  • How to Convert MTB to MONSTERCROSS Bike with SHIMANO ALIVIO and SENSAH IGNITE 2x9
Hello Viewers! Today we're going to upgrade my personal Mountain Bike and turn it into something more like a hybrid gravel or to be more specific, its what they call a Monster Cross Bike. It's a sweet middle ground between a cyclocross bike and a 29'er that makes it the best all around bike one can build!
To give you a little introduction about this bike, This is the FOXTER Vinson 6.2+ which I bought from LJ Bike Shop last December 2019. It has a 2x9 Alivio setup which I'm sure can fit to a Sensah Ignite Shifter mechanism. I hope you enjoy! Ride Safe and Stay Safe from COVID19!

Nice ride! I did the same thing with my 2010 Scott Scale 29er hardtail.
-Stand Crest ZTR wheels with Vitorria Mezcal tires with Stans sealant.
    -Salsa cow chipper drop bars
-Shimano 105 shifter coupled to a Tan Pan to keep shift ratios to an XT derailleur coupled to an 11x52 cluster and a single Wolf tooth 32 upfront.
-The front brake is a hydraulic TRP brake to compliment the hydraulic 105 shifter/brake.
-I replaced the Reba fork with a Surley Krampus.
I ride this more than my road bike and mountain bike combined as it is so versatile.
    Keep riding

Hi! hello. I have a Scott scale 2022 and I want to do the same. Did the geometry of the bike change a lot with the dropped handlebars? did you use a shorter stem to compensate for the longer top tube on the mtb?

great conversion! I also converted my Giant ATX1 model to monstercross 1x9 set-up, I used Sagmit Concept shifters and Ltwoo A5 rd and I had to customize the shifter housing and install a barrel adjuster coz the rd doesn't have one... but overall, it's a great experience to convert one rather than buying another.

Finally...may sumubok na din. Ive been wanting to try this out and yes at 9 speed road shifters ng shimano also can be cross compatible to MTB RD.10 speed pataas hindi na pwede. As per brakes tama din yug kinabit mo since cable pull ratio ng RD bike shifter will work out fine sa cable actuated hyro brakes. Great content keep it up!

Finally a detailed monstercross build. Been hooked up with monster cross for 2 years and all I can say is this is legit comfortable bike to ride with especially with flared drop bar. Gravel bike is getting more trendy now, Hope I can see more montercross user when they'll see this video as reference. By the way nice set up sir. Just a quick question sir, Does the sagmit cx pro drop bar has smaller size? Wanted to try one.

BR-R517 or BR-R317 have the matching cable pull for recent Shimano road brake levers. The Micronew 2x9 are more robust and follow there own actuation sheme. ST-RS405 with RD-4700 is the hydraulic alternative. Hydraulics do not suffer from the cable pull incompatibilty.
The cable pulls are different for FD 2x and 3x between MTB and Road, and above 9x RD only Road is compatible within 10x/11x.
The FD issue with the shifter is because of the MTB FD. But this FD is made for 50mm chainline. Road FDs are at 43.5mm, then you have to install a road FC which is 30T min. So you see many issues with Road/MTB mix. Going over 40T for the RD with 2x is the next issue. There is no RD with road cable pulls. You have to use cable pull adapters and use a RD-M8000 and ST-R505 to match the rear gear cable pull. FD-RX400 is perfect for 2x but it need a FC-MT210 where you swap the 2.5mm spacers of the bottom bracket to go from 50mm to 47.5mm. The FD-RX400 is for 46.5mm. This is the only 2x11 setup i have seen working for a hydraulic 46/30-11/42 monstercross.
For non-hydraulic i would prefer a 44/32/22-11/36 with 3x9 Micronew but you need a FD cable pull adjuster but none for the rear.

@@CoggieBike I am from germany. Sensah found the niche solution to monstercross builders. The RD was on the market for about 9 month. The RD have 4700/5800 road compatible cable pull, goes above 50T on the rear:
      bikerumor.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/S-Ride-M520-1x11_budget-Chinese-single-ring-11-speed-gravel-bike-drivetrain.jpg
I do not know why it is sold out since 01/2021. For non-hydraulic there are many alternative 10x/11x STi and even 12x which would match to the M520c.

Few things i noticed, since you upgraded your forks to rigid one, you should've used sealed bearings on it. It might be pricey, but it will end up cheaper in the long run
Second, You should not cut the bar tape under the STI cover, it shoud be wrapped underneath it and then cut and tape it on the hood. That way, it would be more durable.
But over all, i like your build. I might upgrade mine like this soon.

Masyadong malayo yng reach. And ok din yng xtech brakes. Nice build and ride safe sir!

Hello... You can do your setup like the way I did in this video... th-cam.com/video/Ul5QaeH8DtU/w-d-xo.html
If you pay attention carefully with this setup, I used straight shimano 105 from STI to RD, FD and Sprocket. The only thing differs is the alivio crankset which is cross compatible with all speeds... Just keep in mind that when you step to 10 speed above, STI's do not work with MTB RDs...
