*UPDATE* Apologies for not answering any comments for so long but I kinda forgot about this video (adhd lol). In regards to the side effects, all of them have pretty much faded away now (although I still go to the toilet exactly 1.5hrs after taking my meds in the morning). I was incorrect about not being able to stay on the meds indefinitely. You are able to take them forever or as long as you feel necessary. In regards to going private, if you have the money and feel that a diagnosis would make a genuine difference, I would definitely recommend it despite the stress cost. Having been on my meds as long as I now have I can genuinely say that they saved my life. I am happier and more stable mentality now than I ever have been and I’m doing really well at work and in my private life. If you think you might have adhd then I strongly recommend getting it looked into as even just knowing you have it will really help you mentally. Knowing that I’m not just lazy or stupid and that there genuinely is reasons behind certain things has brought me a great deal of peace with myself. If you have any other questions please feel free to reply to this and I’ll try my best to get back to you x
I started taking elvanse yesterday. Was diagnosed only a couple of weeks ago at the age of 33. Really quite nervous about it all. Watching this has given me a bit of peace of mind. I’m still getting racing thoughts though. Good luck on your journey chap!
If your eating more oats or porridge etc, anything with more fibre being more conscious of your food and eating more often like you said then this will make you poo more/normally. Unless it’s diarrhoea then speak to your doc. Also your meds are absolutely fine to take for the rest of your life as a adhd specialist/psychiatrist will confirm. I don’t know if you just generally thought that or read bad info, but relax - it’s fine 👍
Thank you for the intel, I did speak to my specialist about taking it forever and realised that i must've misunderstood something along the way. Feeling much more relaxed about the situation now :)
My psychiatrist changed my prescription to Elvanse Adult today after a few months of taking Medikinet (extended-release methylphenidate). I'm hoping for a decrease in the side effects I've been experiencing, especially feeling super groggy in the late afternoon. For the first 2-3 weeks of taking methylphenidate I've had pretty bad insomnia which went away eventually, but switching medication might bring that back. The solution my psychiatrist offered was Trimipramine which is usually prescribed for treating depression related insomnia. I do hope I won't be needing it though. Thanks for the informative video and good luck with your medication journey!
Thanks for the support! Please feel free to keep me posted on how the change in medication affects you, I’d definitely be interested in hearing yours and others perspectives. Wish you all the best x
Hey, I cant quite remember if I've been taking it for 6, 7 or 8 months now but I'm doing good. I stayed at 30mg but take 5mg 4hr tablets here and there on days when I need the extra boost. I still can't quite sit still or stop my hands from moving around all the time, however, my mind is 1 million times more stable these days. Honestly have never felt this in control of my brain in my life :)
I have been dosed with elvanse now for 3 years and I started with 30 mg and now I am up to 70 mg as it does not give effect after the same dose for a longer period. (Btw im 16 years old and study in for carpenter)
Agreed. I had this confirmed from a adhd specialist that it is absolutely fine. Gave me an example of a 60+ year old gentlemen who’s been taking meds for decades and he’s fine. No advanced ageing or adverse side effects.
@@voldefox Yes. He didn’t go into too much detail, but I his medication had been increased over the years. However I’ve always thought that a medication ‘holiday’ may be a good thing every so often. How often though I’m not sure, maybe for a few weeks a year? The idea to detox the body of the drug and bring it back to its resting levels? I’ll have to research more into that. I’ve read they will switch your medication type if you either start to not get the desired affects after getting to a higher dosage and read some people have then switched back after a months and the original meds had the desired affect again.
In my last meeting with my specialist before I got transferred over to the NHS I spoke to him about this and found out that I must have got the wrong end of the stick. Certainly helped put my mind to rest :)
Sorry the the delay in response. I went private and I just pay the normal £9 a month for my meds. After w few months of private they transfer you over to the nhs who deal with the prescription from then on
I started with 30 felt great, felt after a week it was kinda not working as well so I doubled my dose and I had the shakes for 2 days. I’m somewhat normal now but I’ll never take 60 again.
At the end of the day it is a stimulant so shakes are something that can happen. Just keep fluids up and talk to your doctor if it’s still happening. Sorry for the delay in response
I take 30mg, however it’s still just my second month so potentially I may go up in dose in the future (I doubt I’ll drop down at any point). As you do with 25mg, I find that with 30mg there are hardly any side effects now although I doubt the dry mouth will ever stop. Did your doctor/specialist start you on 50mg? I only ask as this is quite a high dose to start on so I’m unsurprised you found it terrible.
The Vivid Dream gum helps the dry mouth and I drink Daily Harvest smoothies for breakfast that help me make sure I’m getting a good variety of nutrients. I have to take it first thing in the am bc the effects happen when I take it later in the day. I drink chamomile tea at night to help relax and rest 👍🏼 and the calmness in the mind is stellar and has helped my professional career and prioritizing. I don’t drink coffee/caffeine anymore bc it makes the dry mouth worse. And I take breaks from taking it to help reset here and there
Hey, I started elvanse 7 days ago. 30mg in the morning by afternoon it had worn off, so I spoke to my private doctor I then when up to 60mg a day. Which the first few days it felt amazing, but the 2 days I've felt completely normal, like irritable getting stressed easier etc. ??
Hi, I'm sorry for responding to this sooner. I hope that since this comment you've managed to find what works for you. If not all I can recommend is you either speak to your doctor or see if you can find some info on Reddit. I find it is a bit of gold mine when it comes to getting advice for stuff like this :)
Sudden drop in dopamine can cause bad heads when coming down if any one gets this drink a bottle of coke or tea/coffee works wonders for me just thought id drop this lil tip out there for people
Coke and tea yes. However personally I wouldn’t recommend coffee. I found that caffeine can effect how well my medication works. Also mixing stimulants is never the best idea (although this is especially relevant in my own case due to a family history or heart problems). Cheers for the tip tho x

Sorry for the delay, update posted in pinned comment. Hope everything is going well

Any updates? Starting elvanse tomorrow! Also very useful review. Also didn’t realise you can’t always be on it?
Apologies for the delay in response but check my pinned comment. Hope it’s been going well!
Hi there, I was wondering how your still doing on the vyvanse?

You have a really high amphetamine tolerance if you took it 3 years straight. I would stop taking it for at least 1 month.
Who told you that you can't take this medication forever? ADHD can't be cured so the day you stop taking the meds, the symptoms will come back.
Agreed. I had this confirmed from a adhd specialist that it is absolutely fine. Gave me an example of a 60+ year old gentlemen who’s been taking meds for decades and he’s fine. No advanced ageing or adverse side effects.
@@Allegro_Giusto and the effect has been always the same for him?

Just adding a request for an update! Hope all's good regardless
Update just posted in pinned comment, sorry for the delay
Anyone get the shakes? Or a feeling of like low blood sugar?
What dose Paul? I started Elvanse yesterday @ 20mg, absolutely no difference or effect at all! Freaking me out a bit 😂
I started with 30 felt great, felt after a week it was kinda not working as well so I doubled my dose and I had the shakes for 2 days. I’m somewhat normal now but I’ll never take 60 again.

What dose do you take? Have you tried a lower dose? I found 50mg terrible but 25mg is perfect and hardly any side effects.

You went from 30 directly to 60? Not 40 and 50 first?
Have any of these side effects dumbed down now since then ?
Apologies for the delay in response, check my pinned comment

How many mgs were you on? Are you still taking it?
Sorry the delay in response. Been on 30mg since I started and yeah I’m still taking it. Check my pinned comment for more info
On the bright side you'll never be dehydrated and never get fat haha
And who doesn’t love shitting 4 times a day
trust me know it takes motiron and has every day 24/7 dry mouth and it's awful.
Unbelievable, so much of side-effects, and you still promote taking it??? Better listen to Gabor Maté about the real background of ADHD...
All side effects pretty much gone now and the effect it’s had on me and my life is immeasurable. Can’t promote it enough
