Yeah, I heard this not knowing who was playing (it was in a playlist), and thought,"Huh. Sure sounds like Chet Baker.".... then the sax started playing and I thought "That's GOT to be Desmond", and halfway through, was thinking "but who's that kick-ass drummer??" I usually find this to be a boring tune but there isn't a dull moment here.

I was fortunate to meet Chet Baker in Las Vegas at the Four Queens just before he passed. On his breaks he came to talk to our little table of four. We asked for an autograph but he adamantly refused. There was a total of about fifteen people in the audience. He swung the Four Queen’s hand down to the table that night. What a gentle soul, and a class musician. Great band too.

Bill Watrous, Jack Sheldon... Many others. Then off to Benny Binion's Horseshoe for the steak, Baked Potato, Salad, Bread and Drink for 99 cents. Them's was the days.

Jazz, with its rich history and vibrant melodies, stands as a true testament to the beauty of human creativity. It is a genre that defies boundaries, fusing various musical influences and cultural expressions into a harmonious tapestry of sound. Jazz appreciation goes beyond mere enjoyment; it involves an immersion into a world of improvisation, syncopation, and emotional storytelling. The intricate interplay between instruments, the expressive solos, and the collective energy of a jazz ensemble create a captivating experience for both the musicians and the audience. From the smoky clubs of New Orleans to the grand stages of international jazz festivals, this art form has transcended time and geography, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural fabric of the world. Jazz appreciation invites us to explore the depths of human expression, to celebrate individuality within the collective, and to experience the pure joy of spontaneous musical creation. It is a genre that constantly evolves, embracing new influences and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Jazz appreciation is a lifelong journey, a never-ending quest to uncover new rhythms, discover hidden gems, and connect with the universal language of music.

Whether it's the joyful swing of an up-tempo tune or the poignant beauty of a slow ballad, jazz always manages to stir my emotions and transport me to another realm. Its timeless appeal and endless creativity continue to inspire and amaze me. Jazz music is a true treasure that deserves endless appreciation.

I have this album in my collection. It’s one of the greatest pieces of jazz music I’ve ever heard. The musicians are out of this world. When I get on the boat late at night, on the quiet waters of the Gulf, the music takes me to another dimension. It’s transformative.

got my introduction to "modern, progressive jazz" listening to Symphony Sid, a well known DJ in Boston in the late 40's and early 50's.the man knew everyone who was in the jazz scene. this set bring back great memories. I was about 10 years old listening to this music. Sid also had a gospel music program on just before he came on with the jazz program. learned to appreciate all kinds of music at a young age.

I remember vividly my Tatay who plays as cool as Paul Desmond on the alto sax and even tenor sax. This piece was played by the Romy Posadas Band when they had an 8-year stint at Hyatt Hongkong. They were a sensation then in the 70's. Musicians emulated that group.

I have heard hundreds of different "Autumn Leaves" by different musicians and this is for sure and for me one of the best of its recordings. People tend to talk only about the collaboration by Chet and Paul Desmond but I like also Hubert Laws' flute and Bob James' electric piano. Very beautiful and still "modern interpretation" of "Autumn Leaves".

    CHET BAKER - Autumn Leaves
My favorite bass player since the late 60's is RON CARTER - who turned 83 in May. I'm listening to a recording he made with jazz giants Chet Baker and Paul Desmond, circa 1970. Mr. Carter is among the virtuoso jazz musicians on that recording who are still with us.
Chet died back in May of 1988. He was 69. Eleven years earlier, May of '77, Paul Desmond had left us at age 52. Three young future jazz giants providing stellar accompaniment on that AUTUMN LEAVES recording - besides Ron Carter -- included pianist Bob James (who turns 81 on Christmas Day this year). His Wikipedia entry opens on the note that,
“American jazz keyboardist, arranger, and record producer, Bob James founded the band Fourplay and wrote "Angela" - theme song for the TV show Taxi.”
The youngster in that group -- Steve Gadd - turned 75 this year and tours with James Taylor. Steve's Wiki entry includes a Who's Who of musical greats he's accompanied in the intervening years since this recording (below)
“ An American drummer, percussionist, and session musician. Gadd is one of the most well-known and highly regarded session and studio drummers in the industry, recognized by his induction into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1984.
Gadd's performances on Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" and "Late in the Evening" and Steely Dan's "Aja" are examples of his style. He has worked with popular musicians from many genres including Simon & Garfunkel, Steely Dan, James Taylor, Harry Chapin, Joe Cocker, Grover Washington Jr., Chick Corea, Lee Ritenour, Paul Desmond, Chet Baker, Al Di Meola, Kenny Loggins, Eric Clapton ….
Steve Gadd percussion expertise extends far beyond “the drum kit.” His Wiki note concludes with these words:
He also has an LP Steve Gadd signature cowbell, modelled on the LP Mambo cowbell that he has used since the 1970s.[23]
According to Allmusic, Gadd has been credited with playing surdo, kalimba, timpani, tambourine, congas, Grand Cassa, bongos, timbales, snare drum, cymbals and palmas.
Thanks for sharing Brunex Barrios. Celebrated this night at Sinatra Family - Forum - MY FAVORITE THINGS --"Right Now What Are You Listening to?" sinatrafamily.com/forum/showthread.php/8467-Right-now-to-what-are-you-listening-%28formerly-the-CD-Thread%29?p=1299223#post1299223
