Well Hotch got himself removed. The actor, Thomas Gibson, had apparently kicked one of the producers, repeatedly, and as a result of this being the third or fourth instance of getting physical. They had stopped giving him chances and fired him on sight. He was his own death. And he also created issues with the story itself, since they already had pre-written all his lines. And thus now, created issues with the whole cast, and more importantly how they're gonna work out a character who was there for the first two Season 3 episodes.
Actually while it is true Gibson kicked Virgil Williams, the writer isn't an angel either. According to the workers, the writer is belligerent and such altercation would have happened sooner or later. I think it was stupid to fire Gibson considering Hotch's importance in the show.

there are times when I watch criminal minds and see Hotch always so serious and there was a time where I saw him heartbroken after losing the woman he loved as well as almost losing his son. but there was never a time like this that Hotch made me laugh in court when he put that lawyer in his place go Hotch show him who's boss LOL
I love the fact he started out his speech with something that could be easily proven. He rolls into other things that could also be proven. Then, as the councilor continues to be an ass, he finishes off by humiliating him. He not only makes his point clearly, but he also gets some satisfaction because Hotch was, once upon a time, a prosecuting attorney. I love the man.

The best part of all of this is how quiet and composed Hotch stays. He never raises his voice, never shows anger.
