeders. They usually won't pupate normally unless they are "forced" to do so.

      It gets really dirty and dry. And you can get allergies from touching any worm or their poop for a long time. Most of the bug scientists (entomologists?) are allergic to bugs they came in long contact with.
