I grew up in Marumsco Village from 1959 until 2006 and watched Woodbridge slowly become invaded and transform into Hoodbridge. This brought a tear to my eye.
I grew up in State Streets. Now I live in Boston. Stray bullets never happen in that much in Bayvue. Chill out. I remember when that store was called "High's". Corner of featherstone and colchester.
I'm from Philly. But I loved living there back in the 80's.I lived down Featherstone road,Willowbrook, right across from the State Streets. We hung out in the woods behind the store in the woods drinking beer.FUN days.Me,Joe Meador,Wayne McGowan,Trip, brothers,Dave and Rodney and Especially, the Johnson brothers,Mike,Tim,Stacey,Muff, hanging out at Kilroys...Hell,I was assigned to the 29th Light Infantry at Belvoir. The waterslide at Veterans Park...Octopuss Gardens.I remember when Potomac Mills first started getting built.Now.Now I go through it and barely recognize it.Its like little Mexico City now.Good memories-
Loved the drive down Featherstone and Featherstone Shores. My old stomping grounds as a kid. Still recognized it all even though I left in '72. Thanks!
State street girl here too! Corner of Maryland and Illinois by Michigan... took a ride through my hometown a couple years ago and it was horrible... trashed 3rd world country in some places ... broke my heart and made it difficult to explain how this equated to all the wonderful memories of building tree forts ... riding dirt bikes .. playing street games with all of my friends (who are still my friends to this day) to my kids. I lived there from 62 to 79 ... in Stafford now... thank you for the trip down memory lane... very well done my friend. 🤗💜🤗💜🤗💜
Thanks ...... I grew up in Marumsco Woods ..... Went to Featherstone Elementary ..... Rippon Middle cane old and new Gar-Field...... Worked at Featherstone Shell ...... A was at Sunsett Drive-in the night P.W. Cops tear gassed us to get us to leave when the projector broke and they wouldn't give us our money back ....... Thanks again
Went to Lutheran Kiddie Kollege, Belmont Elementary, then Featherstone, Rippon Middle, then New Gar-Field. Lived in Woodbridge 1962-1979. Loved StoryBook Land, and all the special events at Marumsco Plaza like the Easter Egg hunt in the courtyard with the wading pools, the cherry drops from helicopters on George Washington's Birthday, Old Fashioned Bargain Days, when all the stores had sidewalk sales, the Bingo tent was up and the carnival would be in the parking lot. It was a fun town to grow up in, though the military bases meant that friends were always moving away.
I left in 1981 and visited a couple times in the early 80's. I grew up in almost the exact area you show here in the 60's and 70's, A friend and I changed the Marumsco Theater sign from Star Wars to Raw Rats in the middle of the night once. The sign that was in the parking lot. We hung out there sometimes at night after we had drivers licenses. During the Disco Era we all hung out a lot at Dale City Skate Center and Dumfries skating rink. Also Had much fun at the drive in theater, it was popular to take a date there. It looks like a few houses may have been built on swamp land down Featherstone after the tracks. I would start walking from home and my girlfriend would start walking and we would meet up at the 7 eleven at the intersection of rt. 1 and Featherstone. Play some pinball and maybe go get some food at the bowling alley or Shakeys pizza just up from there. Thanks for the video so many memories get touched off.
I use to live in Willowbrook down Featherstone road.14790 Candlewood ct.The state streets just over Featherstone.Went to Potomac High School with the Dents and Pembertons.86 and 87.The Highs store at Blackburn and Featherstone with 7-11across the road.Kilroys bar.The McDonald's.Fuddruckers.Veterans Park.Bayview Apartments.I miss a lot of friends.Mike and Stacy Johnson.Tim Johnson.I remember when they extended Dale Blvd down to Rte1.Octopus Gardens.Chesepeke Bay Seafood House.I had good times living there. My name is Tk.And we used to hang behind the Highs store drinking beer.I remember helping to build the mall.Potomac was next to the DMV and Garfield high school. My buddies Wayne McGowan,Trip,Joe Meader,Dean Darzinski.Brothers Dave And Rodney.Georgetown Village.Charlie Brown's in Lake Ridge Plaza....-This is Tk.Somebody please look me up.Good memories-😊
Oh my GOSH. I've been back there one time since I left in 1982. When you drove past the church at Featherstone and Alabama you could almost see the back of my old house. Talk about a blast from the past!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I went to storybook land around 1960, my wife and I bought our first house on Michigan rd. In marumsco woods in 1985 and I worked at the vepco building. Woodbridge has sure changed but have a lot of great memories. Thanks for sharing your video.
You should have cut down at 17 mins in and went by the water to get the view, there is also a nice view back near the fields if you take a right before you enter that last section. Nice video.
Does anybody remember Hillbilly Heaven?-I was assigned to Ft.Belvoir.We use to go party at the CLub on Quantico.Dumfries,Triangle.Williamstown.NOW.EVERYTHING'S ALL MEXICAN-ALL OF WOODBRIDGE...DAMN---!!!-
Grew up in dale city I lived there from 87-08 . The area started getting over populated with traffic, people etc... the problem with that area everything is built on top of each other nothing is really spaced out. Friends that still live in the area say they had widened the prince William parkway to 3 lanes now! Looking at this I see more and more development which means more and more traffic. Even though it's my home I grew up there i really dont miss it. It's not the same anymore. Sometimes change is good, Sometimes change is bad, But change is always enviable :/
Chesterfield girl here. I had completely forgot about storybook land. Went on school trip there in kindergarten circa 70 or 71. Bought a Pochahauntus doll with twin babies. Lol. Gave doll to my oldest neice and she gave it to her daughter. Need to tell them to find out if. It's worth anything. The great neice is adult now.
Wow. Woodbridge looks nice and peaceful. I have no idea why the hell my friend is telling me that Woodbridge is a bad area... he grew up there all his life, and says that it's a ghetto area. The fuck? Come to southeast DC and you'll know what ghetto is. It looks so clean and peaceful. According to my friend that grew up in Woodbridge, he also said that it used to more rural, but now it's becoming more urban and developing into a more like a metropolitan city now.
great video. what happened to the old good times. do you have more pictures of Woodbridge. who are you??? I believe that grew up on the same time. good old days days
Lived in military housing back in 93-96. Worst place we ever lived during our time in the military. Went back recently driving thru to somewhere else and looked like a bomb exploded.

We used to get our weed from a guy at Bayvue Apts in the late 80's. It was sketchy back then too. Good times.
It is my understanding that the old Drive in was at the intersection just before the Nissan dealer....
Excellent Music
Mike Ervin it was....my “gps” (memory LOL) was a little messed up

I went to The Storybook Land location last year 2018. Everything is gone! All I saw was bricks, concrete foundations and some stairs. Nothing else
