At 74 I had long ago given up on my music and was just sort of waiting for the end. You have been the major part in giving me back my life. You have been the major player in getting me off my backside and practicing again. You have been the major factor in re igniting my passion for music. I thank you and I love you. If there is heaven and I am destined to go there, I will search for you and give you a hug and my thanks from the bottom of my heart.
Beautifully said! Never quit. Never surrender your passion! Age is nothing but a number. Now that the flame is re-ignited, keep it fed and let it burn bright within your heart and soul. Let your music be your voice, just as it once was long ago. Let it flow once again through your veins. I wish you well.
The Intro is a “variation” on You Must Believe In Spring then another Michel Legrand piece. This is the most amazing Autumn Leaves I have ever heard. It surely a must for ALL to hear!!!
I did not know how to appreciate this tune when I was early 20s. When I grow to (perhaps) more fully understand the subtle emotions in it, I have just me. I hope this song is heard once again.
So complex, yet so much soul. Such mastery actually brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. I just wish more people appreciated this kind of creativity.
Mine too… such emotion… can heal my stabbed cardiac muscle… his feelings when playing are stronger than my emotional pain in my loneliness, now that I’m refused by everything and everyone… even for the people for whom I have so great esteem (not more than ten, myself not included)
this is a masterpiece in itself . the intro is so dense and intense . it brings almost tears in m y eyes. you can feel the pain michelle was suffering.
What a monster. Sadly I will never listen to him during a concert, but this is better than nothing. I will continue to listen this in my house, in the middle of my existence crisis.
I've never heard anything quite like this before. I just discovered this man just a moment ago. This was really profound. I said to myself: What the hell was that!? In a good connotation, he swung notes around like a brush and made a painting out of it, that was some kind of art!
I feel this music is like the summer going away and the winter coming. The general feel is winterly only there's some summer in it, but darker, colder. Anyway, the tittle really matches the whole feeling of the music. Genius.
this is a really astonishing performance in all aspects, amazing sound, amazing reharmonization and recomposiotion, unbeliveable thechnique and speed(especially in adition to his size) and time feel and amazing improvisation. one of the things that I truly like about his impro is the fact that he didn't care to play "simple" melodies with simple scales almoat classical like, almost not bebop and still sound amazing and interesting
The entire performance is about "Amour" di Michel Legrand. Petrucciani plays that wonderful theme between 1:30/2:20. Then he keeps soloing on "Autumn Leaves" chords progression, great moment at 6:00 with walking bass... You can recognize Legrand's theme again at 7:58/8.28 (after some echoes of "Autumn Leaves"). Don't understand what's happening, but if you say it's that good it may be so. For me I just like how it sounds like he isn't taking us where we want to go, but to a great and never imagined place.
RIP Michel Petrucciani. Nature made you small. You made yourself a giant.
Beautifully said...
May God have him in heaven, amen.

@@ronsiegrist2034 No question about that. Life is always better with music.
Michel was my friend
@@ronsiegrist2034 Then you have been highly blessed by both his music, and his friendship. A legacy I'm sure you treasure.

Just astonished! That may be the best version of Autumn Leaves I’ve ever heard on ANY instrument. Truly God sent down an angel to play for us!
Check out Stanley Jordan's version of Autumn Leaves. It's on guitars and very different but very good.
all pianos are yearning for a maestro like you
I was so fortunate to see/hear him in small venue. It was 30 years ago and that experience is still with me. An unbelievable genius.
The Intro is a “variation” on You Must Believe In Spring then another Michel Legrand piece. This is the most amazing Autumn Leaves I have ever heard. It surely a must for ALL to hear!!!
Petrucciani and Bill Evans. Both in a class by themselves.
What a pure gifted musician. He's greatly missed. Thanks Michel for all the music you gave the world.

Amazing how it starts so slowly and then builds into all these different architectures.
. Merci Michel.

Cuánta genialidad nos dejó este hombre. Fantástico Michel Petrucciani.

What a gift he was to the World. We need more music, not wars. Thanks Monsieur Petrucciani, rip.

I'm right there with ya
its self kept for a lot of people.. there's this abnormal gap between the masses thinking people that listen to jazz are loonies
@@FREAKMorticianwe are ..
Amazingly beautiful harmonies, to me the best part starts at 3:32
One of the best jazz pianists ever with incredible musical imagination
Petrucciani ! One of the most exciting Jazz improvisers ever. Such technique, truly extraordinary.
absolutely floored.
Wundervoll!
I haven't found more creative and dynamic version of Autumn Leaves than Petrucciani. Thanks
no one got this raw emotional sound as michel a genius and I know all music lovers can hear this Nigel Nash I great britain

Let's hope so
There is a pretty big chance that there is no heaven and hell. None of us can be sure though.
God bless this thread
If I liked jazz I would adore this man. Michel cannot change my mind. Fantastic pianist.
Kokia graži muzika, kaip puikiai atliekama. Aš žaviuosi žmogaus talentu.
Le Extraordinaire Michel Petrucciani. Bravo. Merci.
He was one of my favorite pianists. I didn't miss his concerts in Zürich.
Wow, I don't think I could ever pronounce your last name.
If there is a God, and there must be. He gave Michel, a gift few have. But what a price to pay, for that talent.
Master and a spirit you are !thank you sír RIP!)
Rip for ever Michel,yu gave so much to the musical world.U are among the greatest
Simple and strident! Each voice is so clear and yet so strident ! I hear Tatum constructed! What a pure joy!
SIEMPRE EN MI CORAZÓN ESTE GRAN GIGANTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRANDE
This song has really calmed my nerves, been thinkin too much
What a monster.
Sadly I will never listen to him during a concert, but this is better than nothing.
I will continue to listen this in my house, in the middle of my existence crisis.
His introduction is a work of art in itself.
I love how the introduction hints at Autumn Leaves so suddenly, but you don't actually hear the real head drop until around two and a half minutes in.
Actually it draws from the original song, which is very popular in France.
He plays the verse, wich obviously perfectly introduced the chorus. This is a great song.
Absolutely gorgeous !!
BRAVO & OLAY!!!
And many thanks for sharing with us all.
what a interpretation of autumn leaves! surely one of the bests I've ever heard

Puoi dirlo forte
tellement fier qu'il soit french!!! merci michel.
Michel perfectly combined Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson's characteristics in his own music.
3:33 - 4:00 is one of the most genius piano solos i have ever heard
Yeah thats some high level hand indipendence skill, he really rocks!
Oh my godddd
a deeply emotional performance. Love it!
Magic Michel.
Un IMMENSE génie de créativité ... Et c est en live..

Sweet with technique!! Love his style.
You make my heart sing.
The transition at 1:33 ....speechless.
Bigger than life
Magnifique.
:) fantastico.
he does everything in one damn tune!
The entire performance is about "Amour" di Michel Legrand.
Petrucciani plays that wonderful theme between 1:30/2:20.
Then he keeps soloing on "Autumn Leaves" chords progression,
great moment at 6:00 with walking bass...
You can recognize Legrand's theme again at 7:58/8.28 (after some echoes of "Autumn Leaves"). Best regards.
The composer of this tune is Joseph Kosma, lyrics by Jacques Prevert. Michel Legrand is just one of the many performers of this master piece.
The theme you are talking about is the verse of "Autumn leaves", and is not a Legrand's theme.
Yes, that walking bass. I'm trying to master this technique .... TRYING is the correct word I think.
Brillante musica sutil y potente. Lo recordaremos siempre Jazz genial
Pure electric magical musical joy!
Fue un verdadero genio.
sad to see such a legend pass so early.
