For clarification, it really does matter if you can get gasoline a few cents cheaper because the price is based on *per gallon* (US standard system). The average vehicle gasoline tank capacity is about 15 gallons, and if you have 2 vehicles, you have to fill 2 tanks total (and fairly often too).
The average (regular) gas price for where I live is (approximately) $2.91 per gallon. If you get diesel, you would be paying (approximately) $3.14 per gal.
So if you get regular gasoline on an average price, you will be paying $43.65 for 1 tank, and $87.30 for 2 tanks.
If you saved *just one cent* on your (regular) gasoline, you could get 15 gallons for $43.50 and 30 gallons for $87.00.
That being said, if you get 1 tank of diesel, you would pay $47.10. If you get 1 tank for 1¢ cheaper, you would pay $46.95.
If you get 2 tanks, you would pay $94.20. If you get 2 tanks for 1¢ cheaper, you would pay $93.90.
Difference:
Regular, 15 gallons/1 tank: $43.65 (avg) --> $43.50 (cheaper)
Regular, 30 gallons/2 tanks: $87.30 (avg) --> $87.00 (cheaper)
