Maiah, I saw the film, and it was one of the most incredible adaptations I've ever seen. Rachel was incredible, and she had been my second choice for over a year before it was announced. I remember being here, 3 years ago, listening to this song. Back then, I was a teenager who was deeply struggling with an eating disorder and I remember signing this song to this tune in the hospital to pass time. It has since then followed me through rough patches, and I will forever be grateful for this version of the Lucy’s Ballad!

I am the one who knows how you were brave. And I am the one who heard what you said sleeping. I’ll take that and more when I go to my grave. It’s sooner than later that I’m six feet under. It’s sooner than later that you’ll be alone. So who will you turn to tomorrow, I wonder? For when the bell rings, lover, you’re on your own. And I am the one who you let see you weeping. I know the soul that you struggle to save. Too bad I’m the bet that you lost in the reaping. Now what will you do when I go to my grave?

You know, your cover was so good I was expecting the movie just for this song scene. Yours is still so much better, it made me cry when I was reading the book and it still does. You'll always be Lucy for me
Just finished reading the book. Thank you so much for creating this! It was hard to imagine the melody when reading the lyrics in the book and I found myself just putting it to the tune of other songs from the hunger games series. Also I feel like until there is a movie (if there is one), I will now always picture you as Lucy Gray.
Seriously, I think I'm at least half of the views :D You have a fan from Czechia now! May I ask you what chords are used in this song? I would love to play it myself and sing it at home :)
@@zdislavasviderova3685 I'm going to try to make some tabs too! Here are the chords! So I have my capo on the 7th fret and the verses are F, Em, Am (with one phrase that is F, G, Am) and the choruses are F, Am Em - for the first half and then F, G, Am for the second half. (I'm technically playing an Fmaj7 each time I play the F) 🙂 If you aren't using a capo the chords are C, Bm, Em for the verses (with one phrase that is C, D, Em) and the choruses are C, Em, Bm first half and C, D, Em for the second half Hope that helps!! :)
Just watched the movie yesterday, and while the songs were good (and I even preferred some of the versions like Nothing You Can Take From Me) this one is leagues better than the actual movie version of The Ballad of Lucy Gray Baird. So much emotion and makes me listen to the words way more.
Me too!! This is my favorite song from the story. The lyrics!!! And though I did enjoy Rachel’s rendition, and the respect for Appalachian folk music, Rachel sang it like she was mad, I felt? And Maiah sings it with such sadness, that I can see how the audience would react with sniffles and such, the way it’s described in the books
Damn.. not for me, I love how happy seems to be the movie's version, with these so sad lyrics.. a lot more heart-hurting compared to this song, the teareles lyrics are just emotionnally reapeted by a low key melody. Instead of that, awesome singing eh ! I respect the performance
3 years later i’m here saying THEY’VE DONE THE MOVIE AND I HOPE THERE WILL BE SOMETHING OF MAIAH IN IT. i remember all the wishes we’ve done for you thanks to your music❤️
I wish I saw this as I was reading the book because I had trouble reading the songs in my head without having an interpretation of what they sounded like
I‘d love to hear Lucy Grays Name song and Maude Ivory’s Song about staying in the sunside that she sings during the murder on Mayfair in the Hob, but I‘d also love to hear the other songs because I can barley imagine them on my own and your voice and interpretation fits so well!! Love it❤️🥰
Just saw the movie, your song are SUPERIOR. This song in particular had no soul in the movie. I wish they should have made a deal with you to buy your songs or something:(
Movie version is perfect and Rachel is an amazing singer. This version is dry and boring with a mediocre singer, not to talk about how she’s singing completely in the wrong genre 🤷♀️
NOOOO LUCY GRAY YOU DID NOT DESERVE THAT END !!! 😭😭💔💔 that was amazing ! It was hard to imagine the melody while reading the lyrics but you did it perfectly !
Thanks for spoiling the book, I was still at the start of the hunger games when I saw this video, quickly looked for the lyrics to sing along in the top comments when I saw yours. I didn’t expect her to survive the book, but you should be more careful when writing a comment that indicates the ending of a book that was released just a week ago. From now on spoilers NOOOOO SHE DIDN’t DESERVE THAT END!!! 🩸❄️😫 I hated snow for Sejanus, but that was cruel, how could snow do that? I kept thinking she would die in a tragedy until she left to get katniss, then every page was awful to read. I guess in his mind he actually gave her a couple more weeks of life, but after this book snow is my most hated villain ever!
I just finished reading the book and so I was looking up reviews, then found this video and I'm not disappointed at all. You sound amazing. I hope you do more of the songs from the book.
Had to find this version when I got to chapter 11 and closed my eyes to envision this scene. The audience listening intensely. Snow staring at Lucy Gray, not being able to take his eyes off her as she sings. Had to wipe the tears from eyes and face to finish the last two paragraphs of the chapter Thank you 😊 for this.
This was really good. I’m so impressed hearing your arrangement, I couldn’t do it while reading the book so I read them as poems. Wasn’t really excited for the movie because I didn’t love the book but I really hope they get into contact with you to take inspiration, it’s that good.
That’s such a cool idea!! Next time I read the book I am definitely going to pull up these videos of Maiah and play them when I get to all the songs!! Ahh! I’m going to enjoy the reread so much!
I listened to the audiobook and the lyrics for the songs were so beautiful but the narrator just spoke them. I needed this in song form! Thank you so much. Please do The Hanging Tree!
*Nearly 6 am and I am SCREAMING, The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes by my side. I LOVE this with all of my heart, truly. It's nothing less than perfect, Gosh !*
Did anyone else realize that in the movie the ballad of Lucy Grey Baird had the same guitar chords as one of her songs?? Or it just sounds rlly similar, idk. 🤷♀️
I like this Lucy Gray a lot. She reminds me of someone in real life who helps to heal this world one song at a time. I think her name might be Maiah... :)
OMG, the chills!!! You were perfect! The melody, the singing, the cosplay... Please please continue doing this for the other songs from the book!! Love from Brazil 🇧🇷💚
love this version so much it's the feelings i expected to have when i watched the movie but didn't. don't get me wrong i loved the movie and the soundtrack but this one just makes me shiver !
This is absolutely beautiful and I love listening to it, but I think the film versions are closer to the kind of song they're supposed to be (folk songs)
I love this. They're going to have a hard time topping this when they make the movie. This is a lot like I pictured Lucy singing it when I read the book. Well done
Wow! You bring so much emotion to this that I was worried about you by the end of it. So glad that the happy face and laughter was in the closing segment! Well done, young lady. But that’s expected since that’s what you always deliver!
Haha thank you!! Yeah it's such an emotional scene in the book. She is essentially saying goodbye through song and preparing to die. 😭 but yes I am totally fine 😆❤
The difference between your version and the movies verison is that while this one was filled with so much emotion and power while the movie version felt very rushed. Don't get me wrong I loved the movie version too but this in my opinion is the true Ballad Of Lucy Grey Baird
Movies version was perfectly okay. I actually found it extremely moving. In the movie scene, she sounds on the brink of tears and you really feel and sympathize with the seemingly inevitable and looming dread of unstoppable death.
Having finished this book and listening to this incredible version there is so much parallel in how Snow and Lucy both lived of their charms. All her songs must feel like bullets for the remainder of his life
I really, I mean REALLY hope that you are casted in the movie! Your voice and everything just screams Lucy Gray! And even if it's not you, I hope they cast a singer for the role because I'm not expecting any half ass songs played in the movie. The entire book revolves around songs so they should play a huge part in the movie as well
Oh my gosh, Maiah, you are Lucy Gray Baird! I just reached that song in the book, and I had to listen to you singing it again. Just as Jennifer Lawrence was born to play Katniss Everdeen on screen, you were born to play Lucy Gray Baird.
So I don’t know if you guys have heard the audiobook. But the narrator doesn’t try to sing ANY of the songs. So honestly, throw this on when you get to this part in the book!
I heard people saying that! That's so silly 😆 I'm hoping to make all the songs and hopefully people can pair it with the book to get the full experience! :)
Can we boost this so that Lionsgate/Suzanna Collins sees this?

So I have my capo on the 7th fret and the verses are F, Em, Am (with one phrase that is F, G, Am) and the choruses are F, Am Em - for the first half and then F, G, Am for the second half. (I'm technically playing an Fmaj7 each time I play the F)
🙂
If you aren't using a capo the chords are C, Bm, Em for the verses (with one phrase that is C, D, Em) and the choruses are C, Em, Bm first half and C, D, Em for the second half
Hope that helps!!
Also, they cut so many of the lyrics :(
Damn.. not for me, I love how happy seems to be the movie's version, with these so sad lyrics.. a lot more heart-hurting compared to this song, the teareles lyrics are just emotionnally reapeted by a low key melody.
Instead of that, awesome singing eh ! I respect the performance
@@AJJDGB980The full song is actually on Spotify! I assume they cut some of the verses to lower the run time :)
@@twendwoooo7372 oooo. Ill check it out.
3 years later i’m here saying THEY’VE DONE THE MOVIE AND I HOPE THERE WILL BE SOMETHING OF MAIAH IN IT. i remember all the wishes we’ve done for you thanks to your music❤️
I wish I saw this as I was reading the book because I had trouble reading the songs in my head without having an interpretation of what they sounded like
Aw well I hope this helps bring them to life! :)❤❤😃
Love it❤️🥰
Deal! More coming your way!
still like this one more than the movie vers btw
Just saw the movie, your song are SUPERIOR. This song in particular had no soul in the movie. I wish they should have made a deal with you to buy your songs or something:(
I think the movie one fit really well and was super soulful. Sounded like old country. Was really beautiful.
It was old old country/bluegrass. The melody is a classic “The streets of Laredo”@@strawberry-qg1gg
Movie version is perfect and Rachel is an amazing singer. This version is dry and boring with a mediocre singer, not to talk about how she’s singing completely in the wrong genre 🤷♀️
I can see you as Lucy Gray Baird!!
NOOOO LUCY GRAY YOU DID NOT DESERVE THAT END !!! 😭😭💔💔 that was amazing ! It was hard to imagine the melody while reading the lyrics but you did it perfectly !
😭❤ thank you so much!!! She deserved better 💔
From now on spoilers
NOOOOO SHE DIDN’t DESERVE THAT END!!!
But then, valar morghulis, and living in panem would be hell
Spoilers:
We don't actually know what happens to her
Wait what end
This song literally makes me cry every time I listen to it you need to be lucy gray in the movie
The first time I listened I didnt like much, but now I'm listening to it for the 20th time in the day and can't stop singing
Haha I'm glad it won you over 😄 I'm like that sometimes. A slow burn 😆
sameeeeeeeeeeee tho
So good👍👍
Thank you!!
That was so beautiful. I'd love to hear the first song Lucy sang at the reaping
That's a great one! Making my list! They're all so good
Okay just came up with an arrangement for the reaping song that I'm happy with! Going to record it soon!
@@MaiahWynne omg I can't wait to hear it! Thank you so much!
I just finished reading the book and so I was looking up reviews, then found this video and I'm not disappointed at all. You sound amazing. I hope you do more of the songs from the book.
Thank you so much!!😃❤
Had to find this version when I got to chapter 11 and closed my eyes to envision this scene. The audience listening intensely. Snow staring at Lucy Gray, not being able to take his eyes off her as she sings.
Had to wipe the tears from eyes and face to finish the last two paragraphs of the chapter
Thank you 😊 for this.
after watching the movie I loved your version twice as much
This was really good. I’m so impressed hearing your arrangement, I couldn’t do it while reading the book so I read them as poems. Wasn’t really excited for the movie because I didn’t love the book but I really hope they get into contact with you to take inspiration, it’s that good.
That is such a huge compliment!! It would be a dream come true to help with the song arrangements in the film! ❤😃
I started reading the song in the book, and I just couldn’t so I had to search it up, and it was absolutely incredible hearing your voice to it!
Thank you so much!!! ❤😃
Thank you!! And definitely that is such a good song❤😃
I would love to see another hunger games book about
-how panem was founded
-the first rebellion story and the first mokingjay
-the first hunger games
*Nearly 6 am and I am SCREAMING, The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes by my side. I LOVE this with all of my heart, truly. It's nothing less than perfect, Gosh !*
😭 thank you soooo much!!!!😃❤❤
Is it weird that I watched this video many many times now,, it's just so good💛
That makes me so happy 😄❤
@@MaiahWynne omg u have no idea I'm obsessed with u,, u r amazing and u r soo talented its so beautiful like u r the whole thing the whole package💛💛
if lucy gray in the movie can’t sing like you, i dont want it 😌
Aww thank you!!❤❤😃
Did anyone else realize that in the movie the ballad of Lucy Grey Baird had the same guitar chords as one of her songs?? Or it just sounds rlly similar, idk. 🤷♀️
Came here after the movie! You and your music are WORLDS better than theirs. You are Lucy Gray!!
Thank you so much!!!!! I'm definitely going to! You are so sweet! Everyone has been so nice 😭❤
love this version so much it's the feelings i expected to have when i watched the movie but didn't. don't get me wrong i loved the movie and the soundtrack but this one just makes me shiver !
This is the 1900th comment. The 1900th comment that praises this wonderful masterpiece!
I love this arrangement so much, the movie version just sounds wrong to me.
Lucy Gray is part of the Covey, their songs are folksongs/blues music. This sounds so bad plus why would a folksong sound like this?
@@Idkkk20 If you don't like it, door's right there, pal.
@@crumbsintopebbles Why did you put a comma after like? 😂
This is absolutely beautiful and I love listening to it, but I think the film versions are closer to the kind of song they're supposed to be (folk songs)
The second chord got me. Literally the second one, it felt like a warm blanket in autumn. I really like it, ohyes.
😆❤ haha I love that!
@@MaiahWynne it's such a great arrangement, thank you for sharing it c:
I love this. They're going to have a hard time topping this when they make the movie. This is a lot like I pictured Lucy singing it when I read the book. Well done
Thank you so much!!!❤
Hoping you could do the Rue's Death Song (Maude Ivory's Lullaby at the Lake). 🥺
Aw yes that one always makes me cry😭❤
the way you present yourself is exactly how I imagined Lucy Gray singing on stage while reading the book :)
Great cover 💕
This is excellent. Kind of hard to imagine how the song would go since we only get the lyrics in the book, but this was a great arrangement.
Thank you so much!!
words CANNOT express my LOVE for this song
Man I found this song too late! This has been on loop for over an hour, you should totally be in the movie!
Thank you!!
this sad melody matches the lyrics way better than the happy melody they went with in the movie.
Same!! I'm used to giggly Maiah but she's so great and portraying emotion 😭👏
I cant believe it has been a year sense this came out and i still love it
The difference between your version and the movies verison is that while this one was filled with so much emotion and power while the movie version felt very rushed. Don't get me wrong I loved the movie version too but this in my opinion is the true Ballad Of Lucy Grey Baird
Nothing against her. Her voice is so clean and pristine but her versions snooze like a forgettable lullaby.
Movies version was perfectly okay. I actually found it extremely moving. In the movie scene, she sounds on the brink of tears and you really feel and sympathize with the seemingly inevitable and looming dread of unstoppable death.
hell no the movies was so much better this sounds…ok
Stop lying
This version is full of sad emotions and is actually good! But I think the movie version would fit Lucy Gray's fiery personality more
Having finished this book and listening to this incredible version there is so much parallel in how Snow and Lucy both lived of their charms. All her songs must feel like bullets for the remainder of his life
one dislike is from someone who subscribes to me and is always my first thumbs down, I love how invested they are!
So beautiful 😍👌👏 encore ❤
❤❤😊 thank you!
Sooooo much better than the movie song! ❤
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS, NOW WE BEED YOU TO SING THE OTHER MUSICS ON THE BOOK AAAAAAA
Yes! I'm excited to do more!
😭❤ thank you so much!!!!
If that book is made into a movie, I’ll be very upset if Maiah isn’t the one playing Lucy Gray
Aw thank you!!!❤❤😃
That voice! You WILL be a famous musician one day!
Thats what I've been doing
her voice literally gives me the chills
happy to give you chills! Thank you for listening!
