      HI 😍💐 ooohhh, truly! This orchid has me geeking out not just when she is in bloom. I was hoping for 15 new growths this year, on the first push of new growths, and then see where she would go on her second push, well.... I have 4 more new growths coming! Total 19 growths 🫣😅 and yes, I lost one new growth or else it would be a total of 20! 😆 Beast mode! And I am throwing everything at Stan atm. Fertilizer, CalMag, Calcium Nitrate and water water water!! So much Fun! 😂 thank you so very much for watching! I hope you are having a beautiful day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      Hi Andrea 😍💐 really appreciate your feedback and thank you so much for watching! She was not treated very kindly during the cold month of February, so she lost 4 leaves, but for the coming winter, I am going to use a big towel to protect her from any cold damage and hope that it will work out 🤞🏼 love this orchid 🫣😅 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      😍Long time no see, and 2 comments on the same day! What a treat, thank you 🫶🏼 love my Stan! Would love to have more, but yikes, this one grew 43 new growths in 2023, and they are now all at the point of maturing, so... 🤣 I think he will be the one and done on the patio!! The blooms do not last long, this is true, but when it comes to a mature stan, with multiple growths, it is possible to get so many spikes that are all at different stages of maturity. The total blooming time for my Stan in 2023 was 6 weeks because of the many many spikes he had. Just wonderful 🙌🏼 thank you so much for watching this video as well 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    🦒👌💕🌷 What a show🎉 So much more impressive when the spikes grow under the basket. I have to say that I rather like it when the buds open in succession, the blooming period is extended and the excitement of the opening many times repeated 😅 I've noticed your new growths are "dangerously" coming very close to the edge, same as mine 🙆 I wonder what happens when they het there 😂 I only have 7 new growths so far but I am very happy, that is already more than last year. Such a fabulous orchid!!! Thank you so much for gifting it to me and also for linking my video, so sweet of you. Much love and hope you have a wonderful day. Very windy here too, gusts so strong that that blow everything away and dry everything out. But it is warm 💕💖💝🫠🥰

      FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good evening, amiga mia! so much more impressive yes! And, same here, I hope that it continues to do this successive blooming in the future because it gave me time to appreciate and enjoy the orchid for that much longer. Since this video was filmed, today I counted 14 new growths. I also saw that 2 other spikes had failed and I feel as though one of the 2 failed because it started too late in the season and could not make it. So strange, but so interesting and certainly something I will try and see if there is a repeat of that happening next year. The other one I found today also had started to grow down and got caught in the root mass. So, 12 spikes, with 4 fails in 2023. Just to have that on record because I said I wanted 12 spikes next year. I am going to correct that verbiage... I want 12 blooming spikes next year 😂 some leads have their pseudobulbs pushed up against the iron, yes. With plenty of space in the back 🙄 the pseudobulbs are deformed because of that, but they still have their leaves. Not something I can say for other leaves that were well protected in the middle of the basket and still failed because of the cold. I am going to need a bigger towel for the winter 🫣😅 such a wonderful monstrosity in that basket, I love it and I am glad that you have the same fun experience at your end! I have to recognize your dedication to getting up and sticking with your Stan until the blooms open, to film that... it deserves a lot more exposure 🫶🏼 😘 I had a cloudy overcast day today, no wind (I had my share of that yesterday) but, the clouds made it possible for me to throw a lot of fertilizer at the mounts without worrying about anything evaporating too quickly. It was a good day on the patio. 👍🏼 I hope that you had a good day as well, amiga mia!! Thank you so much for watching 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hi Nina, so so very nice enjoyable video. You have inspired me to purchase a Stanhopea reichenbachiana.. will be here tomorrow. I build my hanging boxes out of cedar. I have one 8x8 with wide gaps, wondering if that would work. Thank you for the fun, you are The Orchid Master.

      🌸🥷🏼 Bob San 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good evening from a balmy Southern Spain with the orchids able to stay outside for this one night only! Amazing 🙌🏼 you are diving in to Stans!! How awesome is that? 🥳 for the first 2 years that should be fine, depending the size she has when she arrives. You can see what mine is doing in it's basket after the 3rd year of being divided. Yes, this is a division 50% of the original 😆 43 growths within one season(2023). From when I first reveceived mine, it took 2 years to start growing 15 growths in a single season, which was it's 3rd year with me. So, if the Stanhopea reichenbachiana is anything as vigorous as this hybrid is, know that you will need to have not only a bigger basket, but something that you won't mind not ever having to repot again, until the orchid itself is a big ball. I LOVE my Stan the Man! He had to be watered 2x today because it was that nice and warm. I am still in a hoodie, with a shawl and a wooly blanket around my lumbar region, but I am not as vigorous as Stan anymore, so ... 😂 very excited for you to have your own Stan! I know you are going to LOVE it! Thank you for sharing that awesome news with me. Yes, I shall be pestering you with how its growing, how vigorous it starts to grow for you etc. You see, I always wanted 4 different Stans, but other shiny things were catching my eye at the time. Now I am grateful that I ended up with this one only because, where would I put them all? I can't even put this Stan into the blooming alley when he blooms because he is heavy! I am guessing he now weighs 37lbs without wet media. 🤪🥊 hope your day is going fabYOUlously and thank you so much for watching. I loved 'building' this video and the feedback is greatly appreciated 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      @NinjaOrchids yikes, 37lbs I need a bigger hanging basket. Mine is coming in a 6 inch pot Blooming size. I just found a Maxima coerulea. I was talking to a nursery in Florida, he had some not listed in his private stash. He agreed to sell me one so I got 3 more orchids to fill out the order which made him very happy. What a hobby. Much love Nina, ❤️ I'll send you a picture.

      🦋🦇😍 what a treat!! I would like to know more, but I shall do as you wish, we won't go there! 🫶🏼 thank you for being so kind and supportive to also watch this video today 🫶🏼 YOU have yourself a fabulous rest of YOUR day / evening ❤️🌸

    The extreme staggered blooming did you a favor in two ways. 1) You got to enjoy the blooms for a lot longer than last year when all of them opened in rapid succession. 2) The aroma wasn't overwhelming. If all of those blooms had popped open at the same time, even outside, I think it would have been too much.
    I am curious if you noticed the carpenter bees around when it was open. They are not so distantly related to the natural pollinator of the Stans so I wondered if it would attract them. I would think the fragrance and abundance of nectar produced would surely call them round.
    p.s. no rain again. As has been the case, most of it fell in a line about 30 km to the east, with a smattering edging toward the coast as they broke up.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe! It really did me a favor and now I hope that it will continue to do that year in, year out! And in future I will cut the old spikes away so that those that are in bloom will have an opportunity to shine. I have to take notes of the blooms though... it was ridiculous how I kept loosing count 😅 no carpenter bees around at all! I think they are only active during spring. Not entirely sure, but I have not seen any of them interested in the new mounts. Next year I will have to keep an eye on the timing of their appearance. 🤞🏼 We had a cloudy day today, less wind, and a little higher humidity which was amazing. I went all Ninja on the fertilizing of the mounts without having to worry about anything evaporating on me too fast! 👍🏼 sorry to hear that you are still having blue skies ... meanwhile, you know me 😂 I filmed this video 3 days ago, and the current status of new growths is at 14 🙌🏼😆 and, in actual fact I had 12 spikes and 4 failed. I did not see the other 2 that failed because they had buried themselves sooner than the 2 I was observing. I think though that one of them developed too late for it to actually mature an bloom out. The weirdest thing. It would appear that, if a spike grows a little later, it won't make it. Cannot confirm that until next year, but it certainly is something to keep in mind for next year. Love this orchid!! Thank you so much for watching, Michael! I will continue to hope that you get the rain you need 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Great job Nina! I have two Stanhopeas one bloomed for me with two buds last year I believe or the beginning of this year, but all the Stanhopea Reichenbachiana 'Eve' X Self leaves fell except for the new growth. I don’t know why she is so slow to get more growths and the other is the Stanhopea hernandezii and it is in growth mode for now. ❤ I would love one day to get the Coelogyne usitana… Iol I know it’s not a Stanhopia lol 😂!!! Be safe. 😆🌞🌸🫣

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hi Ileana 😍💐 well, there are some strange things that Stans do, and maybe your Stan needs more water or more humidity for it to hold on to it's leaves? I cannot imagine that your Stan is exposed to the cold elements that mine has to deal with, which caused mine to loose leaves and get cell damage on the leaves that are left. It is possible that it can use a little more fertilizer to hold on to the leaves. But, now that the leaves are not there with the exception to the new growth, don't fertilize heavily seeing as it has that one leaf. Just a thought with the leaf loss and what may have happened prior to that happening🫶🏼 Usitana is a beautiful orchid. I have the hybrid Coelogyne Lyme Bay and that one has usitana as a parent and shows the same characteristics in the bloom. My cockatoo snapped the spike! It was in constant bloom since November 2020 until Xyliano nipped the spike 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ thank you so much for watching, lovely lady! I hope that you are having a great Friday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids oh wow, thanks for the information. Mines is in a dry warm climate and I thought I was overwatering lol… I guess not 🫣🤭. HI Sandie 😍💐 I was thinking of getting 4 in total, back in the day! Well, I am relieved that I never got around to hit, or else I would be serious trouble! 😆 so much fun to grow 👍🏼👍🏼 if you have any questions in the future, I have a care video on Stanhopea and other videos of observations I discovered along the way etc. Let me know and I will be happy to provide the links as and when you find one and want to get it! I got my basket at a garden centre in the home decor section. It is not an orchid basket, but something along the lines of being more decorative. Well, it works a treat and is now an orchid basket! 👍🏼 sometimes looking in areas that are more on the decorative side, fruit baskets for the kitchen or something like that, will have a multitude of wide open baskets which are ideal for Stans and can be repurposed 👍🏼 thank you so very much for watching, gurrrrlllfrrriend!! Wishing you a beautiful rest of your Friday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Good day I want to know what medium do you use for your Stanhopea. Will it be fine if I put sphagnum moss as a medium and water it daily in the summer?

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hi Anna 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so first of all, a warm warm welcome and a massive thank you for being here, for watching the video and your comment / question. I really appreciate your time and support, thank you! So, my media is inorganic, it is my substitute for sphagnum moss, and it is in actual fact the material wich serves as a filter for an extractor fan above the stove, or the kind of filter panelling for A/Cs. It doesn't degrade and as you can see, easily removed without disturbing the orchid. you can absolutely grow your stanhopea in sphagnum moss, yes! Same characteristics as my filter material. High water retention and a good supply of humidity while the orchid is in active growth. Bear in mind though, that sphagnum moss that is watered heavily, which is what the stanhopea needs when in active growth, the moss will compact over time. I always say that 8 months is a good life span for moss that needs to be consistently damp, as well as wet without drying out. So, I hope that my answer was helpful. Maybe it prompted other questions, please feel free to ask away! I hope you are having a lovely day and once again, welcome 🫶🏼🌸
